The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) | Full Reaction

I don't think I'll ever really fully recover from this movie. Not completely. A small, shattered piece of my heart will always stay here in that broken clock tower. It's one of those movies that doesn't just hit you. It lingers. Like a bruise on your soul that needs time to heal. We lived in Peter and Gwen's love, their joy, their tug-of-war between destiny and desire. And then, in a single moment, it was all gone.

But honestly, this is where Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man deserves all of my love. His version of Peter has so much heart to it. He carries his honesty like a shield and a wound at the same time. There is no mask when it comes to his feelings for Gwen. He loves her something fierce and you can feel it guide every single decision he makes. Even when it leads him to pain. He doesn't wall himself off from the world. He doesn't shut down. He loves, even when the shadows of Gwen's father's promise haunt him.

Andrew Garfield made Peter Parker and Spider-Man feel like the most human of them all. Heart wide open. Vulnerable. Raw. I think that's what makes him resonate with me so much and I loved every moment of it. Even when it broke my little heart in half.

And seriously, THANK YOU ALL. Not a single one of you hit me with the "tissue warning" or even a sly tearful emoji leading up to this moment. Because of that, I got the gift of a true, blind reaction. This whole Spider-Man journey has meant so much to me, and I'm so grateful to share it with you all. Keep hitting me with all the lore and honest thoughts as well! I've really enjoyed hearing y'alls comments on whose Spider-Man/Peter Parker is their favorite and why.

Next up: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! I'll see you all there!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) | Full Reaction

Comments

Thank you for this reaction! It's devastating but in a cathartic way. And I fully agree with your review. Especially your point regarding the sound- and music design for Electro. I've mostly just read negative stuff about it, but I think it was really well executed!

Onno Smits

Finally got a chance to catch up on some of your reactions Kali Whoa! 😳 I knew what happened to Gwen would hit you. But I didn’t expect it to hit you that hard I get it. I really liked their relationship too. And how they chose each other. And decided to go for it. In spite of everything trying to keep them apart. Anyways, I don’t want to make you sad again. So I’ll leave it at that. I did enjoy the Garfield Spider-Man films though. And I enjoyed your reactions to them Kali

Robert da Spruce

You took it real when Gwen died

JeRon Washington

I wrote her a list of Spider-Man films to watch in order, if that's what you're implying. Cause I'm having trouble understanding what you're saying. 😅😅 In case I'm wrong here, I'm sorry.

Daniel Morgan

Kali, I wrote this in the YouTube vid, and I'll write it here. The remaining Spider-Man films, both live action and animated, delve into the "Spider-Verse" (or Spider-Man multiverse) saga. So, watching both animated films first will spoil the others (or confuse you in a few scenes) cause of things like post credits or mentioning other universes. The appropriate order is: 1. Venom 2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 3. Venom 2 4. Spider-Man: No Way Home 5. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 6. Venom 3 (if you want)

Daniel Morgan

So a couple of things about the depiction of Gwen's death. The outfit she's wearing is identical to the one that Gwen in the comics is wearing when she's killed. Back when this movie was being filmed, as often happens nowadays when movies are in production, there were some photos leaked from the set. And so when people who are familiar with Spider-Man comics saw pictures of Emma Stone in *that* outfit, we started to suspect what Gwen's fate in this movie might be. Also, in the clock tower when the gears are collapsing and Gwen starts to fall, the hands on the clock spin wildly for a few seconds before stopping on 1:21. #121 is the issue number of the Spider-Man comic where Gwen is killed. A couple of neat little Easter eggs to what's an incredibly sad scene.

