A fair point. But shouldn't it be possible to purchase more than three shovels per cycle (or am I missing ways to purchase more)? Or maybe have some event trigger an opportunity to purchase more--like the special goods that become available at [location not mentioned to avoid spoiler]?

Shovel breakage is balanced by floor depth. Deeper floors give better loot, so the shovels break more frequently. It's pretty much a linear scaling. A good way of looking at it is that shovels cost money and generally produce more money in loot dug up than they cost. This hasn't been increased ever - only decreased (made more favorable to the player) and it's PROBABLY about where I want it but maybe not... I'm still balancing the game.

One great release after another! A question, though: The last several times I've explored the caves in Abamond, the shovels have broken much faster than they had in the past. Now it takes me about eleven torches to go through three shovels, whereas before I think three shovels would have lasted for more like 30-40 torches, if not more. Is this true? If so, why, and is there any way around it (other than to get the curio shop to manufacture better shovels)? UPDATE: I have visited the caves of Abamond three times since I wrote this message. I ran out of shovels on the ninth, twelfth, and sixth torches (in each case, I had three). Can something be done? Or is this a feature, in the sense that there is some arcane way to strengthen the shovels?
