I honestly can't remember how I started chatting to Steven. It was likely through Instagram but it would be an assumption at this point. We made the decision to head in to the national park south of Sydney to a spot I'd been to with my nudie mates. It is a beautiful spot that is very tucked away and we were almost certain to be undisturbed which is a great thing when you are doing a nude shoot. It would have been perfect, if I could remember how to get there.
I definitely had us on the right track but I couldn't figure out how to get to the spot I'd been with my friends and I was feeling really foolish dragging this poor guy through the Australian bush backtracking trying to find the right spot.
Eventually, we found another spot on the same creek but further up stream that was going to work. In fact it probably worked better than where I had been thinking.
Five and a half years ago when this happened I wasn't so great at confirming with the model beforehand what they were comfortable with so it was quite the pleasant surprise when Steven had no qualms at all about shooting full frontal content.
Because of the harsh lighting, different angles can mean very different results in terms of colour so I decided in the edit to capitalise on Steven's timeless boy next door vibes and go for black and white. It almost feels like one of those vintage shoots you see of navy men stripping off in their downtime.
Thankfully Steven was a great sport about the adventure walking through the bush and we even took advantage of the really beautiful weather that day and sat nude eating lunch and relaxing in the water after we finished the photo shoot.
