Kerr needs to play podz and GP2 less, play moody and JK more. Stop with these weird lineups. We aren’t 12 deep, we need continuity.

I’m seeing a lot of contending teams use their young players and even rookies in closing line ups (suns, dallas, denver) and using them effectively while we are not able to, is it that we’ve drafted and developed poorly and our players are that bad or is it that we just don’t know how to use them effectively in our rotations and lineups?

I’m mostly kidding re Podz. I think they had a good plan for him. Lead second unit, and get occasional starter experience during inevitable Melton injuries. But a season ending injury in November was more than they were bargaining for.
I’m convinced he ruined Lindy Waters though lol.

Agreed. One interesting thing I theorize about podz shot is that all the work on his midrange game this summer messed it up. His shot is clearly not as fluid as it was in college if you go back and watch the tape. I think it’s because the midrange is almost different form. The set point looks higher(obviously so he can get it off as a small guard) plus like you talk about it seems as if he wants to get up to the peak of his jump before releasing the ball. I bet this alone is enough to disrupt the rhythm of his 3pter plus I’d does look like he changed his 3 ball form as well. You should go back and look at his college form again - looks smoother

Even with the mistakes from Podz and 4th qtr collapse, I was encouraged by a lotta good things happening, especially from Jk, earlier Podz, and later Moody. To be without Dray and up to close it wasn’t on my radar.
JK middy game is there most any time he wants. More of this plus raising FT% by 10-15% could get him closer to the money he wants.
Was that the most actual jumpers we’ve seen from BP? Very positive news for his versatility and good hops.
Happy for Mo, and betting he gets more blocks of predictable minutes.
Tough collapse, but so many good things happening!

def starting to feel a lot like last year. fast start, then a series of games playing just good enough to lose close. losing Melton seems to be the x factor between playing like a contender and mediocre. we need that vet that can play both guard positions, with solid d and can hit the three. i'm still bullish on coppin' d schroeder if possible.

Yeah I'm basically standing by my takes on the last vid and game. Why are starting a guard who can't hit 3's when we have one of the best 3pt shooters in the league riding the bench? Podz can get over his slump in the G-league and come back when/if he does (or bench him). Until we make a trade, give Moody and JK 30 min. a night to get the best out of them that we can. We came close to winning this one even despite all of the mistakes and rotation confusion.

1. Kerr doesn't have feel of who to put in and when. It's too much depth and he doesn't even have combinations yet.
2. Knew it even when they were winning early, once u take away Steph (or he gets injured) we can't score and we lose. No one else on the roster can consistently create their own and until they get 1, we ain't challenging for anything.
3. We are better than last yr, but same prob. Young guys who learning their game, and in the clutch doesn't match Currys window. We have too many young guys we depending on regularly. We got drop 1 or 2 and get a 2nd scorer

Two thoughts. First, it is absolutely insane that moody hasn’t had a trainer or someone in his camp make him work on taking at least some of the dip out of his shot. Idk, maybe he has tried and just hasn’t made any progress but goddamn bro it turns clean looks into contested shots and he is still shooting near 40%.
Second, can we just see kuminga play 35 minutes. Please Steve, is it too much to ask when Draymond is out and we know JK plays well against the nuggets
Mason Hornick
2024-12-04 23:14:59 +0000 UTC
Yeah, but this is at least the third time we’re going thru this.
In Dec ‘22, Steph & Wiggins were out, JK got real responsibility, showed out and everyone lost their minds. Then the starters got healthy, JK’s role got weird again and we all went back to debating whether he can play basketball.
In January, Dray got injured (suspended?) and JK got real run. He went on a tear and the whole league noticed. Dray came back, JK lost his role and soon enough we were back to acting as if we’ve never seen him play well.
If Dray’s calf/back keeps him out for a while, all that’s gonna happen is this: JK will play well enough for long enough to make mgmt gun shy at the trade deadline. Then Draymond will come back, JK will lose his role and we’ll all go back to saying JK has only shown “flashes”.

Can you explain the Jamal Murray decline. He was looking like a superstar the year immediately after the ACL tear, averaging 26ppg in the playoffs for Denver's first championship. Now only 1.5 years later at age 27, he is averaging 18 ppg on 40/33/80 splits, which are 6th man numbers at best. How could he decline so quickly at a young age. Do you think he isn't taking care of his body in regards to his training regimen and diet?

