An interesting film. Some more than acceptable performances, but nothing from anyone that I would rate particularly highly, if I'm brutally honest. Some were quite generic and formulaic too. Just one of few a examples. Vince Vaughan is basically one of two roles in pretty much every film I've seen him in. This was type two with an extra touch of cliché added for good measure. Sorry Vince. Hey he's often more than adequate at what he does, but he's neither a good character actor or a diverse lead. Not to solely pick on Mr Vaughan unfairly, but it's quite indicative of the broad tone of this film. Now, Kristen does project a degree of depth in this film, that perhaps has been stereotypically lacking from other performances I've witnessed. Now this gives me more encouragement to seek out more like this from her. I did enjoy the wardrobe and vibrant colour pallet of the decade. Was it boring? Actually no, for me I don't think it was. I've turned off films after 20 minutes, that haven't grabbed my attention before. But I will coalesce with you on elements of your final thoughts. This is ultimately quite underwhelming as a whole. But I'm glad that I gave it ago.

I didn't know this movie existed. And given she was an icon of the film movement that inspired my user name, I feel like I really, really should have. She has a really interesting and complex story, so there should be a great movie in there. I'm looking forward to this. Thanks Nathan!

Haven't seen this one yet...like Kristen Stewart, will check out, and then get back to you.

Definitely give it a chance. :) Jean should not be forgotten.

I’ve never heard of her or the movie either. The thumbnail tells me to give it shot. Plus, the movie is free on Prime for me and I’m under the weather today. Looking forward to my first watch.

Jean was a remarkable woman. What she could have been/should have been was cut short so tragically and for no real reason outside of who she was affiliated with. Upon a rewatch, I dropped my initial rating from a 4 to a 3.5 because, as much as I loved Kristen and Anthony, I've noticed more flaws than I did the first time around. I haven't seen this since 2020 and I can honestly say what I remembered and what I saw were two completely different things. Perhaps it was the memory of the movie molding with what I've since read about Jean in the following years? I don't know and I'm sad that you didn't enjoy it as much, though I completely understand why. Kristen I feel did a remarkable job with the paranoia and emulating Jean but we need a 2 and a half hour biopic about what she did with the Black Panthers, how involved she was, the multiple affairs, all of it. Everything was kind of just mentioned and rushed through to fit in the hour and a half time slot. There's SO MUCH left out even during the FBI surveillance period that this film uses. They had her have an open casket funeral for her premature child just to prove what its skin color was, Hollywood blacklisted her, she was literally tormented just for being someone that wanted to do the right thing. She was quite the free-spirit, which is probably what attracted Kristen to the role as she's a free-spirit herself, but ultimately Jean deserves better. Get Kristen and Anthony to remake this film more accurately and they'll have a gold mine. On my official Kristen Stewart film ranking, it dropped from 19 to 31, that being out of a total of 44 released films. I still feel that it's a good film, especially for people that don't know Jean Seberg's story. If anything, the movie is still a good film to watch for that very reason: to get people talking again. Also, yes, I realized the error I made once you pointed it out. When I said Black History, in my mind I was thinking because Seberg was active and supportive of the Black Panthers during the Civil Rights era that this would be part of Black History, however the film being centered around a "rich white woman" does in fact put a cork in that thought process. I am glad you watched it and I'm grateful for your honest thoughts as that made me realize a few things myself. I promise much better Kristen films in the future :)
