Crazy video idea - need feedback
Added 2021-11-03 16:14:39 +0000 UTCSo I have an idea for a video but want to get yβalls feedback
Basically I want to buy every brand / bottle of resin on Amazon π³
Then do a massive video showing off how it printed.
There are so many brands / options now and I typically print with Siraya tech Fast and Elegoo resins but want to expand and see what else I can find that might work well.
What do you think?
I figure it could make for a fun video + would give me the opportunity to expand on some of the resin settings here π

Not sure if it's on amazon but Monocure3d is big over in Aus

2022-03-27 12:49:21 +0000 UTCI thought about doing the exact same thing but how diverse will it be from resin to resin? It might get boring in a hurry. If you sorted the final conclusions by worst to best, and grouped a lot of the similar results together, you could keep it short enough to watch but it is still going to take you forever to produce.

2022-01-15 11:48:39 +0000 UTCSounds like a good idea. As a newcomer in resin printing, it's this type of contents I'm looking for. As an Anycubic mono x user, I wonder how works other reside brand works with it and If it's worth to use Siraya Tech, eSUN RΓ©sine, Anycubic Plant-based, Anycubic craftsman resin . I'm looking for to know first about the smells during printing, and how worth it to put more compare prince and result . Thanks for all your research !

2021-11-16 22:47:09 +0000 UTCCould you do a video/post about how you support large masks? You's look so uniform and clean. I know you get failures but I don't get ANY successes...lol

2021-11-14 17:30:17 +0000 UTCI'm new to resin printing, so any info would be great! Haven't even gotten the test cube to print right on my Mono X.

2021-11-08 17:57:47 +0000 UTCThat would be an incredibly helpful video. I found Siraya Tech's profiles over the weekend for my Saturns and your profiles when I joined here just now. My prints are going to be better than ever.

2021-11-08 16:27:26 +0000 UTCPLEASE DO! That would be amazing. This would allow you to get the settings for each dialed in and share that with us :)

2021-11-08 03:39:55 +0000 UTCsounds like a good idea. expensive, but good. Nice to know what brands are good, and which to steer clear of.

2021-11-08 00:13:29 +0000 UTCThe idea is great. The problem might however be that not every resin will work in every printer so you might have to test every resin in every printer you have.

2021-11-05 09:51:49 +0000 UTCAgree totally with him- I would pay for this data if you can pull it all together. It's a lot of work and like he said - if done right - you should capture all of the settings to include room temp, humidity and print settings. Also like he said - I would be willing to help

2021-11-04 14:13:54 +0000 UTCLike the 3D Industry overall, Resins are changing often. Resin Manufacturers and Chemists are constantly testing and updating formulas for the latest 'optimum effect' What you test on one day - maybe and likely to be an improved upon formula 3 - 6 months later. A great example of this is the addition of Siraya Tech Tenacious Resin, what a difference that 9:1 ratio made in with my other resins. I am really new at this and I purchased every brand of Resin I could find (still buying when I find them) and just have spent the past couple of months experimenting, learning and understanding. Uncle Jess - you have provided us with lots of great content. I think this video idea is a good one - especially if you can publish your findings on settings and supports with each brand. My only push back is to make sure your listeners understand how fast our industry is moving and the Chemists working on Resins are working just as hard to bring us more innovation. Thank you for all that you do!!

2021-11-04 14:05:33 +0000 UTCHave you considered the AmeraLabs Town test print? Covers lots of bases with a single print. Fairly quick to run, no supports required. Although, it is a little boring to show off.

2021-11-04 01:44:36 +0000 UTCLove the idea. Perhaps you could reach out the various suppliers and have them donate some sample resin for testing. I would think most of the large players will jump, the smaller ones maybe not. It would be a statement in their confidence of the quality of their resin.

2021-11-04 01:39:35 +0000 UTCThis sounds great I would love to see rich-Opto Purple resin tested. I purchased but have not used since have not found Saturn settings for it.

2021-11-03 23:43:13 +0000 UTCGreat idea and would serve as an excellent recommendations for buyers but also give feedback to resin manufacturers on how to improve their products.

2021-11-03 22:13:39 +0000 UTCReally good idea! I am also in the middle of putting together an izod brittleness tester. Would be cool to test some resins out. π¬

2021-11-03 22:01:03 +0000 UTCThis would be awesome to test the difference I know I always wondered about some of those other lesser known brands that you see on Amazon.

2021-11-03 21:41:25 +0000 UTCYeah I think this is a great idea, I think a supplement that could go with it (provided by manufacturers or community) would be resin profiles that users can load into their slicers (Lychee or Chitubox, etc). "Oh, I want to mess around with this new AnyCubic resin, let me just load the profile up from Uncle Jessy's library he's been collecting." A lot of work but I bet you could get the community in on it.

2021-11-03 19:10:16 +0000 UTCGood idea. would you do it in levels. Like level 1 affordable to most expensive. level 2 color comparison. Level 3 types of resin like abs, craft, dental. What they are used for. Then compare using the same models. Like statues and masks and maybe toss in a functional tool. Like a sanding stick or mini clamp.
Christopher Parker
2021-11-03 17:36:42 +0000 UTCI love this idea. my issue will be i am on a fixed income so i want to know the cost of them so i know if it is within my budget or not. so maybe on the "spreadsheet" a column of cost vs print quality or something involving cost?
Carlo Krun
2021-11-03 17:35:43 +0000 UTCIf you print a small seasonal model, maybe you could at least use them later. Inscribe your brand on them and leave them all over town?

