Lady Chasmatus is the largest volcano in the known world. For thousands of years, she lay modestly dormant, a sleeping giant, towering over the fertile Dwarven plain. In her slumber, the benevolent mother lent unfathomable geothermal potential to clever Dwarven engineers and their fruitful innovations. These ambitious Dwarves took full advantage, constructing, what many believed to be, the greatest city in the world. The city of Lady Chasmatus was a perfect marriage of lavishness and efficiency. It consisted of countless levels of formidable dwellings outfitted with electricity, running water, and sophisticated sewage systems. The city flowed with an unprecedented smoothness on the back of advanced infrastructure.

The Eruption of Lady Chasmatus is the second most catastrophic loss of life event in recorded history, second only to The Fold itself. It brought a sudden and absolute end to the War of Silver Brittle, shattering the Dwarven Empire in the process. It is assumed that the entire population of the Dwarven capital, roughly 500,000, died instantly. Among them were the vast majority of high Dwarven nobility, as many of the hold lords from across the Empire retreated to the Dwarven capital for safety during the War of Silver Brittle.

This catastrophic eruption is not the first in the volcano’s history. In fact, the Dwarves claim to have been created during one such eruption. Over the years the Dwarves had been fostering machinery to control the severity of Chasmatus’s rumblings, using the released power to bolster their city power and to strategically plot the surrounding land to benefit from fertile plots for generations to come. The volcano was revered, never feared, by the Dwarves before the War of Silver Brittle. Nobody knows why this particular eruption was so destructive and unmitigated by Dwarven preparations, although some theories do persist…

Jeronia’s Bounty conducted waves of rescue missions to liberate stranded Dwarves after the eruption. The elves, perhaps the only beings with the physiological gifts to traverse the Waste unperturbed, rested smugly in their shrouded woods, attributing the eruption to the Dwarves’ own betrayal. To this day, Ulanduian II rules over Myhhr and stubbornly refuses to aid the reeling Dwarven people, generations removed from those who wronged the Elves...
