The Daegu Subway Fire

The construction of a "Safety Theme Park" is a rather unusual development in the wake of a disaster. From the accounts I’ve read of this one, though, it certainly seems to be effective. The attraction helps visitors prepare for earthquakes, rollover car accidents, subway train evacuations, and common medical emergencies... and it does so using immersive, interactive experiences.

Here’s the Theme Park’s YouTube channel, which has footage from many of its different attractions. It’s kind of surreal to see effects that I’m used to seeing as part amusement park rides and Halloween haunted houses being put to use for something rather more serious.

To be honest, though, it seems like a good idea. Over its lifetime it’ll have made an impression on tens of thousands of residents and visitors – all of whom will be just a little bit better equipped if they ever have to deal with an emergency.

Undoubtedly - with that many counts it's hard to imagine any other outcome!

If such a thing happened in the US, he would be given federal crime charges: Committing a crime of violence on a mass transportation system resulting in death (192 counts), Committing a crime of violence on a mass transportation system resulting in injury (150 counts), Use of a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death (1 count), Maliciously destroying property resulting in death (1 count). Given the bodycount, he pretty likely would be put on Federal death row. Goes to show how much the US feds take crimes seriously.

I saw this on the news recently and was really shocked. I've flown through that airport before! Amazing that everyone on the larger aircraft escaped unscathed - must have been a deeply scary experience. Will keep an eye on the story as it develops and look to cover it sometime in the future!

I was almost certain that I'd covered the King's Cross fire... but I took a look just now and it appears that I haven't. Definitely one that I want to cover sometime soon!

How about a video on the recent runway collision in Japan? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNnvcHVEM9M Obviously, since this just happened within this past week (January 2nd), it might be a while until you can do a video on it, but it would be interesting to see you cover the first major disaster/incident of 2024. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Haneda_Airport_runway_collision

What a horrible way to die. My memory may be mistaken, but did you cover the King’s Cross Fire in London? The fatalities weren’t nowhere near as bad as this one. The text messages from the victims remind me of the phone calls from 9/11.
