With deep trauma, you're going to get a matter-of-fact, flat delivery of the story. He wouldn't have the bandwidth to describe that series of events and emote at the same time. While I am sure Rebecca felt traumatized by seeing her father like that, it isn't nearly as deep as hearing a gunshot and finding your dad dead.

Thank God for Oak. He gets it. I don’t know where in the show Keeley has been checking out Jamie other than just looking at him as a good friend. MQ thinks everything is more deep than it is

I do think that the Beard episode was a good buffer between the two episodes. No matter how many times I see this, I tear up. This episode is also broken up with very funny vs very painful moments. Definitely a rollercoaster of an episode.

I absolutely love your reactions, they feel so honest and sincere! Ted Lasso is one of my favorite shows, next to Scrubs and Afterlife. The mix of humor and realism, when it comes to the sad moments, is way up there! If you have time and would love to watch a show, that makes you laugh and cry at the same time, please consider watching Afterlife by Ricky Gervais. Watching it with you guys would be amazing.

I love the nod to all parents everywhere that a child expressing they hate you often keeps that from ever being the case. she's processing, yes, and responding with complex anger to a simple target - that her mom stays steady and allows her daughter to face that is amazing. and then the lack of reaction also allows Rebecca to sing for her and then be closer with her after it all. yes, TL gets the relationship stuff right in romance - but it also gets parent-child relationships SPOT ON... I also could appreciate Beard more in this episode after getting his solo episode before.... nice how much MQ liked that episode!

It was so impactful when Rebecca said "then I hate you too", after learning her mother always knew of her dad cheating, but didn't leave. It felt like Rebecca was expressing anger at her mother for inadvertently teaching her to accept that kind of behavior from a partner (Rupert..). The growth in Ted respecting therapy as a profession was great too. Him lightheartedly asking if Dr. Sharon was going to charge for the session shows that he no longer views it as proof she doesn't genuinely care about him.

I thought the directors made a mistake flipping back n forth with Ted and Rebecca talking about hating someone close to them. Their situations are very different and hold different weight. Ted sharing with Sharon about his father should have been its own moment as a whole, let that scene breathe and help us viewers feel as if we are sitting in the therapy session with them. It kept throwing me out of it when they’d cut off Ted and go to Rebecca mid sentence. Still a great scene with Ted but a truly missed opportunity of a masterpiece moment.
