Rachel said he wanted to get out on a technicality and she's right. His tagline is we were on a break. No acknowledgment of what he did or his asinine behavior beforehand. I agree with you in that they're whole relationship is him not listening to her. Ross just wants Rachel to revolve around him like a planet around the sun. And the fact that Joey and Chandler were so okay with hiding this from Rachel, just shows how much they value her friendship.

Ross needed to let her be excited and throw herself into it for a little bit. He couldn’t let himself be supportive because of his insecurities. I understand Ross too. I don’t blame him for feeling the way he felt. They were both not getting what they needed from each other at this time. As far as the “break” goes, I agree with Rachel here. I don’t care if you thought the relationship was over. The fact that they hadn’t clarified the relationship status and he went and slept with someone else immediately that same night…. I definitely would not get back together with someone who did that. I know that Ross saw it as a breakup. Yes, if someone says they want to take a break it almost always means they want out of the relationship. So, I get that Ross saw it as a breakup. I can also see how Rachel saw it as him being unfaithful and disrespectful to her as well though. Honestly, I would feel the same way. There was no clear communication. Rachel should have sent Mark away as soon as he showed up. They are both at fault in different ways. But Ross crossed a line that you can’t come back from at that point, imo.
