Edit: While you certainly could use the files below, just know there is a free update later with just more stuff, more tiles, better maps, corrections made and omissions filled. It's only in the 7k resolution, but after extensive testing and with a strong desire to stay sane, it made sense to pour all my efforts into one resolution and make that work really well than to attempt all the versions to the same degree of completedness that this post attempts. 7k is super good and 100px/grid will be my standard going forward.
Well met fellow DMs,
I have spent about 200 hours hand crafting the 6 maps and +120 assets for the Tomb of the Nine Gods dungeon for my own D&D group to run online in Foundry VTT — and well, it’s good to share. For those curious, I started each level in Inkarnate and then cleaned up in Photoshop. I have taken pains to only include original art and designs so that I can truly say that this is a 100% fan-made map pack. So please enjoy what I have made entirely for free.
I have had some help along the way in the form of advice, recommendations, user testing and most importantly encouragement by a bunch of passionate and informed DMs over at the Tomb of Annihilation discord server, most notably Grimmash and Masterhawk. You might have seen Grimmash’s trailer for this very map pack on his YouTube channel; and Masterhawk has worked out the cog maths to have perfectly interlocking rotating gears using Foundry’s Vehicles & Mechanism module for level 5. So if you head on over, be sure to seek them out and say thanks.
There are quite a few files here, so read below to help you decide what should you download. 4k, 7k and 8k speaks to the levels approximate (or exact) width in pixels.
4k Roll20 Swap Out
Fits perfectly over the existing map.
Choose this map pack if you bought the Roll20 Adventure Module and want the minimum amount of wall rework. The map sizes in this pack match those provided by that product, so its easy for you to replace the underlying map file and only have a minimum of wall tweaking to do. This map pack only contains the base map layers and does not contain all the map assets (tiles that go on top of the map), so you’ll have to download those from another map pack. I’d recommend the 7k 80% as they’re the smallest. Even though they will be larger, you’ll be able to snap scale them down to fit your needs.
7k 100% / 7k 80% / 7k webp
Grid size: 100px. 70x50 squares.
If you intend to build the levels yourself, want to keep the files sizes relatively low and you like easy math; then any of the 7k map packs is for you. They are ordered in size from largest to smallest.
8k
Grid size: 117px. 70x50 squares.
If you intend to build the levels yourself, do not care about file size and want the files at the highest resolution and quality, then this is the map pack for you.
I hope these files bring you as much joy as they have me in just the construction of them.
I cannot wait to take my group through them.
