Weekly Roundup 34 - 23/10/20 - Prisoner Encounters

Hi everyone. :D

It's been a very productive week over here and I've got some solid progress to show you all on prototyping Prisoner Encounters through video and gifs! So lets get into it!

1: Gameplay Video

There's a full 1 minute long video which showcases the Full Prisoner Encounter. Give it a watch from start to end to get a feel of how these encounters play out!

2: This Weeks Progress

So this week was focused on doing the art and prototyping for a full flow of a prisoner encounter. And I gotta admit I think it came together really nicely!

Each prisoner encounter the player interacts with has a flow of:

Some captured gifs off the main video includes:

Starting the 2nd Puzzle:

Solving the 2nd Puzzle and the Prisoner is free:

While the current example is simple in that there's only two puzzles and at the moment no failure states. This format and flow that I've prototyped can grow in complexity to allow for Prisoner Encounters and situations ranging from the simple to the complex.

So, in terms of realizing the potential of it. I think the prototype is accomplishing its goal!

What do you think? ^^

3: What's Next?

For the final week of October we'll be going back to Ticklish Tessa with the primary goal of working on Audio. Sound effects in particular.

The VO hasn't come in yet but I have requested it a few times now. I'm a little bit miffed at the VO situation. I believe the VA will deliver, but communication from them has been poor and they've taken their sweet time with it.

I think moving forward I'll need to vet VA's via those they previously worked with.

Cheers!

Comments

I really like the prisoner setup. The fact that there isn't a time pressure, like during combat makes perfect sense (since it isn't, you know, YOU getting teased). I also love that the teasing gets more intense after the first, 'rewarding' the player for finishing the first puzzle. Otherwise the temptation to simply leave her there for a bit is very, very high. XD Good stuff!

With the situation with the VA, without knowing everything. Either something happened on their end, life or technical. Or As crappy as it sounds, they bailed. If all your doing is the sound and final polishing/bug fixes. Then all things considered, you can go as is with what you have. Otherwise, send the VA an ultimatum about the lack of contact. If there is no response, look for and hire a new VA. You have to find VA(s) for the new game anyway, might as well start “head hunting”.
