Chapter 6, checking the wound — Ash's POV

“Why are you here then?”
Ashmedai stares at the wall in silence. Their heart beats slowly and loudly, as if counting down the seconds until their death. Their mouth turns dry.
“Well…” they murmur, unsure what they intended to say. Their head is empty. They don’t think—only feel. And all they feel is biting dread and an ache in their chest. Are they sick, perhaps? It would explain their state. The dizziness. The confusion.
But they can’t lie even to themselves. Ashmedai knows what they’re sick with, and it’s not a simple illness.
