The Curiosity of Edward Pratt (Short Film)

Synopsis:

‘The Curiosity of Edward Pratt’ is a character study. It poses the question: "What drives Edward Pratt?". Like many adventurers, Ed has a yearning to circumnavigate the globe but - unlike anyone else - he did it on a unicycle. This short doc attempts to frame why.

A little bit of context:

Back in 2019 I spent a few days with Thomas Sandler shooting a short film about my world unicycle tour. Originally meeting in the ‘Funky Monkey’ hostel in Vientiane, Laos, he contacted me 2 years later, explaining that he’s like to produce a short documentary on my ride for his 2nd Year university project. This documentary would later be dubbed ‘The Curiosity of Edward Pratt’.

Since the film’s completion in 2020 it was clear that ‘The Curiosity of Edward Pratt’ had much more potential than to be viewed once by a couple of dusty examiners in an equally dusty back room in York University, so Tommy took the doc and entered it into many film festivals across the country and around the world - quite fitting really!

During its run, it screened at over 35 festivals including the Academy Award qualifying ‘Leuven International Short Film Festival’ and the 40th ‘Kendal Mountain Film Festival’. It was nominated for national level awards and it won two ‘Yorkshire Royal Television Society Student Awards’. Pretty damn good going I’d say!

Over the last couple of years Tommy has been reluctant to release the film online, because this affects its eligibility of being entered into certain festivals. But now, with the festival run over, ‘The Curiosity of Edward Pratt’ can finally be released to the world, and Tommy has been kind enough to let me be the one to do so. So sit back, relax and experience my unicycle ride in a way you’ve never seen it before!

It would've indeed ;)

Yeah, Tommy did a really professional job with it all. I certainly didn't envy the task he had to sift through all of my footage.

Hi Steve, apologies for just now getting around to answering this. Absolutely, you don't need ask. chat away!

Ed Pratt

Cheers Willie! Many hours of Georgian tandem vids are in the works, but it's expect them to still take another month or so to finalise

Ed Pratt

Thank you Warren. I've been sitting on this one for a long old time. It's been lovely to finally share it

Ed Pratt

Hi Neal, the amount of support you've given me over the years has been immense and I'd hate for you feel any guilt whatsoever for leaving. Look after yourself over there, Ed

Ed Pratt

This past month here in the U.S. has been tough with inflation and rising gas prices. I struggled yesterday with deciding whether or not to cut all of my paid support here on Patreon. I held off, got my monthly Patreon receipt just now so we’re still good. I didn’t want to quietly withdraw my support without forewarning. I hope things improve within the next month and I can still continue my support.

Totally delightful film. Thank goodness I’m none the wiser as the way you did it! That would’ve spoilt half the fun.

That was so good! Loved all the interviews, and the "special effects"! Really imaginative, and sums up all the nuttiness quite nicely.

Great film, well done Thomas for capturing the essence of your original trip so brilliantly 😄. Ed, on a similar theme, I have a proposal to discuss your trip on a podcast I have been invited on. I wanted your okay. Is there a way we can chat about that? Cheers, Steve

Steve Pratt

Excellent . . . I have been eagerly awaiting some new video

Willie
