I used to love Batman & Robin, Mortal Kombat from the 90s and the Power Rangers films from that time as well. The most guilty of all though were Street Fighter (JCVD) and Double Dragon (Marc Dacascos). I was 4 to 7 when those films released so I thought they were accurate to source material and decent produced cinema LMAO SMH!!!

2024-08-20 23:56:46 +0000 UTC"Buffalo '66" ... I wouldn't say that everyone hates it... but definitely a lot of friends and people I know hate this movie... and I love it... back when independent films had a certain feel and there are so many memorable scenes that I love but some people get turned off by a character that is a dick I guess... same reason a lot of people don't like Blue Velvet... they just can't get passed the portrayal of a fucked up guy that abuses women... I guess, not sure if other people think this film is crap for other reasons... but I watched this when it came out in 1998 and I still watch it here and there and it's great.

2024-04-10 21:00:09 +0000 UTCTwo of a Kind is the seldom seen re-teaming of John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John. It was one of my favorite movies growing up and has a great ‘80s soundtrack with songs from the likes of Olivia Newton-John, Journey, Boz Scaggs, and Chicago to name a few. And the concept for the movie is really interesting. God (voiced by an uncredited Gene Hackman) tasks 4 angels with proving there’s still good in the world within one week or he’s going to flood the world again. The angels pick Travolta’s Zack, an amateur inventor who’s being hounded by mob figures for a loan he has yet to repay. So, he tries to rob a bank and meets Newton-John’s Debbie, who instead of giving him the bank money gives him a bag full of blank paper. So, Zack tries to track down Debbie to get the money back that he needs to pay the mob or he’s going to have his ears cut off. Zack and Debbie end up becoming romantically involved, because of course they do. The Devil (played by Oliver Reed) also becomes involved in the proceedings. Will Zack make the ultimate sacrifice for Debbie (and the world)? Will they fall in love? Will God get his second flood? You gotta check it out to find out!

2024-04-03 07:04:56 +0000 UTCBeverly Hills Cop III is one of the most maligned sequels in film history. But I think it’s better and funnier than its predecessor (II, not the original, nothing beats the original). The action scenes, though sparse, were engaging. I enjoyed the interaction between the characters and the bad guy was truly menacing, I thought.

2024-04-03 06:48:16 +0000 UTCM Butterfly by David Cronenberg starring Jeremy Irons. It's an adaptation of a stage play which is based on a true story about a French diplomat during the Vietnam War. It's a bizarre and deep exploration of love can be used as a tool of deception. This movie is mostly forgotten and was panned at the time but it's worth checking out

2024-03-30 05:04:10 +0000 UTCShowgirls. I finally checked it out after your review as you peaked my interest for it and yeah it's pretty decent. Most of the negative criticism seems to think it's meant to be a serious drama when they miss or forget the fact that it's a Verhoven film who is known for his cheeky satirical style even though RoboCop did the same thing almost a decade earlier and everybody was ok with that. While it's not as polished as RoboCop, it's by no means a bad film and its reputation as one of the worst films ever is unwarranted.

2024-03-28 16:23:12 +0000 UTCAlexander by Oliver Stone. Portraying Alexander the Great as an effeminate weakling does he and the LGBTQ community no favors, and giving the Macedonians Irish accents likely even had the Irish scratching heads. To say this isn't Collin Ferrell's best performance is being kind and Rosario Dawson's first and only nude scene in her career must have left her feeling unrewarded. Despite all that, Anthony Hopkin's voice narration combined with incredible foreign locations and certain portions of Vangelis's score capture the mood perfectly. It feels like we're living in history. Val Kilmer is great and Angelina Jolie is gorgeous. It's a messy film, but I prefer it to other versions.

2024-03-28 02:04:06 +0000 UTCJames Bond movies. Even the bad ones. I get that people don’t like the idea of “toxic masculinity” but honestly the 007 films are at their best when James Bond as a character is blatantly presented as an awful person yet always gets to walk off with the girl and a sly smirk anyway.

2024-03-27 20:57:47 +0000 UTCArgylle. I find the plot surprising and creative. Yes, this movie is ridiculous to a degree, yes, I could feel the runtime at times, CGI looks bad here and there but Matthew Vaughn's new film doesn't take itself seriously. It's a fun experience. If you have an issue with pacing during the first half, third act should make it up to you.

2024-03-27 17:43:06 +0000 UTCAlex Garland’s “Men”. I understand that it’s not for everyone, but I really loved it. It looks gorgeous, the performances from Jesse Buckly and Rory Kinnear are fantastic, and it genuinely disturbs me which is exactly what I want from a horror film. I don’t see the film as being anti-male, but more as an exploration of trauma. In that I think the movie really succeeds.

2024-03-27 15:42:12 +0000 UTCThe Star Wars prequels. Terrible dialogue and a myriad of other issues -- yes, but there's still a coziness with characters and story lines more directly linked to the original trilogy. The intersection of personal melodrama and failing political institutions, which in retrospect presaged many of the current problems in our own world, just works for me.

2024-03-27 00:47:52 +0000 UTCI love Mel Brooks’ filmography. All of his films are funny, but the one I think is criminally underrated is Dracula: Dead and Loving It. The critics destroyed it. No one saw it in theaters. I think there is a cult faction of fans, such as myself, that love the film. But I think that those who don’t think it’s funny quite frankly don’t have a sense of humor. The script is incredibly witty and the sight gags and physical humor are brilliant. Leslie Nielsen is great as the title character. Peter MacNicol is hysterical as Renfield. I loved Mel Brooks as Van Helsing. And Steven Weber and Harvey Korman are both very funny throughout.

2024-03-26 23:34:30 +0000 UTCThe Big Hit is one of my favorite action comedies of the ‘90s. Mark Wahlberg and Lou Diamond Phillips squaring off as competing hitmen turned nemeses with a witty script and great action sequences throughout. And the whole overzealous video store clerk calling about the overdue rental copy of King Kong Lives is just brilliant, in my opinion.

2024-03-26 23:19:46 +0000 UTCStop! Or My Mom Will Shoot! Now, hear me out. It’s hilarious. I don’t care what Stallone or any of the critics say. It turns every cliche on its head with Stallone playing a version of … Stallone, but with a sitcom-like premise with his mother coming for a visit. Yes, I can feel the 🙄 from all who read this. But there are some hilarious scenes throughout and lines by both Stallone and Estelle Getty.

2024-03-26 23:11:42 +0000 UTCI find Bruno's mockery of vapid celebrity culture, trend-chasing, and the embarrassing things people for media attention to be more interesting and relevant than the satirical elements of Borat. Paula Abdul literally sitting on a Mexican laborer while talking about helping other people being "the air that she breathes" or the "adopting a child from Africa" bits are more ridiculous than anything in Borat. Borat is weirdly a movie that's enjoyed by racist people and by people who understand it's making fun of racist people. People love doing impressions of Borat, but watching a flamboyant gay stereotype in Bruno for 90 minutes with a lot of sexual jokes makes people uncomfortable. Sacha Baron Cohen's fearless performance and the complete transformation of his voice, accent, and mannerisms is quite impressive as well.

2024-03-26 22:43:14 +0000 UTCAlien: Covenant. Unlike Prometheus, I think Covenant is a fantastic blend of Alien and Aliens. And I appreciate how the film actually takes risks with the mythology of the franchise.