Kenny

I don't have a lot to say about this movie except that, I feel your pain. Emma and Andrew played their parts so well that it gets you so invested in their relationship that her death hits incredibly hard. I watched this movie all the way through because you did but I have revisited this movie a few times over the years and always skipped past her death scene because it is so traumatizing. Hearing her head hitting the concrete just punches a hole in me every time. I knew that when that scene would happen you would be a wreck and I am glad that no one prepared you for it. Even if they would of, it just hits to hard to be ready for. Unfortunately this movie didn't do as well in the box office and they didn't continue with them. Andrew Garfield felt incredibly bad for a long time that he didn't service the character of Spider-Man good enough, in his mind anyway. He loved this character and for a long time I think he carried guilt with him. He's a very good actor though and I'm glad he was able to move on to do other things. I like all the actors Spider-Man portrayals. Tobey is the OG, Andrew has a lot of heart and humor and Tom brought Spider-Man to life in the MCU. I feel all 3 brought a lot themselves into playing the roll. Do I have a favorite? All 3 is my answer. A cop out? Don't care, they all play the character very well. I have never watched the animated movies even though I hear they are great. I tried to watch the 1st one but the animation style was just not my cup of tea. It took me out of the story, but I am an older guy so it's not a style of animation that I grew up with or enjoy. I do hear they are great movies though, so I hope you enjoy them.

Lastboyscout73 (John)

I totalllllly get that. Be well out there & let this one take time to heal 😮‍💨✨💕

Kali Wali

Peter & Gwen are the best things about these two movies, and Andrew & Emma are the biggest reason. They excel when arguably the sub plots and support characters let the films down (with the exception of Aunt May). I can only imagine how better these two outings could have been with an improved story.

KJ

YES! The acting throughout these films is 100% what sold me on these films. I felt like a fly on the wall at every moment and loved the entire ride because of that. Thank you so much for the recommendations for both of them, I'll be putting them on my list!

Kali Wali

"I think a lot of people were burnt out on Spider-Man at the time" feels like a VERY accurate analysis on what was possibly happening for this movie to get so much side eye. I loved the Andrew Garfield movies so much! There has to be an explination for why they were not as well loved and this does make the most sense to me lol. Plus a reboot can always go sideways, even if it's the best one in history. Some people just can't love another version of something they've loved for years. It feels like 'cheating' almost is what it seems like. I love the easter egg about 1:21! That's soooo clever! Gosh when I get to that episode when I finally do my read through I'll need to bring some tissues ha. I recently just rented the kindle version of 'The Amazing Fantasy #15' that comes along with 'The Amazing Spider-Man' classic volumes from the 60's so I'm starting there as a fun light read even tho I said I wasn't going to start now haha. I just can't help it. I loved these movies so much..

Kali Wali

Ahhh very interesting!! ANOTHER love interest hehe

Kali Wali

Ugh... 😿

Kali Wali

Gwen's death really explains why her loss carries so much weight on Peter decades later. It's such a bold move for Marvel at the time and I feel like it definitely shifts the tone towards more mature storytelling. This moment wrecked me, so I couldn't imagine how the comic readers felt. I also caught those Goblin-hands in the scene with Harry and Norman, but I thought it was Lizard hands from the serum they made in the first movie? I guess it was meant to be more of the goblin-like serum instead tho! I also noticed the bandage on his neck (hiding gills like Dr. Connors had on his neck when he wasn't full lizard mode). But I'm assuming now reading your comment there is more of a 'goblin' presence here instead. Thank you!

Kali Wali

The emotional weight of this movie is SO heavy. Even just looking back on it right now, I couldn't watch it again. I want to because I loved it, but I just... Don't think I can subject myself to it again haha. Andrew Garfield brings out Peter's struggles and heartbreak so well. And his chemistry with Gwen is what makes that love hit so much harder. So when this happened, I was shook to the core. Never did I expect the 'damsel in distress' to die. I totally get your point about release order! It does make me nervous that some folks could get angry if I skipped movies to get ahead in the timeline. I'll keep your perspective in mind if the temptation to jump ahead strikes- Which honestly, not going to lie I've been considering it since many have said Shang-Chi, Hawkeye, and Eternals don't have much to do with No Way Home. We'll see. I'd hate to upset the MCU community (again.)

Kali Wali

I'm actually really glad you didn't haha! I didn't realize how much of a spoiler this was until I watched this and got not a single "Oh this will break your heart, bring tissues" comment. It made it VERY enjoyable ❤️

Kali Wali

The Stacys were such a central emotional anchor in these movies. Even if the story didn't fully go anywhere with them in the end, but I guess they did expect a third movie and that got yanked unfortunately. Stan Lee joking about the "grudge" cracked me up LOL . He really did have such an awesome sense of humor about the tragedies he wrote. As I've been moving through more of his films, I have learned so much about the person he was through this awesome MCU/Spidey community and now anytime I see him on screen I can't help but tear up a bit knowing he is gone before I could really enjoy his movies. Not like it matters, but for some reason that just hits me lol.

