To be fair, he was usually the one to antagonize them first …

A better term instead of soul would be life force. John gave up his life force for Elena so that she stays human, and therefore nature is balanced out.

Also, great plan Jenna but poor execution. Should've snapped her neck the same way Klaus did Stefan.

Their memory issues are crazy.
"Why would Elijah care?" Because the potion was for Katherine NOT Elena. He loved Katherine and found a way to save her 500 years ago but she killed herself before hand.

Damon is usually right about traitors. Mason , Elijah .

There’s something I want to talk about, remember at the beginning of this season I told you that don’t underestimate Damon’s intuition and his ability to read people emotionally and sense their intentions when I told you about Mason.
Here in this episode we saw it clearly that how Damon’s intuition should not be ignored. Damon was the only character that remained skeptical about Elijah until the very end and he was right, Elijah ended up betraying them, so Damon was right not to trust Elijah from the beginning.
We can start seeing the pattern now that every time they don’t listen to Damon, they end up paying a huge price for it. Had they listened to Damon and let Bonnie sacrifice herself, they would’ve avoided so many casualties. It might sound twisted but it was the best logical option that would’ve had the best outcome. It’s ironic everyone would look at Damon as a heartless and uncaring person when he suggested this ideas but in reality, Damon’s method would’ve saved more people. Every one else was so focused on saving Bonnie’s life that they kinda forgot the other people they would put in danger by just letting sacrifice happen because that means that a vampire and a werewolf still have to die.
Bonnie’s sacrifice is different from Elena’s in this episode because Bonnie actually has the power to end everything and solve the problem once and for all. But Elena’s willingness to sacrifice herself comes more from the place of her depression and her survival guilt, in her mind if anyone has to die it should be her because she doesn’t want any body else to die for her but in reality her death wouldn’t have solved anything or saved anyone in fact she letting herself be sacrificed means the ritual will happen and that means more people have to die. But I don’t blame her just like I said her sense of judgment has been clouded by her mental illness and it’s not her who’s making a decision and it’s her survival guilt that calling the shots for her. This is what Damon understood about her but other characters didn’t.
We have to remember, no one was forcing Bonnie to sacrifice herself, it was her choice, she knew that she had the power and the only one who can put an end to this. Bonnie sacrifice would be actually heroic because she was gonna be able to save many people. She would’ve made actual difference and would’ve solved the problem once and for all. Had they let Bonnie kill Klaus before letting him start the ritual, Jenna would’ve been still alive, Damon didn’t have to force feed his blood to Elena out of desperation and John wouldn’t have had to die as well.
Bonnie might’ve died challening all that power and it was gonna be tragic to say goodbye to her but that would be an honourable death and she would’ve ended her character arc on high notes and at least they didn’t have to deal with such huge loss, for Elena to be sacrificed and had to be resurrected back to life and for her and Jeremy to lose their only adult figure and family members.
“We have a witch, she can kill Klaus, no one has to die”
“Except for Bonnie”
One person is still less than 3 people and also all the other people who potentially are gonna die at the hands of Klaus who’s now broken the curse and basically became unstoppable.
Thy didn’t listen to Damon and forgot about all the people they would potentially put in danger and they didn’t pay attention to Damon’s warning about Elijah and put their faith in him and actually counting on him to be able to kill his own brother when Damon knew better that he couldn’t be trusted and now they’re paying the price.
Damon’s wisdom comes from experiences and place of sorrow and pain, he knows that sometimes you have to make some difficult decisions that might not be pleasant for everyone to make but it will spare them huge pain and suffering in the future. Damon is the voice of truth and action in the show and that’s why he remains a “bad guy” in every one else’s eyes because not everyone is ready to face the brutal truth and liberate themselves.

once again damon was right why would yall trust ELIJAH, like thats his brother. stefan again being gullible and trusting. stefan literally always prioritize elena feelings/choices over her safety. Like ur a vampire you suppose to be protecting her and your not doing it right.

Y'all don't listen to the characters sometimes, When someone is a vampire, they lose their soul, John gave his life for his daughter Elena, like the mother did for her baby in the story he was explaining, doing that kept Elena's soul intact, hence she didn't become a vampire. Please try to listen to what they say, also don't wait too long to watch the next episodes cause y'all be forgetting everything. Can't wait for y'all to see season 3!
