yeah, absolutely! I think a healthy balance of both being able to remove yourself from the Fandom Perspective as well as a respect for that perspective (because we've all had it once) is critical. self awareness is good on all sides

2021-04-27 09:27:09 +0000 UTCThe talk about being unable to connect with ~the young folk~ and having certain media's relatability slipping through the fingers was great. Its great hearing people have self awareness about this because its a little disquieting how many people in their 30s insert themselves in fandoms without really knowing their place and elevated power level over the target audience. I'm approaching my mid 20s so I'm pretty much in the middle between both parties so I see both arguments, but it is weirdchamp when adults insist on claiming media that is not made for them in mind. It's like, pop open a soda? Watch something else? Find another fandom space? Much to think about