Kali Wali

Just a suggestion. But if you want to experience the feel of the comics specifically Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s Era in a way that still gives you content you could watch The Spectacular Spider-Man series. I know you haven’t branched into animated series, but as someone who’s read through the Steve Ditko And Stan Lee’s Era of comics Spectacular Spider-Man is the best adaptation of that There are some differences and changes naturally, but most of the series draws parallels straight from the comic more than any of the movies. It’s basically a retelling or reimagining of that era of comics and is regarded as the best Spider-Man series by many. It’s 2 seasons and 26 episodes in total. Just letting you know regardless whether you do a reaction series or not I just think that any Spider-Man fan should give it a watch, because it’s very good and fun.

Justin Garlington

I love this movie as well, once again I just love Andrew Garfield as Spider Man these movies just have a certain aesthetic I just love I can't put my finger on it. Once again Andrew shows his amazing acting skills it's just phenomenal. Sadly Gwen's death is just like the comics, I love that you mentioned you'll never recover, literally everybody that has seen this movie has in fact NOT recovered even 10+ years later. This will forever be one of the most heartbreaking deaths to me Also this movie has a LOT of deleted scenes, some being Mary Jane being introduced, Peter's father coming back which you can find on YouTube Andrew's acting is amazing there, you just have to see it imo. There's also a deleted scene or photos of Peter after Gwen's death screaming and almost killing Harry because he's so rageful, you can see a photo of Harry half alive and one of Andrew holding him up and screaming. Honestly I wish they kept that in, it really shows what happens when you piss Spider Man off and when he stops pulling his punches against his enemies.

Ichigoat

To be honest Peter and Harry being childhood friends is something that the movies themselves came up with. In the comics Peter and Harry and Gwen for that matter didn’t meet until Peter started attending college

Justin Garlington

I've watched all your comic movie reviews and most (outside BSG) others and I never think I've seen you cry so hard. A fun thing I noticed was that during the beginning Peter and May had a huge argument about laundry because he was trying to wash his spidey-tighties without her knowing, yet at the end his spidey-clothes were not only cleaned but FOLDED in his closet! Tobey = Peter Andrew = Spider-Man Tom = Both.

Robin Holmes

This was an excellent example of how much more visceral and authentic first time reactions can be when the community forgo the "tissue warnings". Kudos to everyone.

Giancarlo Gasparin

What do we think, chat? Should Kali meet "Red" before No Way Home???

Giancarlo Gasparin

I was always in the minority about Garfield as Spidey - wasn't really a fan of these movies, but I knew what heartbreak you were in for so I watched it. I have to say, knowing what was coming when you didn't - my heart broke for the way you basked in Peter and Gwen's love. I knew it was going to be hard. I may not care for the movies, but this moment when Gwen dies - this (like Uncle Ben's death) is why Peter becomes who he is. This was right from the comics in the 1970's, and honestly when you remember that he and Gwen were a thing before MJ was ever brought into the picture in the comics, it makes his relationship with MJ make more sense. Thanks for taking us on the ride with you.

The Dingo

I think I'm too emotionally wrecked to make a thoughtful comment. I enjoyed the movie and your reaction.

Ugly Sonic

As someone who's been watching the majority of these movies for the first time with Kali, or right before she gets to them, the "bring tissues" type comments absolutely have spoiled my experience in some of these movies (Good Will Hunting i'm looking at you, haha), so I totally agree. The less hints that are given out before the movie, the more natural the reaction and experience is

M1 Maz

I think my favorite part of the Amazing Spider-Man films has to be Peter and Gwen's arc. Their bond is so pure, as is the way they both support each other. They're two parts of a whole. And it's so clear in these two movies that she above anyone else is what keeps him going. All of that is to say her dying just is that much more of an emotional gut punch. Especially in that way. By a thread.... These two definitely ended up being my favorite Spider-Man films! And that's not to say I didn't absolutely love all the rest. There's just something about Andrew Garfield playing both a very grounded, emotional Peter Parker, and a silly, quippy Spider-Man was just so awesome to watch. I just felt so connected to his character And now the music.... The whole movie I was thinking to myself this is hands down the best soundtrack in any of the Spider-Man films, and then saw Hans Zimmer's name and just went YEP. I really love the darker, heavier, more rock inspired score on this one. Especially Electro's theme. That Times Square scene had NO BUSINESS going that hard! I wish I could have experienced that one in theaters. Thanks for these *amazing* reactions! Really enjoyed seeing Spider-Man through your eyes

