Warriors vs Suns GM-19 Hybrid Breakdown

Comments

I came down from Canada for work here, so my dad and I mostly just rely on VPN/remotely watching the TV network we got from there. Other than occasional black out for Raptors games the coverage was pretty good. Not really following the Suns closely

Carol Huang

sounds like similar seats I was 123 roe 15.. let me ask you how do you watch local Suns games?

Athletic Alchemy

IDK.. I think it magnified it for sure

Athletic Alchemy

Bro how do you watch Suns games locally!?

Athletic Alchemy

I think Slo mo just needs more min with steph and buddy put him in space and he will carve up teams

Athletic Alchemy

I do think Steph is the type to be too good a solider and not speak up enough

Athletic Alchemy

thats what I got!

Athletic Alchemy

Podz his issues but he is objectively a better defender than Mood

Athletic Alchemy

You dog moody my guy but podz is very bad defensively as well from what I’m seeing, watched us lose 5 in a row after again having a lead in the 4th. 🥲

Rudraansh Shaunak

I think it only makes sense to trade for either a cam Johnson or a Kyle Kuzma. It’s hard to trade moody with his contract without giving up a whole lot of depth. To get Cam or Kyle you would need to trade Melton, Kuminga, podz and Gui. You do this so you can sign 3 players back to the roster on minimum contracts cause we need to have 14 on our roster and so that you can avoid including any pics

Cullen Vaughn

Is there a way we could get brogdon or valanciunas thrown in the kuzma deal? Would obviously have to give more up but could use both of them really

Kurtis Forge

I don’t mind the funky rotations but we can’t play the same style with those bad shooting lineups. If we don’t have enough shooters then we should play as big as we can and pound the paint, draw fouls, foul, and muck it up. But that requires not turning it over and making free throws so…. Shit.

Grizzly Thief

He does. Watch the film and see how many points come just from his gravity. Almost every back cut or fake DH layup comes from him. He’s responsible for 40 pts per game.

Grizzly Thief

I believe they can be with another legit second option and one or two rotational players like Melton was. The West is a blood bath and we had zero margin for error before Melton's injury.

Alex Kay

Yeah Alch! Fanspo will lead you to believe that Moody can’t be traded lol. He definitely can. I know he’s a nice guy and all but, I can’t think of another player that, needs a trade more than him.

Kd127

We don’t need our draft picks - you know why? Cause we can’t draft worth shit anyways. Sorry

Ryan Mitchell

Kuminga and Melton for Cam Johnson, Moody and Gui for literally any 7 footer or another POA defender. I also believe we need someone in the thompson twins archetype, I know it’s silly but in 2k once you play teams like the thunder and wolves you realize how un athletic we are compared to these young squads.

Brad30

appreciate those phone clips. They looked really good.

tobi to the world

Steph needs to fake an injury and take 2 months off or smth.

Vulacior

You know maybe Lacob needbto tell Kerr take a 5 game back injury absence and let's wmsee what Terry and Stack can do with this team to inject creativity. It seems we just sleep walking as everyone already study us so much they know what we going to do before our own new players can identify what to do.

Dale Happy Knowles

They are being coached to drive and kick because we dont have many above the rim players. 2 maybe 3 if we add light Wiggs

Dale Happy Knowles

And we will not have any after the upcoming draft also because Kerr don't developed players or adjust his systems to maximize the potential of the talent he has. Consider what he is playing today worked when on GSW perfected it. Now every team has adopted that system and most younger and faster than us. Consider at the beginning we came out the gate firing on all cylinders. Now other teams are but it's not doom or gloom for me. They still have to weather 60 odd more games at this pace. We know how to do that if Kerr hold his head

Dale Happy Knowles

Are we really sure our core can be a championship core once again? I feel like its not enough to strenghten the peaces around Curry, he must be better too. We can talk trades all we want, it wont help if the core is not enough.

