Warriors vs Thunder GM-9

Comments

I dont think it looks that bad offensively. He’s getting better too.

A L

I'm starting to feel like given Kerr's track record for always favoring vets with a pedigree over younger guys, most likely you're right that Melton is staying and Moody is the guy who might get included in a trade for a big man (assuming one is available). I feel like even though Moody has the most amazing potential, he hasn't shown it, in the admittedly small amount of play time he's gotten. It was very telling that even when Melton, Steph, AND Wiggs were out, we still didn't see Mood that much.

Neal X

It’s a joke, dude, relax.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Thanks, I really needed more reason to feel cynical these days.

Neal X

I think the reason SGA gets his shot off so easily is of course he's strong, with long arms and big hands, but it's that stride and he is a DWade like snake through the lane. Also his jumpers are fade aways AND quick shots, usually it's one or the other.

Russ

SGA is using that forearm elbow shove way too much, refs at fault for sure, he's the new darling of the league. Many of the OKC players copy his off hand (Hardenesque) fend off. Also Melton fits in the starting 5 trying not to let the other teams shooters catch any rythum early, Buddy may be salty about it but the second team needs shooters. It's just that everyone wants to play with Steph as u get so many more open looks.

Russ

We actually played much better on the road than home last year. It was weird. Does anybody have any theories of why that would be other that "rich-ass people who can afford seats aren't real fans and don't cheer."

John Pettus

What are you talking about? He was like 39% from 3 in college, as a primary threat. His shot will come around.

John Pettus

Man I hate these conspiracy theories. Just making everybody dumber.

John Pettus

Man, I don't know. Lotta hesitation and suss decisions.

John Pettus

I don't trust JK's decision making. At all. Dude does not have basketball player instincts.

John Pettus

Last year, no question we blow this that huge... er, lead.

John Pettus

the face only a mother could love LMAO!!

Brian Sullivan

Absolutely. Is Steven Adams possibly on the market? He also has injury concerns, but he would have the strength to at least jockey for position against the Zubac's of the league; and he would definitely fit the culture.

Neal X

Yeah I'm worried Klay gonna be squeezing through the whole game, they'll lose, and at the same time Buddy gonna score a bunch, and all that is gonna get into Klay's head even more :(

Ivan (Vanya) Kashperuk

They could’ve drafted JK but they picked Harry Potter on stilts instead

Hg80

100% agree that it was a big show of faith and a demonstration of both Kerr & Kuminga's maturation that Kerr subbed him in for the final key minutes of the game. Was great to see it pay off. Would love to see Kuminga bring that level of intensity on the defensive side more often, not just end of games.

stephen rice

Exactly! 😂

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Love this advice. Simple fundamentals. Just like your take about JK’s ‘bag.’ Master the simple fundamentals is all he needs to do with his elite athleticism. MJ is exhibit A to prove your case.

Special K

"the most phallic player in the league" hahahahaha you wildin alch

adrian salazar

What’s the biggest thing JK could improve on significantly in the following months? This team is jelling so well, even a fundamental improvement could greatly enhance this team.

Salvador

They're about to send Klay to the gulag with his nonchalant comments😂😂. Still all love but we need to pad the win column while we can

AK

Thunders drafting is crazy. Take a look at guys like Lindy Waters and Tre Mann. Even their end of roster guys that have to be traded away have mad potentials.

Qiushi Hu

I love this theory. He's disrespecting their authority by not flailing around. The more you supplicate yourself by flopping or throwing your head back, the more you're showing them the proper respect. It's not embellishment, it's groveling.

Mike Peterson

You know Steph remembers that SGA instagram post from last year. Karma is a b*tch.

Michael E

He needs Tim Duncan to remind JK of the value of fundamentals

Neal X

“And once again Wiggins has altered the Western Conference” l😂😂😂😂😂😂

Ash

Great breakdown as usual! Can’t wait for this game tomorrow!

KareFree

Plus last game/quarter of long road trip energy/mental fatigue.

Chip Tingle

Radically different roles on this roster. Podz true point guard skills (connector) are a set MoMo and JK don’t have, won’t learn at this point. Now that Melton is back, it all feels more balanced to me about Podz’ minutes and role at this moment, rather than having no other better options like last year. All this said, spunky white dudes sell tickets, for better or worse.

Chip Tingle

Ay man, with this kind of interchangeable roster, old vets and accountability from Kerr... I could see JK being a star THIS year. He's always gonna be the best pick in tense moments. He just raises his level of play.

yan't get right

Let’s let Podz get the mask off and check back on shooting.

Chip Tingle

Exactly what I was thinking - why is Chet jumping with abandon when he has nothing to cushion his fall? Needs to hang out with Zion to learn how to eat!

deb m.

