The Tenerife Airport Disaster

The chain of events which ended with this disaster began with a bomb inside a flower shop in the terminal of Gando airport. I mention this in the video, but don't go into too much detail... but the story of the bomb is quite an interesting one, so I thought I'd tell it here.

The explosive device (which, thankfully, didn't kill anyone when it detonated), was placed by an organisation called the Canary Islands Independence Movement - a terrorist group who had carried out at least one other bombing in an attempt to force the Spanish government to turn the Canary Islands into an independent state.

Interestingly, it was their last ever bombing. The group voluntarily gave up their terror campaign just a few years later. I can't help but wonder if the horror of having caused so much destruction and cost so many lives (even if it was indirectly) was a factor in that decision.

That is truly uncanny. Will do some more reading - am planning on covering a lot more air disasters in the future. Will take a look at that book series also!

Fascinating Horror

If you plan to do more aircraft accident videos there is a terrific book series I can recommend for research. I own all of them but I think they're out of print now sadly. I found them at thrift stores here in the US.:https://smile.amazon.com/Air-Disaster-Vol-MacArthur-Job/dp/1875671110/ref=mp_s_a_1_26?crid=1STU7Z859O7C3&dchild=1&keywords=air+accident+investigation&qid=1632442092&sprefix=air+accid&sr=8-26 Would love if you covered Japan Air Lines flight 123. I know a few guys at work who were involved in the investigation. It truly haunts me because of how many more survivors there could have been! And the few who survived through the night were all women passengers in the back of the plane and they heard other people moaning in the night until there was silence... So spooky.

We are always the hardest on ourselves... Your voice rocks - cannot wait to hear lots more of it in your videos. Have a great day.
