One more thing, nothing was off camera, Elijah literally SAID to Elena that the witches found a way to spare the doppleganger’s life (Katherine then) so the sacrifice would still go on but Katherine wouldn’t die, it’s just that Klaus didn’t care and still wanted her to die anyways even if it wasn’t necessary, what Elena is saying now is that THIS TIME, unlike what kalis wanted to do in the past, they WILL use whatever solution the witches had figured out before , they will go by with the sacrifice but Elena will not die. The sacrifice HAS the happen, because as they said before, it’s the ONLY possible way to kill Klaus, because he will physically be WEAK, and then, a witch with enough power (Bonnie) can just take him.

Yes, vampires are truly cursed by the sun (they burn), and werewolves are truly cursed by the moon (they are forced to turn and suffer). What is unbreakable is the curse itself. What was made up is the possibility of breaking it. So why did they make vampires and werewolves believe that the Sun and Moon Curse could be broken? So that every vampire and werewolf on the planet would try to break it. And in order to break it, they would search for what was supposedly required: a doppelgänger and a moonstone. Why do this? Because Klaus had always needed the doppelgänger to break his own curse. But how would he know when a doppelgänger appeared? He invented a false hope for all species, making them believe they could break their Sun or Moon curse. That way, vampires and werewolves would actively look for the moonstone and the doppelgänger themselves. And once they did… Klaus would simply show up and take them.
