I found out an old high school friend is dating a sex offender. His crime? When he was 22-23, he attempted to solicit sex from a 13-14 year old. In the report it states he tried to pay her for sex, taking it a step up from just asking which imo shows a whole level of desperation and messed up-ness. I asked her about it because I wasn’t sure if she knew or not (he goes by a fake name on EVERYTHING). She let me know that she’s “aware of his past” and that she’s okay “with a stupid mistake that happened years ago”. He’s 29-30 now but it still rubs me the wrong way because it just sounds like she’s coping with it by saying it was a mistake. A mistake I’d never commit (and most wouldn’t) at my now 22 year old age.

I dated someone online at age 16 - he was 18 and autistic. He never did anything predatory to me or others, but 3 years in I learned he was into shota porn and that's when it hit the fan. He would send it to me, try to get me to roleplay sexual scenarios involving children with me, and would say that because it's fictional and not real kids it was okay. For the longest time I tried to overlook it since he wasn't going after real children, but I just couldn't. I broke up with him and haven't spoken to him since. It was definitely devastating and hard to deal with, but honestly? I'm so glad I distanced myself from him. I was 18 when this happened so he technically didn't send me anything when I was a minor, but that still doesn't change the fact it was sick. It's better to stay away from people like this, no matter how hard it is. The age gap caused so many problems and since it was my first relationship, it's left me with "trauma" and fears that have carried on and affected my current relationship and other aspects of my life.

It's pretty scary not knowing if the person you're dating is a predator or serial killer huh? But if we lived our lives guarded all the time then we would never meet anyone. Trust me I know.... I had extremely bad anxiety/agoraphobia and social anxiety I shut myself off from the world and stayed in my room all the time. Also why don't you want a future girlfriend to know you from YouTube? It's part of who you are but it's not the only part of what makes you yourself. Oh and it helps to not always overthink ya know? And a date at McDonald's or taco bell is fine lol I had a guy spend atleast 100 on two movies the first date (and only date) he spent the whole time trying to get me to make out with him.