Andreas Wiedemann

I’m sorry we need Claxtons defence and rim protection, we’re constantly having to overcompensate on the interior because we can’t defend the rim, if we have claxton we don’t have to worry anymore and can finally not be in constant rotation because of this overcompensating

Aben

I want Dennis Schroeder

Gregory Walker

I definitely agree with the whole being ready to give up any of the young guys at this point

Teo

You should try YouTubeTV for the NBA games

Chrisjordanfit

Bruh the collapsing all 5 in the paint has been driving me insane for years now. I really thought stax fixed that shit and seeing it come back has been so frustrating lol

Connor H

I agree that its time to take a mortgage out on the future and move some guys and draft capital for vet talent that can move the needle on the Dubs chances for this year and next. if we are lucky Steph's 26-27 farewell tour has some goodwill left but its obvious he is already slowing down physically and the mental lapses are more frequent. He will still put up some transcendent performances but the consistency and availability over an 82 game plus playoffs season is just not going to be there. I've never liked Kuzma but I do agree that in this instance he can add a weapon we sorely need. Add a rim running big and a solid backup point guard and we can make some noise this year. I would love Schroeder to fill the hole that Melton left.

Michael E

I know things are rough for the Warriors...but is anyone watching this Bills vs 49ers game...at least we aren't as bad as they are

Irvin Mugo

Alc could it be Steph is frustrated with Kerr handling of the rotations? Remember with a much worse team Steph was still trying to ball. I don't think he is giving the effort because he knows the way Kerr is forcing his style and, he is not going to get the help other than Wiggs and Buddy. Buddy is his mirror not his Robyn. I think Kerr need to start to design games to maximize JK or Moody since they paid him and everyone else game adapt around them. We know Steph can play all styles so that will not hurt him. In fact it likely will help him by maximizing the team production. Sad part is I believe Kerr has lost JK little bit of trust gained from last year and he is playing not to get hurt versus beasting out. Yes the spacing don't suit JK game but he had less spacing last year and still was extremely effective. Imagine you know you are light years more athletic and baby Gannis greater like than me and our Coach preach to the world I am his Jason Kidd' clone and no questions asked he is not trading me. Then this year comes after you worked your ass off demonstrating your significant improvement which Coach asked you to do only for him to relegate you to the bench in your contract year and put me in the starting lineup even though I can't even shoot average and hurting the team. How long would you be turned in. A ¼ of the season gone. I know GSW don't want to pay JK so it's criminal not to give him the full support or trade him Moody needs minutes to get his groove on. If you not going to give him such then trade him because Steph ain't going no where before he get in the 40s. He has to out play LeBron or he will just be a side note. If JK and Moody don't fit Kerr narrative I would trade both for a 25 plus a night Robyn for Steph as Wiggs ain't going to hold up with no other support. 2 years of sitting will catch up with him. I believe Steph missing Klay big time. JK and Moody would look good on the Nets or Cavaliers. Isaac Okoro, Jarrett Allen or Cam Thomas would be intriquing.

Dale Happy Knowles

I don’t believe this is a championship team - that the core can overcome the overall team deficits - I am ready to let go of my chase for 5 - the poor drafting is the bill that is coming due and I am not willing to sell future assets to make up for past failures. Let Dunleavy have a chance to draft lottery talent - build organically

Jello Smooth

Leaving aside the fact that I don't come here to argue with you, I'll bite: the rotation I WOULDN'T use is the Forest Gump Box of Chocolates approach that Kerr seems to be favoring. Moody has proven he needs a serious stretch of minutes to be an effective scorer. So does JK. Most players need time to find a rhythm in a game. And as Alch pointed out, JK needs to be surrounded by perimeter scoring threats. Right now, that's Dray, Steph, Wiggins, Buddy, and hopefully, Lindy. Reduce GP2 and Podz minutes, maybe even send Podz to the G-League to get over his slump and find his shot as others have suggested. Use Slomo as Dray's substitution if he needs rest or isn't playing well. Use TJD or Looney as needed for particular matchups or situations. So that's basically 8-9 man rotation, 10 at maximum. See if Moody and Kuminga start showing improvement in their production with both playing at least 20 min. a night -- even if we trade them, that will at least improve their confidence and trade value.

