Warriors vs Nets GM-17

Comments

In case you haven’t noticed, they’re gone.

TaKisha Warren

What is the reason for only playing moody 4 mins when he was cooking💀

Rudraansh Shaunak

I was at the game. I saw it with my own eyes. Podz and Lindy can’t guard their man.

Hg80

I thought we were going to loose at the Draymond blocking foul. It was so clear that he slid his feet.

RafMan10

idk why we would lose this games...

Claudio Cesar Esteffan Sepulveda

Great idea!

ntare rugamba

The real problem with the 12-man rotation is it gave us like 3 different layers of guys who could theoretically replace "prime Klay" and reinvent our magical 2022 starting line up, but none of it is ever gonna make up for the fact that the two most irreplaceable players--Steph and Dray--are OLD. This org has deep problems in not being able to move on from the past. And like you said, the strength is definitely the weakness. Sometimes they look like 2022 glory, but sometimes it looks really, really bad.

yan't get right

We can win games and rest the old guys more. There's literally no other option except burnout

yan't get right

I think it's more than just Kerr. His coaching philosophies and experiments have been primarily developed with Steph Curry as the focal point. And he chooses to keep it that way because Steph prefers it that way, too. We're finally at the point where the experimenting will require Kerr to rethink how much he relies on Steph, and Steph needs to accept that, too. I hope they both decide to risk some creative ideas for the sake of team success. We can't do what we did last year

yan't get right

Kerr has to be done with experimenting with random rotations. He needs to do what a coach does and FIGURE IT OUT. WHO works best to play WHEN, and WHY. Moses was hot this game, and we needed scoring badly down the stretch. TJD is a fantastic presence for us on both ends. Not playing either of them more was criminal. Kyle Anderson should be slotted in for Draymond when Draymond is playing like shit, not put in ALONGSIDE Draymond. Idiotic.

Neal X

Are you in communication w this circle of shooting coaches that focus on one player like Podz? It’s so glaring, I don’t get it!

Chip Tingle

Man, this game was annoying af to watch. Whatever funk Steph is in, he needs to snap out of it asap. Cos this record will evaporate before they know it. Tbh, I'd rather see him shoot 20x in a qtr than watch him be passive in the first half of games and be a TO machine with those one-handed hook passes. To be fair though, he looks tired out there.. hand to hand combat to get open at 36 is different to doing it in your 20s to early 30s. If he's tired for real though, sit him and take the L's.. Better than rolling him out there and risking injury because that's how injuries happen

AK

Kerr said they haven't practiced in a week......

Bailey

Melton's contract and a couple picks for Schroeder?

Omer Ali

Jansen- haha, clearly I hit a nerve! It's so true though. That's why Kerr always talks about "execution." That means: my scheme is perfect, it's the players who are wrong.

Mike Peterson

Steph was lost on defense (funniest play at the 4:43 mark of the 4th with dray) and he was scared to drive to the rim….no midrange too…in his scouting report,he had awful shot selection as a rookie if i remember correctly….old habits stick like a sore thumb…something to watch in 4th quarters with fatigue…funny how podz closed the game….it’s going to get darker and darker for kerr if he doesn’t adjust his approach

ntare rugamba

Hell ya we miss kuminga especially last night. He’s the only dude who has the size and quickness to bother schroeder. Even gp2 was getting cooked. With no rim protector on the nets either, he would’ve dominated

bruhchillll

Hey Alc - JK’s true shooting is way down and he seems to be missing more shots at the rim than usual. Have you noticed any structural reason why he’s been missing more at the rim? (I’d love to believe it’s just like Wiggins earlier in the season - ie things are looking good but just not falling…)

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Yes, agreed.

Neal X

We’re gonna lose 3 in a row. I got the feeling after NOLA.

deb m.

Schröder is a dawg. He will hustle through all 4 quarters. Sneaky good. Not a bad take.

deb m.