M1 Maz

I 100% agree with you about the "bring tissues" comments, it's definitely a spoiler as it can be a hint to how the story is going to go and then your looking for it in the movie. I wanted to say something about that but I didn't want to upset anyone by saying it... I'm glad you brought it up though... When it comes to reactors, I love seeing their genuine reactions to something they didn't see coming. It's funny because I saw this movie when it came out in theaters and I remember not liking it mostly because of the villains which was also the complaint most fans had with it, but now watching it all these years later, I actually thought it was a great movie, even the villains... Great reaction to the movie...

McShades

It would be great if you read the comics and posted your thoughts. Many of the characters and events from the films are there, with different takes. Marvel released a lot of comics as pdfs on CD and DVD in the mid 2000s. If you have a PO Box and want them, I can send them for free. You need an external DVD drive. I just tested them on a current Windows pc and they work fine I have “40 Years of Avengers” (DVD-ROM, 500 issues 1963-2005), “40 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man” (11 CDs, 500 issues 1963-2003), “Marvel Comic Book Library” (CD, 100 issues of early Daredevil, Hulk, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men and more)

Paul M

My favorite part of following you is that you get so emotionally attached to all these characters and that you are susch an empathic person. So even back when you were playing mass effect or god of war or watching movies I looked forward to seeing those hard hitting moments with you because I am also an emotional person and I end up sitting here crying with you... and then I usually pull myself together before you do then I start laughing to myself about the whole situation xD Andrew Garfield is my favorite spider-man from some superficial things like how he looks in the spider-man costume to how the costume looked in the first movie. But also he has the best personality and playfulness but also has heart. The way he is with kids and so much more. I liked Gwen the most as the love interest because of the chemistry Andrew and Emma had together. There is a deleted scene where Peter is at the graveyard and his dad shows up alive and Peter gets really emotional(Would suggest watching it for fun) I really wished they kept that in and kept going in a sequel. Fun little fact: When Ghen shouts PETER! when he webs her is actually a blooper that they kept in because they liked it so much. Like someone else said I hope you watch no way home soon as it would wrap up the spider-man story line. Can't wait for more content :)

Amko Basic

I was so upset that Gwen didn't listen to Peter, and she paid the ultimate price for it. She was being selfish, in my opinion. Andrew, the UK actor, did a phenomenal job. Jamie Foxx, the Oscar-winning Best Actor, was freaking amazing. Jamie always excels in any role he undertakes. Awesome reaction Kali!!! Thank you.

Jonathan

No, don't skip anything. You will miss important information.

Jonathan

Well... you've done it Kali, you've watched my 2 favourite Spider-Man movies... I will never get over this too, and Gwens death is actually her fate, sadly... And her death in this movie is actually fairly accurate to how it happened in the Comics. Earth 616 Peters (Canon comic book Peter/Spider-Man) first love is Gwen Stacy, and Peter never gets over her death, even Mary Jane in the comics which is qoute on qoute Peters "True Love" Recognizes this... That Peter never will ever truly love anyone like he did Gwen. And i Think someone mentioned this, but Andrew Garfield and Emma stone actually started dating during The Amazing Spider-Man 1 shootings, it sadly didnt last past this movie between them, but in a wierd way, I think it really shows how much these two poured into these characters... so much so that they actually WERE these characters, when they played Peter and Gwen, they dated in real life, but when they stopped playing Peter and Gwen, it also faded in real life, such amazing movies, and i would love for you to disclose after you have watched the rest of the Spider-Man movies, who your favourite Spider-Man is? And why! And remember that its your opinion no matter what, thats why you should not be afraid to disclose it. No matter what it is! No one will fault you for picking anyone, and if some do! Just blur it out, they dont matter and its just noise! Amazing reaction as always! (Pun intended ;) )

