Great reaction to a heavy movie.
I remember the boxing day tsunami very, very well. I’m Swedish, and many Swedes go to Thailand over Christmas. If I recall correctly Sweden was one of the countries that lost the most citizens out of the countries that weren’t directly hit by the tsunami. I know people who were there. I’ve heard so many stories of what people went through. It may be weird, but I find myself even more affected by this film because Lucas helps reunite the Swedish man with his son, and the boy Lucas and Maria save, Daniel, appears to be Swedish as well (when Lucas sees him with his father later in the film it sounded like the man was saying ”how heavy you are!” in Swedish). It makes me remember the stories I’ve been told.
I agree with you that Tom Holland gave an amazing performance in this film. The father was played by Ewan McGregor (”Trainspotting”, ”Moulin Rouge”, not to mention mr. Obi Wan Kenobi). He’s an amazing actor as well, and that scene where he calls his father-in-law and breaks down is phenomenally performed. Naomi Watts was brilliant as well, and I cannot comprehend that she didn’t win the Oscar that year (I like JLaw, but she wasn’t as good IMHO). Just incredible acting across the board, and I honestly can’t figure out how they shot all the tsunami scenes. Especially with Holland, as he was a child.
I understand not wanting to watch this film again, but I’m glad you saw it once.