Bball players are creatures of habits…you want to reinvent the wheel…12 man rotation has never been done before and there’s a reason why…guys need rythm and focus…there’s a lot of money at stake

ntare rugamba

Yes looses is inevitable but the evaporation of 15 20 and even 30 point leads in no time is inexcusable.

Dale Happy Knowles

What is worse Jasper is Kerr seems to believe 1 is enough instead of feeding both Wiggs, JK and add Moody as rim crashers.

Dale Happy Knowles

How is wiggins inconsistent?! He’s been the only guy on offence that’s been keeping us in these last few games. His defence is also incredible. There are lot of things wrong with this team, but Wiggins isn’t one of them!

Ash

More people watch the Warriors probably than any other team, so you can make a name for yourself against us.

Alex Kay

Kerr doesn't learn. He would say the right things but he seems too stubborn to change.

Alex Kay

Win and barely a comment, lose and everyone has an opinion and knows what to do. Not mad at the loss. Only 2 of 5 this season where they had control and lost it due to lack of urgency. Even the best teams will lose around 30 games. Let's not break out the cyanide pill yet. Lol K.I.M. Denver got their panties blown off last night, so did the clips and Kings. STILL A LONG SEASON LEFT

Nos Dollas

Alc and crew, did we notice the big drop off with the absence of JK? Give the man confidence yiu will pay him because even if he does not do everything perfectly playing out of potion and style, his presence alone has a gravity that makes life easier for many of those shooters over the last two games in particular. That's respect for what he can do if they dont pay close attention to JK. On the other side Podski a walking negative +/- in the clutch right now. And to put him in with the closing 5 has been fatal. I agree with your assessments and comments in relation to this distant run around the mulberry bush, college style BBall. There has to be some aggressive down hill drives/cuts or Dfences will saturate the perimeter. GPII may be banged up and don't have the ups right now but at least he is the one non ball handler who is challenging defenders at the rim. We need more of that. Moody don't need to make drastic changes in his shot motion. What he need to do is start is shot motion before he catches the ball. Worries advantage was high octane max burn out , next. That is not sustainable missing all those minutes from Melton and JK so we have to adjust so our players don't burn out b4 the 4th start

Dale Happy Knowles

I agree that the "12 man rotation" may be the first thing to go because literally everyone who talks about basketball acts like it's a horrible idea because, GOD FORBID, players not play as many minutes. Like it's some sort of good thing to wear them down more during the regular season? Having all those guys play reliably was allowing our two old players the opportunity to not be as tired, and to give more fucking effort on defense. With just 2 guys from the 12 out (Melton & Kuminga), the 10 man rotation is exhausting Curry and Green, and they cannot play well in their regular rotation patterns. Imagine how much worse this is going to look if Kerr puts more minutes on them or, god forbid, they go into the playoffs with the expectation of playing more minutes at 110% effort.

Thomas Ogas

"Kerr would rather lose within the system than win with a mismatch." You put that brilliantly. And what I absolutely HATE the most? Steve Kerr and Kyle Shanahan are exactly the same motherfucker in that respect. Doesnt matter if you find something that obviously works and beats the other team. Is it part of the "sYStEm"??????? No? Well then we are going to abandon it. Dont care about mismatches, or taking advantage of another teams weakness. Just keep beating the same dead horse because IT WORKED IN THE PAST THAT ONE TIME!!! Our opponent made an adjustment to our gameplan? Well that just means we have to lean even HARDER on the gameplan because eventually it will work right?!?!

Jansen E

And then again against Kings in the play-in lmao. Kerr repeatedly gets CTE like 10 games into the season. It's infuriating.

Slava G

People seem to want a bit too much from this team. Gotta rest the old guys, but also win every game! Losing is never fun and play in is scary thought but look every team in the West is dealing with different issues; we're in better shape than most. All they can do is give themselves a shot. Next play next game.

B Master

Ah yes, notable blue eyed blondes Anthony Lamb and Brad Wanamaker. Definitely a race thing.

Slava G

We have a losing record when JK does not play, I think it’s 17-18.

