Self-employment blues
Added 2019-06-10 18:39:02 +0000 UTCWritten about 500 words in the last 4 days. I took the weekend off entirely. I was sick for most of that, not horribly, just enough of a cold / fever thing that my motivation to write died. So, I didn't.
Took the time to finish reading Everyone Else is a Returnee which is probably not what I should have done either. I really need to NOT start any new series. Heee.
It's one of the things about being self-employed. On one side of the equation, no one is pushing you to write more beyond yourself. On the other side is the very real knowledge that not working = no food.
Unlike in a job, where you can slack off at times or hide your work, there's always that little devil in your mind.
And what's worse is that there are no real 'holidays', no sick days. You either choose to take them yourself or not. Heck, even weekends are often guilty pleasures. Time not spent working is considered time not earning.
It's a vicious circle sometimes, made worse I've found with writing because writing isn't a straight line process. Sometimes, the best ideas I've had have been lying on my bed, showering, taking a walk, etc. So, you know you need to take time off, time away from the keyboard. But at the same time, spend too long away from it and...
Well, you don't eat.
I've worked for myself full-time for over 12 years now. Run a business since 2006. And being a writer is a whole new balancing job that I'm still struggling with. Weird, eh?
Anyway. This is just random musings, not even a real blog post. Time to get back to actually putting words on paper.