I think we talk a lot about breaking the motion offense system, but Podz to me is the only primary-ballhandler we have that can run an offense that isn't that. He will need reps if we really want a world after Steph. Steph and Draymond are beyond brainwashed with the offense at this point to learn new things. And most of the criticism Podz is taking is from people that still believe he's supposed to be a spot up shooter in that same exact tired motion offense. I agree that he should take the ones he gets, but he's so much more like a mini-Harden. And we watched Harden try to play in the corner last year while Russ was the PG and it looked awful. Now he's back to playing Hardenball and it works. We should try to incorporate that to mix it up. Maximizes Podz but also gives us a different look

Again, not a great game but a couple fewer turnovers, a couple less fouls and made free-throws wins the game. I understand the calls sucked but there are very very simple ways to win games and none of them are necessarily rotations. The lowest hanging fruit here are still the fundamentals: better passes, ball security, free-throws, execution.

There is no one to hold them accountable to though. It's coming from the league, they have to keep Jokic and the Nuggets marketable, on top of that it's a cup game so it's twice as bad.
They hand out fines because they don't want players and coaches pointing out their hidden agendas.

The refereeing was horrendous, but the fact that it was still ANOTHER close game that we seemingly are always bound to throw away will be the most frustrating part. The only way you let the refereeing matter is doing dumbshit in crucial moments. Yeah Im looking at you Podz.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion that people will disregard, but I am truly getting SICK of TJD. Yes his defense is helpful every NOW AND THEN. But offensively, Im starting to hate him with every additional minute that he plays. Ever since you pointed it out Alch, it boils my blood that this guy has been in the gym with Loon for two seasons now and he HAS NEVER USED A PUMP FAKE IN HIS LIFE. But the goddamn two hand-two foot finishing is pissing me off more and more. How did you grow up being the tallest man on the court your whole life, and never learned to finish a layup with one hand???? A one handed contested dunk?? Nope. Not happening. Looney will still piss all of us off every now and then because of his crab dribbles and pump fakes, but he gets a pass cuz because of his lack of athleticism. TJD can jump out of the goddamn gym. What the fuck is he not doing rising up and finishing a dunk? WHY DOES HE DO LAYUPS WITH TWO HANDS. That is middle school shit.
Podz actually started off with a pretty good game. So the fact that he ended the game the way he did really just throws all that away.
The nuggets without Jokic is a borderline lottery team. And we still were struggling with them.
Wiggins might be the most consistent 3pt shooter on our team right now. Think about that. Thats how bad our 3pt shooting is right now.
Fuck me for thinking I could avoid watching the Niners and distract myself with the Warriors. That lasted all of 15 games.
Its an absolute shame Kittle, Trent, and CMC wont ever get a ring. And its just sad as fuck that we are gonna throw away the final year of one of the greatest players ever in Steph.

IKR, preaching to the choir.
The team is more fun without Dray. Him not starting means we can actually play a balanced lineup. Kuminga and Steph can play off each other, creating advantages and rotations and Wiggs is an excellent play-finisher once the advantage is there (Mo is also good in that role). And the JK/Steph chemistry is only just starting to build!
Dray is a better fit for the bench unit, in an Andre role. Have him force-feed Buddy and muck it up on defense. But Kerr would never do that; Dray's ego is even bigger than Klay's.

Haven't commented in a bit love the content alc but i gotta say, Podz is very frustrating to watch. I was hearing all offseason from the team was that he was working on the 3 ball and they wanted him shooting what 9 threes a game?!? Now on earth he is shooting like 20% and the shots miss the rim. It doesn't look good I am beginning to lose faith in the dude. He is not shooting good, he is not making smart plays, and he is throwing in crunch time IE poor defensive choices. Like most people I think they need to make a move. A big man and a guard preferably.

Total ref job. Letting Christian Braun roll around like an Australian breakdancer AND then no tech for the phantom TO was just the topper.
I loved how the young guys looked without Dray. Addition by subtraction.
Dray is a ball stopper, but he doesn't get that rep because he stops the ball but doesn't shoot. He just sits there, staring down Steph until he comes around a curl. He holds it as long as Randle or any of those muppets.

If Draymond is out and JK is playing PF, why aren't we utilizing more high ball screens for Steph with JK as the screen setter? The inability to try new concepts is baffling to me. At this stage of Steph's career, the two-man game needs to be between Steph and JK even when Draymond returns.
