Back in like 2010 I got into a relatively heated back-and-forth with a female cousin of mine who I was initially close with growing up. We landed on the topic of black issues and she was adamantly advocating feminist talking points for black women and hounding me about comments I made about Gloria Steinum being an informant and creator of chaos and confusion. I got exhausted with her and her tireless whining and just asked her point blank period, "Are you black first or a woman? When Uncle Joe and Aunt Sue had you, did they know they were having a black child or a girl first?" practically verbatim. Her response was, "Both!". Right then I deemed her disingenuous, intellectually dishonest and a sellout and I went on about my business. I knew she wasn't alone (in being women first, not black)...but I was, until you, thoroughly perplexed by that interaction. It hadn't quite occurred to me how deep that rabbit hole could be.