Neal X

I mean, I didn't say that. But I'd like to think someone making 55m should produce more than 22 points a game.

Savino

Huh? I haven’t said anything about rotations or playing Steph more. I DO think that they need to play Podz, JK & Moody for consistent significant minutes. I’m not saying that because I’m some basketball savant. It’s a decision THEY implicitly made this summer. To *not* play them now is just shooting yourself in the foot.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

!!!! 1000% facts. I think it’s clearer than ever that Steph will never be a 82-game superhero ever again. Maybe a 16-game closer. But we need to change the system from the top down

yan't get right

Big agree.

John Pettus

I make fun of everybody who says the word "rotations" and doesn't specifically say what they would change and who should play with whom. I also rightly make fun of everybody whose solution is "just play Steph more". So - my question to you guys is: what lineup would solve these problems you're claiming? Finish your argument.

John Pettus

If your answer to everything is "play Steph more" even in freaking November, then you have no answers.

John Pettus

I think each of the young guys has real flaws and limitations. But if I was Joe Lacob, I’d have a hard time accepting that it’s just bad luck that all of them are suddenly trash. We can’t keep blaming Bob Myers.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Feels like half our roster trade value has tanked

richard phan

It’s like we’re running the awful Gobert-era Jazz “funneling” defense scheme except without Rudy Gobert.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Buddy uses the screen but when he gets running he doesn’t want to shoot middy and just passes out again. It just waste of time

Natto Santo

I have been the biggest supporter for Lindy but I have enough. Lindy also disappointed me. He passing up to draymond for shooting a 3. Lindy seems to have no pride in his shooting. Very disappointing

Natto Santo

Good details on the suckage! JK lack of focused, professional warmup session speaks volumes about him, past/present/future! F’ed up! Downside of doing a solid Vuc deal? I don’t see it. Downside of going after long 2-way 2 guard now that Melton is out? Podz/Moody/Waters/GPII ain’t it, and Buddy isn’t a heavy minutes starter anymore, targeted on D. DDV? DMurray? 1way JPoole return? Where would Kuzma fit in lineup? Instead of JK or Wiggs?

Chip Tingle

What's garbled is the team, not my thinking, though my comment may have seemed contradictory, I understand what you're saying. We either need to move off the guys who can't stay in front of people in a simple man-to-man scheme, OR they stay with consistent rotations that allow chemistry, coordination, and communication between players to build so they can make a more complicated defensive scheme work. They are doing neither so far, and it's about time they figured out what they want to do. Kerr throwing out these lineups that feel like they were created by throwing darts at a board with player mugshots on them has to stop. He doesn't seem to get the simple fact that the motion offense of days past only worked because Steph was a God; he was the keystone of the whole system, and he can't be that anymore.

Neal X

Exactly. The time to have said, “Fuck JK” was in January/Feb when the whole league was saying his name. The time to have said, “Fuck Podz” was this summer when every GM was calling. The time to have said “Fuck Moody” was before you gave him a $13mn a year contract. Now it’s madness to debate whether or not to give them real minutes. You’ve already made that decision.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Yeah it's really hard to admit it, but basically all the younger guys have shown themselves to have lower ceilings that we would have liked. Even Lindy is proving why OKC didn't have him high in the rotation and was fine with trading him, though he's the guy I have the highest hopes for still.

Neal X

Yup. We can't just wave a magic wand and go "trade everyone but Steph". We have to sink or swim with some of these guys, like it or not. Coaching staff needs to step up, review tape, work on what needs to be worked on. Hard.

Neal X

This is true. I do think half the reason they are struggling is because they're being put in trash rotations and asked to do the impossible.