Diego

Besides Steph, JK is the only other Warrior opposing players fear defending. When he's unavailable, opponents are licking their chops. The defensive energy that Brooklyn played with looked different than our earlier games with JK on the floor. It's as simple as that.

Jimmy Ji

I agree Schröder would be a nice get. I do wonder about chemistry. He seems like a very weird dude and aside from BB, not that bright (eg. his contract negotiation skills). The Dubs seem to care a lot about chemistry, so I wonder if they're even interested. I would like to roll those dice, he's an interesting player, as you pointed out.

e40

Agreed.. let Podz be a second side attacker

Athletic Alchemy

Id do it with the understanding we could some how keep him beyond this year

Athletic Alchemy

I'm not saying it's Podziemski's fault, but Kerr would have personally packed Moody's bags if Moody was in the game for 11 minutes and the team went from 9 point lead to 4 point deficient.

Goku44

Makes sense, Moody always looks like he is breathing hella hard.

Dr. Sanjin

everyone starts the year like this year Im do this! Im do that! and then 20 gm in you see what has stuck.. thats kinda how I see it

Athletic Alchemy

Hahaha right!

Irvin Mugo

Yeah, no one has said it better than you Alchemy, JK excels in those timely buckets at these moments that seem random, but are actually pivotal swing moments in the game.

Irvin Mugo

You saw him almost stick that put back dunk.. Podz is quick enough and strong enough what really limits his game are the stiff hips watch when he gets to the nail for the middy

Athletic Alchemy

lol JK hitting the Jerry Maguire rn

Athletic Alchemy

I see his tweets, he can be funny when Kerr is actually to blame.. but yeah there are levels to this stuff

Athletic Alchemy

valid point, although you'd imagine if you are Steph Curry you have a ridiculous amount of belief

Athletic Alchemy

well said.. its not how much but when and how

Athletic Alchemy

I think he gets memorized by Podz motor sometimes .. " like we need energy and some one to push pace"

Athletic Alchemy

I think he has matured a lot the last few years.. hes been running BKN stuff super well

Athletic Alchemy

DS has matured a lot playing for Germany imo

Athletic Alchemy

I wonder if they would if not for this push against it

Athletic Alchemy

I seen Steph dapping up some young guy the other night I forget who.. but I was thinking theses kids were all in UA camps like 3-4 yr ago lol

Athletic Alchemy

If he viewed Mood as a ball handler I bet he'd get way more opportunity

Athletic Alchemy

I was thinking... how bad is he trying to get back?

Athletic Alchemy

Thats a great point Ejikeme!

Athletic Alchemy

Kerr may need some of his options taken away

Athletic Alchemy

I agree it looks that way most nights..

Athletic Alchemy

Kerr knows exactly what the fuck he’s doing, and is a politician when addressing the media about it. Remember this?: https://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2023/11/30/23982663/dub-hub-steve-kerr-regrets-terrible-decision-bench-moses-moody-kings-warriors “I regret it”….”Not my best day as a coach”. Fuck you Kerr. This is literally all he does. Is it a race thing? Why does Podz get the green light to do whatever the fuck he wants and play like shit, but Moody can hit 3 threes in a row and be benched? Why does Kuminga generate our only offense without Steph but god FORBID he misses a rotation, but Anthony Lamb can clank shots all day and who cares what he does? I thought this was supposed to be a new year and new team. Okay we don’t have a big. That’s fine. How about we don’t make the same mistakes as last year? Oh what’s that? We do it on purpose? Lol cool. With the niners being dead in the water, it’d be nice to enjoy one Bay Area sports team. I guess it’s too much to ask after 15 games.

Jansen E

Unc I feel like our squad just isn’t athletic enough compared to the rest of the league. Outside of wiggs and jk we have a lot of guys who get beat off the dribble or can’t beat a guy off the dribble. The philosophy of having smart basketball players only goes so far.

