EARLY ACCESS Friends S2 EP1&2

NEW SEASON LETS GAURRR!!!!

EARLY ACCESS Friends S2 EP1&2

Comments

Just saw your reply, I hate how I don't get notified when someone replies to me on a comment that isn't mine. But yeah, I understand what you're saying and you're right, there IS a difference. Regardless, Friends was really ahead of their time for even addresing this issue, because even today it's still very taboo.

Thanks for the comment and your take. I think that being uncomfortable and complaining are two separate issues when it comes to breastfeeding. Like in the episode, Chandler and Joey felt weird but they did not complain or tell her to cover herself. That's how it goes for me as well, I've got nothing against it and I don't even consider it sexual at all. But that doesn't take away the fear from my head that I'm being judged by women for looking, as if they were thinking "Wtf is that guy looking at? Creep." And this thought, plus some other minor stuff is what creates the discomfort.

Rachel is hilarious in these episodes, particularly the first one 🤣 It's funny to have the roles reversed and have Rachel being jealous. But I do agree, aside from being confused and surprised at first, she didn't really have a right to be so upset by it, even to the point of sleeping with Paolo AND bringing him back to the apartment. Especially since she said they were at HIS apartment, so even if she was distraught enough to sleep with him after what he did to Phoebe, there's no reason why they couldn't just stay there. I do like how, as you said, she still valued Monica's friendship more than a potential relationship with Ross, and at least APPEARED to give Julie a chance. If anything, Friends was ahead of its time by even showing "public" breastfeeding. In spite of its problems, it broke barriers in MANY of the topics on a show that was on the air in the 90's and 00's. This is a topic that is still very controversial today. Honestly I think it's because the VAST majority think of breasts as PURELY sexual, when that's not their initial purpose. Even when women cover up as much as they can, people still complain. Essentially, women can expose their breasts as much as they want AS LONG as there's no nipple showing (particularly on Instagram). But movements like "Free the nipple" (which I wasn't even a fan of at first because "breasts always have and always will be sexual") are saying that women's nipples shouldn't be censored any more than men's nipples, and they SHOULDN'T be looked at as PURELY sexual. I also just find it hilarious how people have such a problem with drinking human milk meant for babies but have no problem with drinking cow's milk meant for calves. Lastly, if you don't know, the reason Phoebe tasted the breast milk to begin with is because people usually do that to make sure it isn't too hot for the baby. I think the show definitely gets better and better and that is due to a combination of things. It was super popular and at its peak at this point (maybe the most from S2-6), plus there was bigger budget, better writing/acting as well as their chemistry was better and they were definitely feeling their characters more. The last couple of seasons are maybe not as good but still good imo. Fun facts: The Q-tip line, which is Matthew Perry's favourite Chandler line, was improvised. Also, Lauren Tom who played Julie, pitched the joke where Rachel says "Welcome to our country!" slowly and loudly, and Julie replies "Thank you, I'm from New York!" This was based on her own experience where people would approach her and react in a similar manner, believing she was a Chinese immigrant. Notice the 'reserved' sign at the table where they always sit at Central Perk, particularly in E1? It's the first time but not the last time it is seen. People have been wondering how the couch was always conveniently available for them and someone noticed the sign in various scenes throughout the series. Ross: "I like it. I think it’s a 10" - 10 is the name of a movie Dudley Moore was in. Chandler: “You could get caught in moon in New York City. I know it’s crazy but it’s true" - Part of the lyrics to Arthur’s Theme, the soundtrack of Dudley Moore’s movie Arthur. It won for Best Original Song at the Oscars 1982. The name Demi can be pronounced in two different ways: De-MEE as in Demi Moore or DEH-me as in Demi Lovato (in the case of the latter it's short for Demetria). Speaking of Demi Moore AND Andie MacDowell, Demi and Andie's daughter Margaret Qualley recently starred together in the body horror movie The Substance, which is not for the faint of heart but I absolutely recommend. It's a great commentary on aging in Hollywood, particularly for women, as well as being an allegory for addiction/eating disorders.

I appreciate and respect your take on the breastfeeding, but honestly I think it's just because the VAST majority think of breasts as PURELY sexual, when that's not their initial purpose.

I agree with the other commentators, I have seem women go from 0 to 100 when a guy becomes unavailable. Sometimes it comes as a shock from certain people, like "where did that come from?". But I am not surprised at all Rachel is so hooked on Ross now that he has a gf, I've seen that happen plenty. As for breastfeeding, I think I speak for myself and some others I know, but it's not the breastfeeding that is uncomfortable per se, it's because of what is visible and you feel like it's rude to look there. It's kind of like when women in our eyesight are bending over or at the gym -> it suddenly becomes an area you now actively need to avoid looking at if you don't want to seem rude or creepy. So it just feels uncomfortable.

one thing I learnt very early on is that women want what they cant have. When I got my first girlfriend at 18 after years of very little attention from girls, all of a sudden every girl wanted to talk to me and some even tried to convince me to cheat, they then want you even more when you refuse them. Ive also seen this many times over the last 10 years since with other couples and with other relationships i have had. Essentially what i am trying to say is I am not at all surprised that Rachel wants Ross so much now that he has a woman and she cant be with him.