2021-11-03 17:29:52 +0000 UTCLove this idea I just got a batch of Vulcan resin and have been slowly dialing it in for the Mega 8 K. Been a little tricky
Chris Smith
2021-11-03 17:16:40 +0000 UTCThis sounds like a series of videos. Maybe one day do one type/brand (clear resins, black resins, plant based, low odor, water washable) and compare it to the same type from another brand, or two, or three... And then start on another type.
Troy Nahrwold
2021-11-03 17:09:34 +0000 UTCI'm more interested in seeing different types of resins compared. What I mean is some of the standard resins that need IPA for cleaning, vs. water washable vs. some of the more exotic resins.
Martin McKeay
2021-11-03 17:03:43 +0000 UTCThat would be great. My work wants me to buy some resins and it would be great to see what other options there on amazon.
Roberto Montano
2021-11-03 16:50:22 +0000 UTCI like the idea, but I had another suggestion: Based on what I've seen in the FB groups, there are a lot of people who seem to be struggling with failures with their existing resins. Even though everyone knows that failures usually boil down to resin settings, orientation or supports, many times (or so it seems to me), folks don't know *why or how* their supports failed, how the resin settings are wrong, or why a certain orientation didn't work out. I wonder how many ppl would like to boost their success rates using their existing resin(s) vs. shopping around for new brands. I, for one, am not interested in trying Zmud or Anycubic resins until I get more successes using my existing stash of Siraya and Elegoo. So, what about a video (or maybe a series of short videos - 1 minute or less?) highlighting common print failures and how to solve them? Suction cups, delamination, deformation, under/overexposure, etc. I know Greg kinda-sorta does this already, but surely there is room for you to do it as well.
Robert Vashko
2021-11-03 16:35:32 +0000 UTCIf you have specific settings for your Saturn for Elegoo standard Grey that would be really useful though :) P.s Wasn't going to order a Jupiter until I watched your vids - 100% your fault haha
Peter Collins
2021-11-03 16:28:37 +0000 UTCI would love to see this as a video or even a small series of videos.

2021-11-03 16:28:20 +0000 UTCIts around 25C in there, I try and keep it fairly stable with the printers in a laundry cupboard. Plenty of successful prints on Mars 2 Pro but can't get the Saturn to play ball Adhesion to the plate seems to be ok but everything is pulling from the supports, tried slowing the lift speed down and rotating a model which has printed ok on the M2P Putting it down to suction force on the Saturn and just ripping the models from the supports. Downloaded your support settings and currently got one printing on those now *fingers crossed* if that doesnt work I'll try the vroom settings and popping the prints off rather than a slow peel. Need to get my head around larger prints, I pre-ordered a Juipter!
Peter Collins
2021-11-03 16:27:00 +0000 UTCWould be great to see your results! Iβve already started doing this myself with all the ABS and Engineering resins. Iβm 7 in with 8 more on the way.π€£ My application is much different than yours though.
Josh Cyrul
2021-11-03 16:25:23 +0000 UTCOhhh no! Really? Cold print room? Tried lightly sanding the buildplate?
Uncle Jessy
2021-11-03 16:23:22 +0000 UTCYeah it's a great idea, there is so much variety with resins that as a newbie it's very difficult to know where to start. Heck, I've still not got a successful print off my Saturn yet, but in the UK Siraya is expensive! So the more information the better I think.
Peter Collins
2021-11-03 16:22:38 +0000 UTCAlso, any suggestions on a model that would be fun / semi quick-ish to print? Ideally a few supports to show how those print but not something Uber complex to remove from every print
Uncle Jessy
2021-11-03 16:22:37 +0000 UTCI think this is a fantastic idea and something that would benefit the community far in excess of the cost or time involved. I'm in if I can help.

2021-11-03 16:22:25 +0000 UTCSuuuuper into this!

2021-11-03 16:21:52 +0000 UTCThatβs who it was!!! I was trying to remember who did something like that with filament. Ohhh and excellent idea about capturing room temp, print settings etc
Uncle Jessy
2021-11-03 16:21:31 +0000 UTCYou and me both hahaha itβs still expensive and getting one that doesnβt print will would suck.. hopefully this would help that for a lot of folks

2021-11-03 16:19:41 +0000 UTCIn my opinion it's a great idea! I honestly think such a comparison is really very useful. Thanks!

2021-11-03 16:18:47 +0000 UTCI think this would be a hell of a video series. There is a gentleman on YouTube who I enjoy, Zack Freedman, who did something similar with filament for an FDM printer. He did all plastic types he could find (super interesting to watch in my opinion). I personally would love to see something like this however I would argue if you are going to do this, it would be awesome to see all the data. Current room temp, using the same printer for consistency, slicer settings and document it all. Put it on pateron or me personally I'd even pay for that data separately as a digital download of some sorts. Just my two cents of course but I think the data you could come away with would be amazing and having the same model printed with pictures to see how they compare.

2021-11-03 16:18:37 +0000 UTCThink it's a great idea, resin printing technology is speeding up as well as new resins coming out. Would be great to see some comparisons. I'm hesitate to purchase random resins right now and stick with name brands. Other than Inland I go with elegoo and siryatech.

2021-11-03 16:16:57 +0000 UTCI like the idea. Big names get a lot of airtime but there are smaller that do well but no one has heard of them.