Neal X

I know Kerr is never getting fired, but dude unironically rolled out a lineup of Buddy - Pat - Lindy - Draymond - Kevon. Like how are any of those players supposed to succeed when put in this situation?? And at the risk of sounding blasphemous, but Steph needs to step it up or sit down if he's hurt. Highest paid player in the league needs to do better than 22PPG.

Savino

It's the coaching. If you want Kuminga to reach his ceiling, he needs 30+ minutes a night. Moody is the same, he's in funk now, but he has to play enough minutes to actually learn what works. TJD needs more minutes - he's productive when he plays (17/11/4 per36) but doesn't fit with Draymond. Podz is struggling but at least he's getting the opportunity to play through it. Young guys need consistent run to get better. That's the secret to all those guys who were drafted around the same positions and are now productive: they didn't have Kerr. They got the playing time they needed. The trap we're in is that we've got 2 old guys that need extremely specialized help around them and those matching puzzle pieces are impossible to get with the new CBA. Melton unlocked Steph, but now he's gone. It seems like it's time to either actually commit to the playing young or trade them - and I don't think we get equal value back trading now. The controversial move is Dray. He's playing relatively well (when he decides to show up). He'd be a positive asset for a playoff team that does have the complementary pieces (not us). He's got a big enough salary that we could bring back a real 3+D wing to fill the Melton role. Without Dray, we can give Kuminga and TJD actual run, sink or swim.

Mike Peterson

I hear everybody re trading these young guys - but they’ve all performed much better in the past than they are now. You can’t win if you keep running assets into the ground. I don’t see a realistic world where we get back anything of value in a trade unless Podz, JK &/or Moody bounce back to some level of competence.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

IMHO, the most high leverage change this team can make is to improve Kuminga & Moody’s POA defense. Every assistant coach should be focused on that. It’s not good enough to say, “if Moses can’t figure it out, I’ll bench him and put in .” The team NEEDS JK & Moody to figure it out. It’s too important to leave it up to the players alone. So many good things flow from just slightly more fundamentally sound POA defense. In the long run, getting a few good minutes out of Pat Spencer or Lindy Waters doesn’t move the needle. But fixing Moody & Kuminga’s clearly identifiable issues would transform this team.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

The problem is getting a player that is capable of being a second engine who fits with this style of play. KD basically told us that scorers don't like the motion offense being the main focus because they don't get in a rhythm. When Steph is top 5 it doesn't matter but when he is not then the whole thing falls apart. You can't get BI because he won't fit with all the ball movement but what elite NBA scorer isn't a ball stopper compared to what Steve wants? This is tricky because either you change the system to allow for more mismatch hunting or you stick with ball movement and your scorers stay out of rhythm or you dumb down the system. I personally think Steph is great enough to adapt but it's too much asking everyone else to adapt to the system if Steph can't carry it.

Jordan Smith

Its funny you say BI because he was the first guy to come to mind. Him and Lavine are the only ones available… that also “could” fit. BI doesnt like the three but he is capable. His competitive spirit is low but so was Wiggins before 2022. We desperately need someone who can come off pindowns.. and create offense for themselves. Bi.. Lavine.. Powell.. Kuz.. are the only guys sort of capable of doing that within our offense. Hopefully a better option becomes available as we get closer to the deadline….

Ballin Forever

Always appreciate the context Alch. As we know Basketball is a rhythm sport. When they had it, the pieces looked to fit much better and now that they are out of rhythm, it's justified to make adjustments to the rotation. I'm not pessimistic because I never saw this team as championship caliber. The goal is to make the playoffs in a Very stacked Western Conference and I feel their start afforded them the chance to complete for a top 6 seed even while they may struggle at times. Hopefully Steph can overcome the tendinitis but having personal experience with it this may be what ends his prime ability. Hoping for the best.

Nos Dollas

Jordan Smith

Finally unc you saying what’s needed to be said. I’ve been getting flamed for saying things about our young guys for years on here lol

Ravi Dissanayake

I just got tickets to the Nuggs game this morning. At this point it's more to see Jokic dominate than to watch this dubs team.

