12ga. Slug with a .22lr round inside

We have another strange and brilliant creation from Evan Perry to test today.  Evan makes slugs out of very unusual objects which might sound easy.  But the shape,  the diameter and balance must be correct to make the slugs function correctly and accurately.

I recall seeing that video, very impressive effect. Didn't you have had any problems with shrapnel or parts of the slug beeing propelled backwards?

Lieuwe Hoogstrate

Thanks. We did something like that before but the slugs had tannerite inside them. They were pretty wild. https://youtu.be/8Lpx_CQ6kwo

We did some exploding slugs a few years ago that had the blanks in the nose and a few grams of tannerite inside. https://youtu.be/8Lpx_CQ6kwo

I think I still have some marbles from the last time we shot them. They did pretty well!

Same as Lieuwe - I have been wondering about backward-facing blanks mounted in the nose of a bullet for a while - the intent being to either force or increase expansion, trap the deflagration gases within the body of the target, cause a supersonic shock wave within the target, increase the permanent wound cavity size, etc. I experimented with nail gun blanks and lead pellets a while ago to see if the pellets would fly true (they didn't) and impact heavily (they most certainly did, and there are YouTube videos chronographing them at ~3,000 f/s muzzle velocity). I would think that if a nail gun blank were to go off from impact, that - being significantly more powerful than a .22 LR, and perhaps even a .22 WMR - they would cause significantly increased damage. Whether that would be the case in a bored-through hole like these slugs have, or would require a blind hole to build "chamber" pressure remains to be seen (or tested???)

Could be interesting with a .22 blank shoved in from the front. However I did again really enjoy your science project and the extremely scientific comments πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ‘ Keep up the good work and keep yourselves armed up in Calicornia

Interesting. I started to suggest putting the .22 in the other way, but immediately realized that it was a bad idea. I came across a bunch of glass marbles, I'd be willing to send them if you're interested.

Yo dawg we heard you like bullets