I still laugh at the shit you said last time we played OKC: daiegnault looks like he’s about to do a CIA interrogation 😂. Dude really looks like he’d water board you in a heartbeat.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Keep ‘em coming! Says the goofy looking white dude…

Chip Tingle

This is the most I’ve thought about steep fines for flopping. Ugly, bad for the league. How long before players wear more padding around the hips? Fast and full to Chet! To Ja, too!

Chip Tingle

Shoutout Dunleavy Jr. From the FA pickups, to the staff additions and drafting. Don't think he's put a foot wrong so far as GM.

Vulacior

You said it right, Stotts! 🎉

deb m.

ok fair point but iirc he really never could shoot. Last year, I think it was either TK or Slater who was talking about how he physically doesn't shoot, he just takes floaters & push shots. At first I was like wtf, no way. Then I payed attention & was like oh shit, it's true. Anyway, I like his energy alot & want to see him improve in that area

Mikey H

it was mad devious even tho it wasn't.. like in a Disney sports movie

Athletic Alchemy

right if you caught the live stream I went into that a little.. you want 200M you are going to get scrutinized more than a guy who is probably going to be a 12-15M per year guy. JK is handling it well Im excited for him

Athletic Alchemy

Alc, you’re the fairest analyst re players and it’s not close.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

he needs to just old school sit in a stance and slide for min at a time, and you are forced to do it efficiently or you will burn out too quick

Athletic Alchemy

yeah, somethin is def up between them & it's not even just w Steph. but like i said, I'm ok with it or...

Mikey H

specailly the way these other guys are dropping like flies.. KD out a couple weeks now with a calf

Athletic Alchemy

dont get it twisted Wigs exploding up at full force not many bigs were going to win that collision.. but I hear you they aint falling like that either. Chet has one of those bodys that is just not going to carry any weight

Athletic Alchemy

I seen that after, that is a crazy number of boards.. half of them had to be off the bounce or tip lose balls

Athletic Alchemy

nah I feel you.. I was hyped for Wigs

Athletic Alchemy

we up! its going to be a playoff like atmosphere tomorrow no doubt

Athletic Alchemy

I hear you, but I’m reserving judgment re shooting till the mask comes off.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Im with you.. now granted my job is to be constantly critiquing these guys I try to do it as fair as possible. I will not die on a hill form some old take, if something changes I say what is in front of me. That said I could stand to be a little more critical of Podz I just dont want to feed the unnecessary hate

Athletic Alchemy

I knew the numbers would back up what I saw, thanks Mike lol

Athletic Alchemy

well said.. probably because he hasn't had to carry the whole way

Athletic Alchemy

nah I don't discriminate the coaches are just easy targets to get a joke off

Athletic Alchemy

The only explanation for the Steph Whistle is that refs take it personal when you *don’t* grift. Like, “oh, so you think you can do this without us???” They’re like the godfather. They’ll only help you if you kiss the ring first. Guys like Shai & Harden are Jonny Fontaine.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Hopefully JK becomes the answer for the scoring droughts

Athletic Alchemy

Love Kuminga. def need someone who can just blast thru a defense & score. He'll get there this season i believe Podz, idk. The guy can't shoot. yeah, he does other things but he really can't shoot- like at all. I agree w Alc tho. I think he should get 15-20 mins max

Mikey H

Title: game 10

Brian Simpson

The two big problems i see so far is- -The starting lineup is awful. Hopefully, w DeAnthony in there it improves it a bit, but still looks clunky with only 1 scorer -2nd is that they often have these stretches where they just can't score without chef on the floor. most of the time its like 10 or so points but allowing these 20-30 point comebacks is nuts. -oh yeah, 3rd, they can't make their FTs

Mikey H

The warriors will never get a fair whistle. There's nothing I can do about it & Im ok with that. The warriors will never get a fair whistle. There's nothing I can do about it & Im ok with that. The warriors will never get a fair whistle. There's nothing I can do about it & Im ok with that. The warriors will never get a fair whistle. There's nothing I can do about it & Im ok with that. 😅

Mikey H

Yeah, I saw that on a couple plays too. There was a Slowmo floater that Kuminga wanted to put back.

Irvin Mugo

love it

Naji Zouhari

He was ready for that put back too.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

13:11 Steph has an incredible read on the double, and Melton had the steal...BUT KUMINGA!!!! That close out and lead to the basket without cutting off the path and fouling was everything I want to see from him. I thought this whole possession leading to the Steph night-night was the best play of the game.