Jordan Smith

We need to stop this thing where the primary defender positions like they are hedging and gives up the straight line drive to the hoop. WTF was that?

John Pettus

I'm sorry, but this is garbled thinking. It's not "stick to basics" when the situation is that we DON'T have athletic enough players to stay in front of their man. Either you get different talent and play guys more straight up, OR you have to scheme up the best way to help if your guys are going to get beat a lot. In the short term, you scheme around the talent you have. We need to stop this thing where the primary defender positions like they are hedging and gives up the straight line drive to the hoop. WTF was that?

John Pettus

You need a secure ball handler to run the second unit. It's him or Pat Spencer, it looks like.

John Pettus

The pelicans played Murphy though, who knows if this franchise gets that same player

Sarcasm 360

We’ve been on the trade train for a while, but will the front office do what is needed

Sarcasm 360

Hard to win when NONE of our young guys have improved over last year. Not Podz, TJD, Mood or (especially) JK. JK is just not a serious basketball player, man. What you said about him not being focused during warmups was disappointing, but makes sense.

John Pettus

Question for you alch - it seems like Slow-mo can be a very strong player; maybe vs the right teams or maybe in the right lineup? What do you think is the key to unlocking his potential or when to use him? Because yeah we can shrink the number of players who play but it seems like it would be a waste to not figure out how to use a player with that ability.

B Master

You cursing the old heads with this breakdown Alch. Watch podz jk and mood go off against Denver now

Daniel Fries

Nice seats Alch. Footprint center is hella nice. I’m an AZ guy too. Go dubnation.

Anthony Hernandez

Glad we're finally on the same page with Podz. He's not an issue... as long as Kerr allows him to play his role and doesn't over-utilize him. 30 min of Draymond - DPoY tendencies is wild

Anthony English

I have to assume serious trainers know this but active release therapy (https://activerelease.com/) is an excellent and fast-acting treatment for tendonitus.

B Master

I've always been suspect of Podz snake bite release. He also brings the ball up a little low for my taste. That might have worked in college because of the quality of the defenders he played against and the slower speed of the game. However, flayed mechanics get exposed in the NBA. Regarding Moody, I don't get why they extended him if he is not going to play. What hurts more is that TMIII was there at #14 when we took Mood. Imagine if we had gone that route instead. Floor spacing problem solved. Oh, well, it is what is. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Eddie757

Kerr is always scheming and trying new stuff…i think this team needs stability and focus…Get people in rythms….Good execution comes from that and confidence and yea,Get Ingram….

ntare rugamba

Ah man, I'm gonna miss Kuminga. Warriors fans are overreacting, even though we are 4th in the west. I get we are on a losing streak, but the second half looked way better. And despite a couple issues, the main problem was that we missed a lot of shots. Open ones too. Guys just need to get into a rhythm, but I wouldn't go as far as saying the sky is falling.

Irvin Mugo

You mentioned Curry's negative body language. I think that is what's happening with Moody too. He played well in the pre season and signed an extension. In his head, he probably thought he would be more important and get more minutes. But the same thing happens. He can't work out his flaws and will never be allowed to. I hate to pile on Podziemski. But he can Ben Simmon's layups and get lost on the perimeter 50 times a game and stay in. Moody isn't allowed any mistakes.

Goku44

Sorry you had to watch that trash game in person:s

Saad Atiq

KYP should apply to the Warriors coaching staff. Stop asking them to over help in the paint. Stop making Kuminga take 6 3s a game. Stop putting Kuminga on the floor with non shooters who will crowd the paint. Stop over relying on Podziemski cause Kerr thinks he's his son.

Goku44

Possibly they're waiting for Steph to bail them out in the 4th quarter with a flurry -- sorry guys, that may not happen at all this season the way this is looking.