Kristoffer Smedegaard

I never forgot the sound of the crack as her head hit the floor when I first watched this

Daniel King

There is a lot of criticism that can be said about the writing and storylines of the different Spider-Man franchises and which people like the best. But one thing that comes through clearly watching the "Amazing" movies is that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are fantastic actors. Both of them have continued to grow and show their talent in their subsequent movies. I really hope you get to watch more of their work in the future. Even if you don't react to them for this channel, I highly recommend you watch Emma Stone in "The Help" and Andrew Garfield in "Tick, Tick, Boom"

Matthew

So glad no one spoiled that for you! People who watch reactors absolutely do not think about how even indirect comments are a type of spoiler, telling the reactor what to expect and shifting the tone of the reaction before it even happens. And some people think they're being clever and subtle, but it's always really obvious when they're hinting at something. Yep, it's an absolutely brutal twist, but it's executed so perfectly that you can't help but appreciate it. To me this movie gave us the best Peter Parker / Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield), the best Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), the best on-screen Spider-Man relationship (thanks to their real life chemistry), the best and most comic-accurate live action Spider-Man suit (though I still have a soft spot for the first film's suit too, with those dark eye visors) and the most impactful, comic-accurate Spidey story we've ever seen on film. This movie actually got trounced upon release, people were not happy with the villains and some people took issue with Gwen being killed off. I think a lot of people were burnt out on Spider-Man at the time, it was the 5th movie in 12 years and the second continuity. But for my money, this movie is better than anything from the Raimi trilogy. My favorite little easter egg from this movie: as Gwen is falling and the clock tower is crumbling, the hands on the clock come to rest right on the time 1:21. Amazing Spider-Man #121 is the original issue where Green Goblin killed Gwen Stacy in the same way. A chilling confirmation that she was dead before Peter ever checked on her.

Dude Longcouch

A quick fun fact but Harry’s assistant Felicia is actually a major character in the Spider-Man lore named Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat. Black Cat is a vigilante/thief who is also a love interest to Peter. The two often have a on again/off again relationship with flirty banter. We never see her suit up in costume in the film but her cameo was meant to set up a spin off about her but it got cancelled. She’s my favorite Spider-Man girlfriend btw lol. Love their chemistry. She has yet to properly be in a film yet but you can find her in the cartoons or games. :)

The Amazing Webhead

This movie like Tobey’s Spider-Man 3 was a result of studio meddling. After the success of the MCU with the first Avengers movie, studios wanted to do a cinematic universe including Warner Bros with DC comics, Legendary Pictures with Godzilla & King Kong, & Sony wanted to do one with Andrew’s Spider-Man. This movie was meant to be a set up for spin offs set in the Andrew universe that would include a film called The Sinister Six. The Sinister Six is a super villain team that comprise of Spider-Man villains. In the comics, the team were formed by Doctor Octopus to kill Peter. The ending for this movie was supposed to set up that spin off which is why we see Doc Ock’s arms & Vulture’s wings (the guy from Spider-Man Homecoming). Electro is also a member in the comics. Also why Harry sent Rhino at the end to see if he qualifies to be in the group. However all the other things in the story including Electro, Harry’s story, Peter & Gwen, Peter’s parents, etc made the film have too many subplots & clearly forced foreshadowing instead of just telling a good story. This resulted the film to gain a mixed reception. After the film underperformed, Sony cancelled everything and made the deal with Marvel/Disney to put Spider-Man in the MCU and casted Tom Holland. Even though Sony is working with Marvel for the Tom films, they still wanted to compete by making movies about Spider-Man villains such as the Venom films, Morbius, Madame Web, & Kraven The Hunter. The Venom movies were the only ones that made a profit & worth watching really. 😂 That could be a bonus thing to see before No Way Home (the first two at most). Ignore Morbius, Kraven, & Madame Web. We don’t talk about those lol.

