Media Studies - Cyber Bullying

Hello everyone,

this piece is the 2nd one for my Media Studies Class semester work that deals with the impact of social media and technology in our life. This time however, we don't see the happy individual growing with positive energy by receiving positive feedback or kind comments and likes on their post, no. We see a sad girl reading hater comments underneath her profile picture and posts... We see her getting bullied.

On the internet, people can be honest, can be more direct than in the normal daily routine when seeing someone since they don't have to face an instant reaction from the person they're talking to. They're hidden behind their display or desktop and have the possibility to write whatever comes to their mind on the internet without having to worry about consequences directly affecting them. People have the option to post things anonymously, which is why they can't be tracked or punished for shameful behavior and individuals like this girl I chose as an example have to face such insulting comments very oftenly.

No matter if it's just a disaggreement on a topic or plain bullying about the look of someone or even disability, whatever it might be - words can hurt and they can hurt badly, especially on the internet when multiple people aggree or tell you to commit suicide just because they find you ugly or stupid. That is something unacceptable for me. Seriously.

I hope this drawing shows you one of the disadvantages and contras about the use of internet, perhaps even makes you think about your own choice of words and actions if you can see connections.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Comments

You do indeed have a point and usually, people should just look away and ignore these haters and trolls for being annoying and cruel. However, there are sentimental individuals that do take this personal, which I can understand...especially if they get attacked by it on a daily bases. Hopefully bullying in general will decrease and it won't happen often that people need to shed a tear because of the way they're treated. Thank you for sharing your opinion Taily and for your kind words <3

frequent internet users, such as myself, have learned to accept these consequences as inconsiderate trolls and haters exist on the internet, and we either learn to tolerate the hate or just delete/ ban/ block them However you can. Although i dont get the Wilfred the ca td reference xD [which can make trolls sadly funny] but nonetheless still unkind assholes. Oh well, they exist just like people that do it IRL, we cant change them, but we can avoid them and confront them otherwise. nice job lupi!