Irvin Mugo

After a decade of following Alch, I think I finally cracked it—he’s got a serious dislike for how these young coaches look

Erin Laskey

This year’s “Steph, bring us home!” against the best teams feels a lot better than last year’s “Steph, save us!” against anyone and everyone.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

The best mechanism for a ref to shave points is offensive fouls. It doesn't show up in the FTA column and they can pin it on whomever they want and call one on literally any play. It's 100% refs discretion and you only get one challenge. An offensive foul on the floor is on average a 2.29 point swing. An offensive foul called on a made shot is either 3.145 or 4.145 (or even 5.145 for a 3pt shot if the shooter is called for the foul!). This 4th quarter was brought to you by Draft Kings.

Mike Peterson

I don’t get the Podz or Kuminga hate. I love both of those guys for v similar reasons. Podz is a winner, pure and simple. Anyone who plays the way he does has a friend in me. I’ve been Team Kuminga ever since Krysten Peek went on about how hard he works. I loved that Slater confirmed as much in the latest +/- pod. Neither of them are perfect, but they’re both extremely talented players who are working hard to maximize their gifts & opportunity. To me, that’s what sports (& life) is all about. I’m happy to root for them and hope they both stick around for a long time.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

That’s a fair take on Kerr and the front office. Their coaching approach and personalities seem perfectly suited for handling different player types, especially when it comes to developing raw talents like Kuminga. Can you imagine how much worse Kuminga’s fundamentals might be if Kerr hadn’t kept such a tight leash? Kerr would pull him if he made big mistakes, which forced him to stay focused. Kuminga’s defense is a mixed bag—sometimes he’s elite, other times he’s rough—but his athleticism lets him oscillate between those extremes on a possession-by-possession basis. A player with Kuminga’s natural gifts, who’s been the best athlete on most teams he’s played on, needed that kind of strict guidance to reach his potential. He was always bound for the league, but Kerr’s coaching might be what takes him to the next level. Kerr seems to recognize that Kuminga’s growth could define the team’s ceiling. The confidence Kuminga shows in big moments suggests he has star potential. I wouldn’t be surprised if, at some point, he goes on a stretch where he looks like the best player on the floor for the Warriors. On the other hand, Podz has a different trajectory. Despite being 6’4”, he doesn’t have standout athletic gifts or physical tools that jump off the page. Players like him have to make up for that with technical skill, hustle, and a high basketball IQ. They don’t get by on raw talent—they have to learn how to outthink and outwork opponents to succeed. I doubt Kerr has to get on Podz as much because he’s the kind of player who figures things out independently. Kerr probably feels a connection with Podz because he sees a bit of himself in him. Like Kerr, Podz ceiling is as a high-level role player who makes the right plays and always ready. While Podz’s ceiling may be as a valuable role player, Kuminga’s potential is All-NBA. It’s no accident that the guards who are most vocal and driven often don’t have the same physical gifts as players like Kuminga. They’ve had to work extra hard just to reach the league, kuminga was probably scouted and locked at a possible lottery pick at 15-16 years old.

Robert St.Claire

Riding the hot hand. Let JK play all day. He's a young man and he is at the perfect spot in his arc.

Jim

He's too thin. I thought the same thing. And apparently he has broke his hip before. This is common to fall on your hips and tailbone, etc in basketball. Like most would prefer that then their wrists and elbows etc because you usually have enough muscle and meat on your hips to help cushion but chet has nothing. He really needs to put on some muscle

Carla Davis

Alc, they just went - 4-1 on a road trip. 6-1 in all road games so far into the season. - Very difficult but played 3 teams at the end of a road run who were 22-2 put together, which they went 2-1 against. - Things are looking good. Melton was always the easy choice for me to start this year, he just needs to remain healthy. - OKC's diving and playacting is obnoxious, glad they got punked. - Don't know if it's gonna happen, but I would love the Warriors to put an absolute beating on the Mavs tomorrow night.

Julian

IMO lots of things. Like Alc says, they were always going to make a run and the refs were running the game like they had bets that night. Shit was disgraceful. Also any lineup probably turns off mentally when they're up that much as well as OKC has some history on comebacks and fighting until the end.

