Hearing Vex’s reassurance, George nodded, relieved.

He furrowed his brow, staring intently at Gwen.

He had sensed something was off earlier, and now he realized she had already...

He cast a deep, complicated look at Vex.

The daughter he had raised for 18 years was now in the hands of another man—an alien man, no less!

He didn’t know how to process it.

With a sigh,

George stood up and headed for the door.

"I’ll head back to the station. Tonight... I might not come home."

Gwen looked up sharply!

But all she saw was the door closing behind him.

"Did my dad figure it out?" Gwen asked nervously. "I’m in trouble! He’s going to yell at me, isn’t he? I..."

Vex pulled Gwen into his arms, gently stroking her hair.

"Your dad already said he won’t be back tonight."

"That means he knows, but he’s allowing it to happen."

"You’re an adult now, and you’re going to be a future superhero. Your dad can’t control you anymore."

Gwen blinked and looked up at Vex.

"So... does that mean..."

"We can do whatever we want tonight?"