Neal X

I'm good off the youth at this point. Kuminga and Moody had plenty of time to improve, its time to stop making excuses for them. Especially when Kuminga's just lazing around not taking the game seriously in warmups like Alch said. Man that's infuriating

Andrew Lee

yeap.. Kuminga’s lack of college experience shows alot… BPOD is just going through a sophomore slump imo… and idk wth Moody is out there doing. His defensive angles are horrid. Im willing to bait on all of them for some vets right now and just hit the reset button after Steph and Dray retires. All of these young players are easily replaceable and are in every draft.

Ballin Forever

Hate to say it, but a lot of the young guys still look like rookies right now. The new NBA is welcoming them to the league each night and it's not looking pretty.

Neal X

I just hate how many minutes Podz been getting. Like its wild

james moore

Unc! You think you have this realization if didn’t go to the game? Or has this been brewing in your mind and seeing it in person lit the fuse

Ben D

I never quite bought into the early season hype from this team, I suspected we would have a ceiling that wouldn't get us over the top against the better teams, and that's become very true. This roster has serious limitations, either talented but old and slow, or young and limited. Changes need to be made both in the roster and the coaching and I hate to say it, but I'm getting to be pessimistic that Kerr understands what he's doing wrong with these guys. Is there nobody on his staff that doesn't like the overhelping shit that makes me absolutely want to turn the game off whenever I see it? I see it's overcomplicating the defense and confusing and distracting the players. How about stick to the basics -- like sticking to your man on the perimeter, and having players athletic enough to actually stay in front of people.

Neal X

Didn't think losing Melton for the year would cause so much trouble so quickly, but here we are.

Nick Elliston

Great breakdown Uncle Alch! From watching on TV-it’s super disappointing to see the lousy effort level, the ridiculous angles the Dubs take on defense and the constant over helping because-#1: they aren’t big or athletic enough! #2: JK has regressed -he looks worse than last year. 3: time for mass trades-there’s nothing special here. I and many fans are so tired of players who do the “little” things but can’t do the big things like score and defend.

Paul Hanson

That happens to me when the dubs play the clippers and lakers. Pisses me off

Mikel anthony

We’re cooked unless some moves are made.

Mitch Coob

As far as Kuminga.. what I see is him trying to beat guys off the dribble and trying to finish over guys who are just as athletic as him. He needs to take a page out of JRandle's book and learn how to attack the body first. Kuminga is stronger than he realizes. But he tries to outjump everyone. Its like that athletic kid who dont realize that there our other athletes on the floor. He still looks like a rookie in that aspect.

Ballin Forever

Was at the game as well, sitting at section 113 row 13. Yeah it's frustrating to see them not try until it's way too late, and reverting back to old habits so quickly into this year. Was thinking to try and catch all the warriors game in Phoenix while Steph is still good, but now I don't know anything, haven't actually been to a game where they won lol

Carol Huang

Dunleavy must be working the phones right now. Anybody but Steph.

Frank Ravizza

I got tickets to the Denver game and I am worried its going to be similar to this game. Denver playing better and our squad looking like ass. Just hoping steph catches a rhythm

Matt Hanna

Absolutely loved the 1/2 half of the video.

e40

Now more than ever.. we simply need a 2nd engine. Steph as the sole engine is no longer doable. Every good team in the league has 2 engines.. some even 3. I know Steph minutes are relatively low.. but when he is playing, every play is running through him. He is rarely the decoy... and thats just not sustainable. When Bron was 36... he had/has AD he could rely on for 25-30 a night. Durant has Booker AND Beal. I think at Steph's age... when he thinks about the next game... he knows that he cant really rely on anyone to carry the load and that is a tiring feeling for a 36 yr old. Now that teams are starting to adjust to our actions.. its only going to get tougher. A deal has to come sooner rather than later.

Ballin Forever

How many people recognized you at the arena?

e40

seated for this one!

tobi to the world

Ive been saying it , TJD doesn't know Steph . He doesn't screen enough or well. I think it leads to Steph starting slow . Looney could get him better looks !

Lucky D

Looked like half our guys weren't trying tonight, shame
