Over the years I've done a lot of shoots where I cover my models in something, be that paint, powder or clay. It's a lot of fun to do but I'm yet to find an affordable studio to hire that has a shower for the poor models to clean up.
I haven't been in a studio for about 9 months now and I'm itching to get back to it. A couple of tentative plans have fallen through recently but I know we'll get there soon.
Something that annoys me, and I'm very guilty of it myself at times, is doing something for the sake of it. Sure I have a model willing to be painted but what's the context? There is something really frustrating to me when something like bodypaint, with the possibility to look so amazing, is done without any plan.
There are a few shoots I look back on and think I really should have planned that or tested it more. Leaving room for "happy accidents" is always great. Some of my favourite shots were a bit of an experiment and no matter how much you plan, there is an element of luck that goes into a photo shoot.