Jasper Sterling

Oh they do for sure, every single team suddenly plays like it's game 7 of the finals against us and inevitably just start drilling bs contested 3s like they are JR Smith and Kyrie Irving

KuraiT

Remember the Kings game from November of last year where Moses scored like 12 points in the 4th then was benched. History repeated itself?

Goku44

It seems to me that there might be a fundamental flaw with the 12 man rotation. One of Kerr’s strengths as a coach is that he’s very sensitive to his players’ mentals. If he trusts you, but you’re slumping he will give you support and rope to help you get out of it. The problem is that the 12 man rotation might require you to quickly move away from guys when it’s not their night. Kerr is a big picture thinker wrt to the season - so his focus might be on getting Buddy & Podz right for December & beyond. But the 12 man strategy requires the coach to be a bit more myopic - Moody is on now, so put Moody in. As is often the case, the strength is the weakness.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

I know it’s been talking about for years now but it’s just super disappointing how moodz opportunities have been handled. I know he’s got his limitations but it’s been pretty obvious he can go on heaters with enough volume. Choriza, Ty jerome, pods, now Lindy etc all seem to have just gotten unlimited opportunity but moods ain’t sniffing any of that. It was almost exactly a year ago when he went the fuck off against sac and then just got benched for no reason lol

Connor H

JK is being treated like crap by Kerr, probably taking time off for his mental health

Joseph Makara

Based on your breakdowns, the sense I’m getting is that Steph and Dray are tired. They came out the gate hot. Steph had some heroics in the 4th (vs Celtics couldn’t miss). But now they don’t have that juice. And wigs is inconsistent. Buddy can’t be relied on either. Agreed that they need to find a real 9 man rotation. Probably without Lindy

Gary

im starting to get ptsd bro, this team almost had me believing they were different but they've slipped back into their terrible habits of overhelping and predictable offense

Johnny Marko

Absolutely

Irvin Mugo

Crazy how we are not the dynasty anymore but every team still treats us like a proving ground. I watch a lot of games and it sure feels like teams still get up for us more than any other. More than the Celts even.

Grizzly Thief

Kuminga is so good for us

yan't get right

😂😂😂 the funniest breakdown of season so far. had smoke for everybody. "doing what he wanted all night, like he paid for it" "real charmin-y" THESE BOYS OLD, MAN. Hang it up. This is starting to look exactly like last season where 20 games in Kerr was shamed into leaning into the young guys. Now we've started this season with a narrative of "depth", so can we just play like a young team finally? Can we just finally do what the Spurs did when their vets were on the way out? Just load manage. There are too many rules in place, man. Let the young dubs COOK against young teams!

yan't get right

I don't want Schoder, I just don't really like the dude, never liked the vibe. Yeah he's good on paper, I just don't like it. But I am big on trying to get our hands on Claxton -- rim protector, can run the floor? But yeah, not playing TJD or Moody down the stretch in this game just proves that Kerr has his habits and is stuck in them, him Dray and Steph all starting to feel a little old and out to lunch in games like this. Kerr insists on playing Moody like he's a veteran role player like Sean Livingston he can just plug in for a few minutes here and there and doesn't respect he's not that guy. Kyle Anderson is Draymond's backup and should be playing minutes INSTEAD of Dray (especially if he's playing like dogshit) but not WITH Dray. Insane. As for Podz, I still have some hope he'll come out of the slump and find some energy, but something needs to be done to build his self-confidence, but he's showing signs of putting way too much pressure on himself.

Neal X

The two guys who are resistant to that are Moody and Kuminga, Moody got done dirty this game and Kuminga sick. Agenda-less basketball has left and proof is that one handed 3 pointer steph tossed up in the late 4th, something he did often last season when the offense was doing exactly this.

Sarcasm 360

Yup same thing that happened last season is happening again where they build up an almost 20 point lead in the 3rd quarter only to get stagnant, let the lead trickle away and adjustments coming too late. I get that happens a lot now in the NBA, but it just feels like we have more of these losses than any other team. Even in some of our wins, that's happened. The Rockets win and the recent win vs the Pelicans come to mind.