Julian

Definitely not celebrating the injury, but Id be absolutely lying if I didnt get all "OH YEAH, ICE UP SON" on Chet when that happened. Wiggs game him his true "Welcome to the NBA" moment. Hit the gym Chet! Heal up soon so your fans can stop throwing excuses around! A win is a win. Especially on the end of a long road trip against a team this good. But this is now the 2nd time they nearly blew a 30 pt lead. That, to me, is unacceptable. Especially the way they let it happen. Chucking threes and careless TOs, not boxing out allowing easy offensive rebs and giving up wide open 3s. Those are not good habits and they need to address those now if they want to even dream about winning a playoff series. 60 games. Thats the threshold for Melton. If we can have him healthy for 60 games and then be good for all of the playoffs, thats a win in my book. He is amazing when he plays so we definitely need him. Call me a pessimist but Im kind of getting annoyed with TJD. He continues to bobble balls he shouldnt, has ZERO offensive game if its not a dunk, and is still too small to guard real bigs like Zubac. If we matchup with the clippers in the playoffs somehow, Zubac alone could be catastrophic to our entire playstyle. We still need a REAL big. I dont know how we'll get him. And I dont actually see it happening. But we need one. Once Chet and Hartenstein are healthy, OKC will tower over us AND out-hustle us. This game was a good win, but it didnt feel that great at the end because of another near collapse. Im sure I felt worse though because of the 49ers game right before it.......fucking Moody man.

Jansen E

Think with Chet going down for 2-3 months, Warriors can even finish first if they remain relatively healthy. If that happens, he has a good shot but maybe Jokic will get his 4th after finishing 10th because of his amazing PER and VORP.

Julian

Melton is everything we expected, he even rebounds, 10 board. He just help us become a contender. Wiggins is rebounding well too and his shot is back. Melton is a good thing to Podz, now Podz can learn from him, and I guess Podz will grow much more in 2nd half or next season. My biggest take is to play Lindy as much as possible, as he will be the one who can sub for Melton as the movement shooter. if we got Lindy become the a shooter like D Bane, we can beat anyone. 3 movement shooters on court at all time, while rebounding well at the guards. That is absolute heaven. Sad thing is Moody, he will be the odd man out.

Natto Santo

Chet needs to hit the weight room hard!!. Andrew wiggins is not that physically imposing. Chet was hit body to body by a lighter than average wing and he completely lost his balance in mid air. lol its not like he was undercut or something. I mean i could understand landing and stumbling back..... but how on earth can he tip completely over from contact like that?

Adrian

Are we sniffin' a potential 3rd MVP campaign for Steph? I think as long as he plays 65 games and we maintain a top 3 seed in the West, it's possible.

Jimmy Ji

A long time ago when Kuminga was new, I theorized he would be a good defender because he was from Congo, which is a soccer country, and if he'd played soccer as a kid he would know from birth basically how to use lateral quickness to defend. Now, it's clear that for whatever reason, Kuminga apparently didn't play soccer at all in his home country lol.

Neal X

To be fair, kuminga is up for a big contract and while he has the tools to be great- they dont want to pay him 40 million a year unless they are sure he can be a go to guy on a consistent basis. He has not proven that yet. Podz fits thye system, he will probably never demand much more than mid level money, and he is on a rookie deal for the next 3 yrs.

Adrian

Funny how strongly Buddy reacted to Isaiah Joe’s shot to end the 1st (~3:58)

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Love your humor and insights 💯

Frank Ravizza

These refs had me tweakin

Diego

The Kendall Roy reference got me 😂

Emmanuel Castillo

I think to your answer about the Kuminga vs Podz thing with expectation and how much people nitpicking them is: The team said Podz was a piece they were not willing to move for Markkanen (it later came out that negotiation was never that close but that was Slater on a Podcast and not Shams on national TV). Therefore, a lot of people feel like Warriors FO have high expectation for Podz adding him to apparently have longer leash than Kuminga ever has in his 1st year moving on to 2nd year from Kerr people just want to point at Podz and say the FO belief in being more than just a very good 3rd guard and Kerr long leash for him is wrong/ or Kuminga should have gotten all that from Kerr and FO.

Viet Huy Vu

every game ive seen that asian ref do he looks like hes petrified. maybe the worst ref in the league

Slurpy

🔥

joss gitlin

Wiggs glance back cracked me up xD Hope best for Chet

Maksim Petrushin

lol lets go!

Athletic Alchemy

they were going to make a run regardless

Athletic Alchemy

Kerr starts the second 4th with an ego lineup, that’s the analysis for the collapse, talks so much about combinations and throws out shit that don’t work and spends 10 minutes watching it sputter before thinking, “this ain’t working”. Nothing else to say on that. But the refs were tweaking on the SGA push offs and the soft fouls on one end not being consistent for both sides. Kuminga “pushes off” and it’s a call, then SGA does it RIGHT AFTER and it’s right back to no calls.

Sarcasm 360

Losing Chet gave us the win. No team is gonna out small ball Kerr lol

Jordan Smith

Perfect timing. Just sat down on the train to work and see this uploaded.

Kelvin Wong

Alch, how sweet will it be when you're doing Valkyrie breakdowns and your daughter is in the starting lineup! Let's go!

Nathan Glanzer

Was super excited for the breakdown :)
