0126 - Rod Flanders

We covered Todd Flanders back in October, 6 episodes ago. One thing I noted was how it's difficult to tell the two brothers apart, and sure enough, I have already written the wrong name twice and corrected myself in this opening paragraph.

Anyhoo his first appearance is small, at the very start of this episode:

With that out of the way, let's get to why you're here: pointless nitpicking!

In "Dead Putting Society", it is stated that Todd (the youngest Flanders kid) is 10 years old (by a commentator at the mini-golf tournament.) When Lisa tells the Flanders boys a story in "My Sister, My Sitter", it is implied that Rod is "two-space years older" than Todd,. Let us assume that space-years are the same length as regular years (you'll have to ignore everything you know about the theory of relativity and time dilation for this, I hope that's okay), and that Rod is 12.

But in "Bart Sells His Soul", the Flanders family go out to celebrate Rod's birthday, and we make a startling discovery:

That's right, dear reader: Rod is turning ONE HUNDRED.

So which is it? 12 or 100? I will accept no other options.

Footnote: I actually got the brother's ages wildly wrong for an "Eye on Springfield" piece last year. Or, they're entirely accurate. It's hard to tell:

Either way, I hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Ned doesn’t want either child to feel left out so he says both of them are 100 years old.