Nick Elliston

Because he screwed up. He admitted he didn't coach well.

Neal X

Not sure Schroeder is the guy. He’s a hero of course for bringing the Ship to Germany, and he has grown as a player, but he’s a floor general who needs touches and not quite as good a three point shooter as he thinks he is. I fear he wouldn’t get enough time with the warriors and then take ill-advised shots because he wants to show what he can do. He’d be great for Denver I think.

Patrick Sonnenberg

Don’t get me wrong, Alc is my number 1. I been following for a long time but I would like to hear a discussion between two basketball minds on the warriors

Leopoldo Soto

Steph and Dray can't get up for these low level teams and Kerr needs to adjust mins and rotations for that. And Schoder would be a difference makers, along with another wing and it big

Chaz G

Lol this is disrespectful to Alc to put Jim Park in the same sentence.

Jordan Smith

Why do you think Kerr went with more Podz and less Moody in the second half?

Dr. Sanjin

You said it man, Dray and Steph were dogging it. They consistently don't show effort against teams like this. I can live with Steph playing bad on defense because you're just trading at that point, but Dray is such an offensive liability (especially against switching defenses) you can't afford to have him also camping at the nail watching threes fly over his head. Lindy is a nice shooter, but he's a bad POA and that encourages Steph's bad habit of sagging to "help." All that said, this is 100% on Kerr. Dray was comatose, Loon is too slow to run with Brooklyn... but they had no answer for TJD or Moody, we should have punished their lack of size. Put those little guys on the grill, make them foul you, and walk them down. Kerr would rather lose within the system than win with a mismatch.

Mike Peterson

I get everyone is on edge. I will say, we did afford ourselves a cushion. If we had 2 games like this and we were 8th, then it's desperation time. But because of the work we have done, we can afford this. No one said we had to stay number 1 in the standings. What I hope tho, is that dubnation can realize the true value of JK. It's not about whether he scores 30 a night or has a perfect defensive game with no mistakes. He is a stabilizer. He has confidence not only in his game, but in what he can provide for this team. I can't be the only one who sees how under control our offense is when JK is playing, and gets a little nervous whenever JK is on the bench. There have been plenty of games where he's been on the bench, and internally I'll think, "Kuminga needs to be in this game." The games that Kerr relies on him, we've won, the games where Kerr abandons him or he's not available, we've lost or its gotten dangerously close. It's really as simple as that.

Irvin Mugo

Park is awful. Do not recommend at all.

Ryan Farber

I wonder if losing Melton hit Steph really hard and made him feel like there was no point to try as hard as before. It just seems since that announcement, Steph has been just in a funk.

e40

Could not agree more with everything you said. ESPECIALLY the Podz sword vs Moody/JK sword. I mean he be gobbling the Podz sword, and Podz played well, and I think this could start something. But even if Podz played terribly, Kerr would choose him over JK because he "fits the mold" better. Yeah, and that "mold" is what has produced 2 back to back STINKERS!

Irvin Mugo

Ever hear of Jim Park? You and him are my go to for warriors content. It would be dope to hear a podcast featuring both of yall. You both bring great takes and see the small things that are often overlooked

Leopoldo Soto

Hmmmmm, we lose again and who is not out there for us...👀👀👀 I mean you see how the second unit just runs the same action around the 3 point line with no penetration. Y'all can scream trade him all y'all want, but this is why we need JK more than we need maybe anyone else on this team

Irvin Mugo

Putting details on the suck… I like Alch w a disgusted, pissed off edge! Your breakdown on beating Dubs D, slipping screens, ready to swing fast…good coaching and league has caught up. “Whitest iso”…now if he will just develop an actual pull-up middy jumper over the full court like his left corner. I want Dante or Schroeder in Melton role! Anyone watched Simmons this year?

