Skeletonized Diabolo Slugs - Spin baby Spin
Added 2020-02-21 08:19:42 +0000 UTCSort of a simple design using solid brass and an allen countersunk screw. These come from Israel and were made by Saar on his tiny lathe. I sort of screwed up and had Danny shoot the majority of these through a rifled barrel. The results of that were pretty bad. We had one left and Danny suggested we just go smooth-bore. Amazingly that one was very accurate.

Spin is a weird thing. Depending on how the mass is distributed, it's either dynamically stable or unstable. A good example would be a book or tennis racket. It will want to spin about two axis, not one. Or perhaps what it's doing is spinning around some weird axis. Disks are nice and stable. Things get very weird if bits whip about, or flex, during the spin. It comes down to conservation of angular momentum and action, but I've not quite got the math chops for it.
