1930's Yankee Hill "LEGO" 12ga. Shotgun slugs - Tested!

Today we test out slugs made from an old 1930's mold by Yankee Hill.  Not sure if it is the same Yankee Hill Machine Co.  we know today.   This came out around the same time as the Foster or "rifled" slug but for whatever reason,  is pretty much unknown today.

Jeff: I believe the reason the short ones went faster is because the equivalent amounts of powder were confined to a smaller volume inside the hull, beneath the wad. I presume all other factors (seating pressure, wad and projectile weight/dimensions, etc.) were equal. This is akin to seating a pistol or rifle bullet deeper in the case (with less than recommended OAL) causing a resultant increase in overall pressure. So, with a shorter hull you have greater explosive pressure (and the same amount of powder/slug/wad weight), and the projectile/wad is propelled faster over the chrono. This is also why Gregg felt more recoi with the shorter slug; it was going faster, and you can't fool Mr. Newton. Simple physics!!

Informative and entertaining as usual. BTW, the same powder charge in a smaller containment (e.g. shorter shell) would be expected to peak at higher pressure, possibly explaining the velocity advantage of the shorter shell.

Boom? Giggle, another outstanding video.

I understand your pain, OG. When I was a young man, I used to complain that my job cut into my social life and was really inconvenient. Back then my boss was like a diaper (always on my ass and often full of crap). Then, one day, I got that letter from Ed McMahon, so I went to my boss and told hime he better watch his butt, because Mr. McMahon said I may already be a millionaire. It really stung when he laughed so hard that milk came out of his nose. He wasn't even drinking milk, at the time.
