Omg what a cool Easter egg!! I low key love that shirt so much ahahah might see if I can find it online

IcedQuokka

The funny thing about Pheobe's outfit (shirt) in the football episode, is she's wearing a That Girl shirt with a face on it. That Girl was a 1960's comedy show, staring Marlo Thomas, who plays Rachel's mom. That's her likeness on the shirt. She had that hairstyle in the show.

Wendy

nooooo thats not sad !! thats cuteee!! ❀ i do that as well at christmas time, i watch all my fav christmas themed tv show episodes it makes me feel so happy and safe and cozy ❀

IcedQuokka

Ok, this might make me sound sad, but every Thanksgiving I watch the football episode during halftime of the early game ...

Christian Schoen

If you do open that P.O. box get ready for a lot of Friends merchandise and American pop culture merchandise lol

dieselbeast

Haha πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ its ok we can still be FRIENDS! 😊 don't worry there's plenty of more episodes that im sure will tickle your fancy lol wait thats an English saying lol idk any new zealand/Australian slang πŸ˜³πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚

dieselbeast

Aww that’s lovely!! Yeah I think I’m just not a fan of sports that much πŸ₯²πŸ₯²

IcedQuokka

its interesting because I'm an American I absolutely loved this Thanksgiving Football episode its actually my number One favorite episode from friends, the first time I saw this I laughed the hardest and longest! I guess because I understand American football and maybe that's what deterred you

dieselbeast

I love doing that with shows! I do it with every tv show I watch ahaha it always makes me enjoy it more πŸ₯° I’m glad you’re the same!! 🀍

IcedQuokka

I'm finally caught up and I am loving these reactions and how seriously you take the characters and break stuff down. I love when people get so into a show they start to analyze it like they're real people.

Chris

omg so true!! we really got to see both sides of ross in that episode, I wonder why the writers chose to showcase it like that actually! thanks for all the info!! so cool about matthew perry being a ranked tennis player ahaha never would have guessed!

IcedQuokka

oooo i kinda get what you mean actually!! thats still so strange tho ahahaha ill pass on the explanation tho sorry πŸ˜‚ sports really do bore me ahahah

IcedQuokka

I don't know shit about American football either (or sports in general) but E9 is one of my favourite episodes and it's usually regarded one of the best episodes of the entire series. The setting is so fun and it's peak comedy. I agree, quitting without having another job lined up was bad advice. I love Joey and Chandler but they don't give the best advice πŸ˜‚ Also, it's interesting how we got both the best and worst of Ross in this episode. What he did to Monica wasn't cool but what he did for the girl was so sweet. Fun facts: The uncut DVD version of the football episode has a different ending. Monica and Ross decide to toss the Geller Cup down the garbage chute. Phoebe is at the bottom getting it for Monica, but as she's about to leave, Ross walks in to take it for himself. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/IbxnWYDPvHs. Also, a little dramatic but fun story is that Susanna Midnight/Voltaire, the actress who plays Margha aka the dutch woman, was actually American but the crew did not know because she spoke with an accent for the audition. When they found out they were shocked. The character's accent is clearly not Dutch, it's more a kind of Russian accent. The park that they play football in was not filmed outside in a real park. It was actually a specially designed set in a soundstage across from where the regular episodes were filmed. The t-shirt Phoebe wears is a That GirlΒ t-shirt, a show which starred Marlo Thomas who plays Rachel's mum. The two children on the swings areΒ Marta Kauffman's children, one of the co-creators/writers The Brown Birds girl is played by Mae Whitman who's been in movies such as Independence Day, One Fine Day, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Duff and a TV show called Parenthood. She's also voiced a lot of characters in animations and video games, most notably as Katara in the anime Avatar: The Last Airbender. The actress who plays the woman in charge of The Brown Birds is Romy Rosemont who played Finn's mum on Glee (which I know you've seen). When Chandler tells Joey to "Run Joey, Run!" it is a reference to the song of the same name by David Geddes. Matthew Perry was actually a nationally ranked tennis player in Canada at the age of 13. And yes, his weight loss is very evident here due to prescription drug abuse. His weight fluctuated quite a bit throughout the course of the show. He said that when he was doing drugs he lost weight and when he was drinking he gained weight. There is also a period (between S3-6 or so) where he legimately didn't remember anything from filming.

I'm Brazilian, I was late for work when I commented. And I used Google Translate as a quick way to express my opinion. Obviously I know the difference between American football and soccer. I didn't understand the fuss, it's a very irrelevant mistake, I think you understood what I meant there. It's really not a big deal. πŸ˜‚

I think the thanksgiving football episode is one of the highest rated of season 3. To use a videogame comparison, american football is like a turn-based RPG, where regular football (soccer) is like a real-time RPG. In american football you arrange all your players in certain positions then execute a play. Everything then stops and again you decide on the positions of players for the next play. I could write 20 paragraphs explaining american football, which I'm sure would not bore you at all, but I will refrain. I live in Alabama, and football is a religion here.

Negative

I am Irish so I understand what soccer and football are. I was pointing out the mistake that American football is not soccer in the slightest

Sean Carroll

lolllll ive heard the ad breaks in the superbowl are crazy long ahahahah

IcedQuokka

@seancarroll soccer is called football in most non english speaking countries might just be a translation mistake

IcedQuokka

yessss i loveeee the rivalry !!! its so entertaining ahahaha they are the best sibling duo ❀ and thank you!! ❀

IcedQuokka

I wouldn’t say that understanding the rules of American football is important in relation to enjoying the episode. Personally the football episode is a classic episode Basically a team has to get the ball across the field and the player holding the ball has to get across the line at the far end resulting in a touchdown (6 points) I don’t watch it either as it’s such a boring and slow sport with way too many ad breaks

Sean Carroll

Soccer???? Bruh what

Sean Carroll

I was very grateful for the notification and happy that you are recovering well. The Thanksgiving episode where they have the soccer game is one of my favorites, it has this idea of taking place in one or two settings and continuity, in addition to being an external scene, which is always fun. I love the Gueller rivalry, it is very clear why they are a priceless duo, I love their dynamic, as well as the teasing about Rachel's lack of skill, and Phoebe's innocence. ☺️

Beatriz Rodrigues

completely agree!!!!

IcedQuokka

love phoebe hahaha also yeah he looked really thin but i didnt wanna point it out :'(

IcedQuokka

Exactly. It’s always better to look for your dream job while you still have your current job.

Also! The Fear does not work. Because you have no money come in, and you start getting desperate and need a job quick, so you start applying and taking any job you can find. Which is then against the point of The Fear which is to make you pursue your dream career. IMO You need financial security first then you can be picky about your job and start applying for stuff you like.

I love how Phoebe heads into everything with such joy and enthusiasm. Like out of all of them she seemed like the one who had the most genuine fun playing football and just loved doing it, everyone else was arguing. She just approaches everything with such joy, even the Christmas stuff. Also I always kinda find these episodes uncomfortable due to Matthew Perry's visible weight loss as this was his peak of his pill addiction.

Calum

yeah he got so tight on the rules ahahaha he reminds me of my brother a lot πŸ˜‚

IcedQuokka

The Thanksgiving episode with the football game is classic. You get to see the sibling rivalry between Ross and Monica really well. I love the story of how they aren’t allowed to play. And I love how Ross is so rules lawyerly when it comes to why he’s losing.
