Site Intro: Details of Time Team's next dig!
Added 2023-09-13 12:56:43 +0000 UTC
It's almost time to get started on our next 3-day dig. Over the following weekend, we're thrilled to announce we'll be investigating... (drum roll, please)
...an Iron Age complex in Dorset. And what an incredible site it is!
We've used the term 'complex' here, as there's a range of different activities apparently going on at the site across different phases, hinting at life, work and death. A key task over the three days will be to unpick these elements and how each relates to the other.
It's a beautiful part of the world, and an area that some of our team know very well. Recently, Hilde caught up with Derek and Lawrence to scrutinise them on the site and find out what makes it the perfect candidate for Time Team.
As Derek explains, all signs suggest that we have literally just scraped the surface of what will be an extremely fascinating dig, with plenty yet to unearth.
After an extremely challenging week for some of us caught up in the tragic Greek floods, we're looking forward to a good weekend digging in the English countryside.
We have further cause to celebrate too, as a certain 30th birthday is looming on the horizon... any guesses?
Dig Watch
For all active Patreon members (Digger tier and above), you'll be by our side, sharing daily tours of the site as developments unfold. As usual, our Q&As are returning. There'll be an opportunity to submit your questions to the team in an upcoming post.
Don't forget: Dig Watch is all about the process - it's your behind-the-scenes pass during the filming of Time Team. The full, completed episode, including interpretation of our findings, wider context, conclusions and reconstructions will premiere at a later date (TBC) on YouTube.
Look out for more details very soon.
Iβm behind on looking at this stuff here because Iβve been busy as of late but this place looks π€© so exciting as usual!

(Replying to Patricia) Ah that's so cool you're able to help sponsor someone else! The Deep Time missions are fully remote π (and free!) no way I could do anything in person either. There's another intake in October so worth looking into to see if it might be something that interests you π

Got my 2 lucky-dip 'We don't dig Mondays' & 'context is (everything)' T-shirts, I've been a member for about 2yrs. But as I'm unable to hit the DV trenches myself, I dropped some coins in a dig coffer & also helped sponsor a student on a dig. ππ

Brilliant! Also coincides with the DigVentures Deep Time mission looking at the LiDAR of Purbeck and Studland - but they have 4 weeks not 3 days π (alas I'm not on that one, wonder if any other Patreons are?)

Love Iron Age hill forts and love Dorset. A fitting dig to mark 30 years of Time Team. Fingers crossed that the weather gods are benevolent.

Looks promising..I'd like to put in my two pence for consideration of two important royal sites:1) The burial site of King Henry I in Reading and 2) King John's lost "treasure" in "The Wash".
