So,its been pretty much confirmed from Craig Mazin that the show will have atleast 4 seasons now. He spoke in a interview saying that its impossible to finish the story in just 3 seasons, especially considering theyre only doing 7 episodes for s2 n s3 (which is just so bizarre that they decided 7 was enough for each season). So he said they will hope to get season 4 greenlit from hbo..but even him saying that..they wouldve have to known for a longtime that was the case,so im assuming hbo already knew that and will let them finish it out. And craig was just saying it in that way to leave the door open for speculation. He wouldnt just say something like that and have hbo be surprised by that news. So its pretty much guaranteed in my perspective that s4 will be a thing. but its really only 3 seasons,s2 and s3 just being split into 2 for some reason.

But it really makes the cold open of episode 5 more impactful, because Park DID give up her son for the world and for the people, and made the ultimate sacrifice that Joel couldn’t. The trolley problem is a classic thought experiment for a reason

I honestly feel like this is ND trying to retcon the story. There is just no possible way with an inexperienced doctor, lack of equipment, and no way to mass produce the cure. Plus, they would need more than just Ellie to make a full scale vaccine. If you listen to the intro for the show, the expert says there is no cure if the fungus ever jumped to people. Now sure, as medicine advances, that could change. But they didn't get that chance. So we're to believe that a guy who was probably still in med school (or just about to start his surgical residency) at outbreak was going to have the know how to do brain surgery, study the cordyceps, and create a vaccine that has never existed yet? I truly think this is just ND trying to justify Abby's revenge/make Joel's choice seem worse because he doesn't like the fact a lot of people are on Joel's side.

Honestly, he shouldn't have ever made the promise in the first place. When it came to killing Eugene, he should've just told Ellie this is how it's going to be. Deal with it. However lying to Gail was better for her mentally

To help settle the uncertainty about if the the operation would’ve worked or not back in Salt Lake, Neil Druckman who wrote/created the VG has confirmed that the surgery on Ellie WOULD HAVE made a cure. He confirmed it.

SHEESH, this episode was amazing, well done adaptation here !!! hit all the spots from the game. the saddest part, ellie was willing to try again to rekindle with joel but she didn't get the chance.

Gotta love Joey Pants showing up for five minutes of screen time and basically being like, "Hey, watch this, I'm gonna go ahead and mess around and win an Emmy for like 12 lines of dialogue."

This adaptation of the game is so on point bringing up how deep goes the generational trauma (from Joel's grandfather to Joel's dad and later to Joel himself, and in the future to Ellie if she ever will be a parent) which made the porch scene so much more poignant than it was in a game (where it also hit hard, but it felt a different kind of melancholy and sadness). You missed the fact that this episode was directed by Neil Druckmann who created the game, and his careful approach to the details shows in every frame there (the watch on the wrist of Joel's father; Nirvana posters + moths drawings in old Ellie's room; how the famous "gee-tar" was made by Joel; "See you next year" from Tommy; etc.). This episode alone elevated the whole series. I'm not the person to cry while watching TV series (it's a rare thing for me, but I totally get why many are having such emotional response to episodes like this one), but mentally I was crushed during it, perfectly knowing what this nice montage of "one year later" leads to, and the last scene was even better than in the game which (plesantly) shocked me. And ending on Ellie's face after she tortured Nora was... omg, so much layers in this 10 seconds scene! This was an extraordinary hour of collective talent expressed on all fronts, and I don't care what trolls and haters do online about harrassing Bella and trying to undermine show's ratings anywhere, this is the best game adaptation ever. Period. The rest doesn't matter. Obviously Pedro and Bella killed this episode, but there were no doubts about that; I want instead to highlight Tony Dalton as Joel's father and Joe Pantoliano as Eugene - both in so short time left such great impressions about their characters, they really gave an acting masterclass. Btw, I'm very surprised that the guys didn't recognised Pantoliano - you're all never saw The Sopranos?! Mason kinda recognised him for Matrix, but this awesome actor played in a lot of stuff, including Memento [directed by Christopher Nolan], so it was a bit surreal that Mason's the only who noticed him at all.

"Because I love you." :'(

I love Joel in this ep. But he pissed me off so much I actually cried. Poor soul, I felt pity for him, understood him, but just couldn't appreciate his actions. Tryna tell Gail that Eugene 'did it himself' was wicked. Compulsive liar, lmao. He can only tell the truth non-verbally, when pushed.

Finally! "I'm on a mf dinosaur!" My favorite flashback and I hope we get more flashbacks next season, but man it took so long to see Joel again. I had a smile the entire first and second birthday. I just love how Joel is so into building/fixing things! Also shout out to Pedro (who funnily enough had to have Bella teach him how to play guitar) and his amazing voice. The dinosaur/spaceship scene was Pedro's last day filming, those tears were 100% real! 😭😭😭 Man, I remember crying at the "If I could do it all over again" iconic scene in the game, but this hit 1000x harder and had me blubbering all over again. Pedro really brought it for this scene. I feel so bad for Gale and I get Ellie being upset at Joel, but she hurt Gale for no reason. Gale and everyone else understands a bite=death, Ellie doesn't seem to comprehend that because that won't ever be a reality for her. Gale didn't need to know the nitty gritty of it and Ellie still shows she isn't mature enough to patrol. Like Joel said, they have rules and we saw Ellie disregard the other rules as well when she went on patrol with Jesse in the first episode. Frankly, I just don't know why they didn't use their walkie talkie so he and Gail could've said their goodbyes.