Chip Tingle

Somewhere in the 3rd quarter I said, “they not winning”

Sarcasm 360

I’ve been screaming for Schroeder since you mentioned him last time - it makes so much sense - Melton salary matches - but probably going to take Podz and a pick too I’d imagine

G 2tha P

I’m tired man, all I want is Podz to focus more on the style he played as a rookie, continue encouraging Kuminga to get offensive boards so he and Podz can be terrors on that side, and a trade for Schroeder atp

Sarcasm 360

Has anyone else noticed almost everyone has gone back to being almost hesitant to shoot and are over passing again? Early in the year the ball was hopping and if Looney found himself open for a middy he took it no hesitation so the flow of the offense was consistent and smooth. Now Looney is back to not even looking at the rim and looking for a handoff

KuraiT

It looks like they wanted to use Wiggins more with the second unit to make up for Kuminga’s absence, but they didn’t involve him enough in set plays. Instead, they relied too much on Podz running the PnR. They should have brought TJD in and run more handoff PnR actions with Wiggins, especially since he’s been playing well as of late, to better utilize his skill set. Maybe Wiggins needed to demand the ball more, but that’s never been his personality. It was on Kerr to call and push for those plays—he should know better.

Quasar

When steph and dray start games like this against good teams it ends up like the game vs the Cavs

Diego

Are you sure the Nets want any of our players after that showing?

boca

Podz for Schroder? If you think bidding is gonna run up his trade value. Im not sure we would need include him but he would essencialy be replacing podz either way if we do get him. Also I think Kuminga is a lot more important than people think. He was running that second unit the last couple of games and when you have him an Buddy on the bench if one has a off night the other makes up for it. He has also been playing defence and rebounding as of late.

Diego

Honestly even if we won this game, I wouldn’t have been satisfied because over the past week we’ve had low focus and awful effort and execution. I get that these aren’t contending teams but we’re relying on alot of young guys and players who’ve never contended to expect them to just turn it on or off. Ive heard alot of talk about Steph getting ring 5, well the leadership we see over the year from Steph, Steve, and Draymond might be the main factor deciding if that’s a real possibility or not. Talent and experience wise I don’t see anyone in the west that there’s a clear gap

Offtopic K

What is Podz doing on the court to close?

BruceWayne

Lindy got to get stronger but look at the bounce on that shot tho

Athletic Alchemy

I alluded to the spurs game looking like the 2023 warriors, but here it is in full, a last season warriors reappearance if the spurs wasn’t clear enough, yeah nobody was cold everyone played ok, but there were clearly hotter players that you didn’t capitalize on. Moody had 15 points first half, second half Kerr doesn’t even let mans get warm again at all with FOUR SECOND HALF MINUTES, man fuck this. Is it this hard for an “offensive minded coach” to see who’s hot and cater some sets to maximize that? I mean think about last seasons blown lead losses, was there one player you could actually blame? No it’s always Kerr sitting the hotter hand guys for too long, no matter who they are game to game, until the lead is gone. I said at the beginning of the season, these young guys have evolved and it’s Kerr who hasn’t. At what point is it obvious that a guy who says “combinations” and “flow” so much just doesn’t WANT it to be Moody or Kuminga? He does not want any other strategy but what he personally considers to be his own to work and the 4th year guys aren’t in that image. In other news, vintage pods game of y’all ain’t notice, get back to charges rebounds and passing, fuck all that 8-10 threes shit, keep your focus on what you’re good at and let the rest be a bonus. He ain’t deserve to close though because he was right in the mix while that lead dwindled and it’s partly what I’m alluding to. He will not die on the Kuminga or Moody sword, but has no problem with the Pods sword, or the 3 guard lineup sword? Is it really about combinations, or is it about your ego and what you want to work? Don’t let Kerr turn checkers into chess people. I really got fooled into thinking I was done with rants like this from last season.

Sarcasm 360

so long strength in numbers. trade for dennis plss

Dami I

Maaaaan, if Lindy Waters can’t manage to box out Zaire Williams, who weighs a whopping 105 pounds (with a bulletproof vest on) then we really are in trouble.
