Continuing my recent trend of telling stories about shoots that didn't make it to downloads, I thought I'd see what else I could talk about and I stumbled across this shoot of a Melbourne boy called Andrew.
Andrew had come up from Melbourne and we had planned a shoot. I was at the time and am still now, very grateful that people are keen to take time out of their time off to shoot with me. At the time I was working at a job where I had the use of the studio on weekends, thanks to the generosity of my boss.
For this shoot I had a couple of ideas that I wanted to play with. Firstly, instead of my more common use of fabric I had bought some very metallic and completely opaque fabric and had the idea of a fan blowing it from behind so that it wrapped around Andrew. It was a very cool effect and I'm thrilled with how it turned out. What I'm not thrilled about is the fact I didn't experiment with that fabric more.
Then we moved on to what I think was my first experiment with coloured powder. As you can see I went with a VERY vivid red. We had a mid grey backdrop and for the clapping powder-explosion photos a black backdrop would have been more effective, as would a lot more powder. There are some things you'll just never know how they will work out. Trial and error is a lot of fun though.
I did do another shoot with Andrew a month later that also never made a download. Maybe I can do one of all the looks together?