The Amazing Webhead

I know everyone has an opinion on this, but you probably don't need to worry so much about stuff like "oh no I need to see the Sixth Sense before 50 First Dates" and the like; there are SO MANY movies with references and gags about other movies that you will exhaust yourself making sure you see X before Z but then oh no I have to see Y before X and so on . . . your whiteboard will end up looking like a conspiracy theorest's wall with strings connecting everything lol. ; )

Richard

Good thoughts on this film. This is probably the first time I might do three comments cause there’s lot to say lol. Firstly, this is Gwen’s fate in the comics. She died in Spider-Man #121 (1973) during a battle between Spider-Man & Green Goblin (who was Harry’s dad, Norman). During their fight, Gwen falls off a bridge, Peter tries to catch her with his webbing but the impact of it snapped her neck. Aside from Uncle Ben, Gwen’s death haunts Peter to this very day feeling responsible for it. It was also the story where Green Goblin was solidified as Spider-Man’s arch nemesis. Idk why Harry became Goblin first in this one when it’s usually his dad then him but whatever lol. You noticed how the scene with Harry & his dad, Norman had Goblin-like hands? 👀 Foreshadowing things that we will never see…The comic was a turning point in Marvel where they started to do more mature storytelling in their books. Gwen’s death in the comic did at some point push Peter & Mary Jane (who was Gwen’s friend) to grief, bond, & eventually fall in love. MJ would had been introduced in a third Amazing Spider-Man movie but it got cancelled.

The Amazing Webhead

Poor Kali, I knew you'd be wrecked by Gwen's death . . . One of the challenges with films like this is that it can be very tricky trying to write a sympathetic villain. You can't just be lazy or obvious like with Stane in Iron Man 1, just wanting power "bwahahaha". There has to be some emotional hook for the viewer, oftentimes it can involve the villain's loved ones or maybe their warped perspective due to abuse or trauma in their past. I feel Marvel has overall done a pretty good job with their "villains", not just having them be caricatures of evil. I'm interested in your opinion Kali, do you agree Marvel has done a good job with that? Not pertinent to this specific Spider-Man film, but . . . . I thought it was REALLY cool when you said the train scene from Spider-Man 2 is your favorite superhero scene. To me, that says a lot about your character. The airport scene in Civil War and the big action scenes in Infinity War and Endgame might seem obvious and full of eye-popping spectacle, but that scene in SM2 is so focused on ONE individual and his mortal struggle and that is something that always clicks with you. It's intensely focused; he has no one to help him, all those lives are on him alone and you can see it on his face. And he's just a kid. Very compelling, and then the actions of the citizens on the train just wrap it up with a truly heartwarming bow. All 5 of these OG spider-man movies did a great job of portraying how often he is "truly alone" and bears all that crushing weight. Yes you CAN absolutely skip those movies you mentioned! Get to No Way Home and then Multiverse of Madness because they are connected. Kali, this reaction is a classic example of why we love you so much! So beautiful and heartfelt and genuine and just the best of what makes humans special.

Richard

This movie is so all over the place for me. Just as messy if not more than Spider-Man 3 but also amazing moments as well.

FigLeaf Bicarbonate

Man, was this movie such a painful one to watch. It had the entire structure of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 2 when it came to theme, but I felt the pain and struggle in this one so much more. Like I've stated before, Gwen and Peter had such amazing chemistry, and it's unfortunate that their love story was tragically cut short like this. The emotion that Andrew Garfield presented in this movie is what made him my favorite Peter Parker overall. Unlike the first movie, I loved this one instantly. And it made me reconsider my thoughts on the first one. One small gem that I love is that when Peter webbed Gwen's hand to the car and she called out his name, according to behind the scenes, that was something that Emma Stone accidentally said and even to her own shock she covered her mouth because she realized that she said his identity out loud. The line was just supposed to be "Spider-Man" but the director loved that take and her reaction, so they used it. I'm happy to see you continue this Spider-Man journey. And although I am very excited and eager for you to get to "No Way Home", I do think that it would help much more to just stick to the release order; Although, I wouldn't be mad if you skipped to it, but just stating my opinion. Thank you for the for sharing your reaction with us!

iameNeRG (Rodney Gant)

Man I almost gave you a tissue warning in the comments of the last spider man reaction. Not to spoil, but just not thinking. I’m glad I didn’t . Also super excited for into the spider verse. Im not big on cartoons, but that one is a banger lol.

Phil Tilly

When the Stacys' showed up in Spider-man 3, I was excited where this would lead. Ultimately nowhere, but I'm glad they were the focus for these Andrew Garfield movies. Stan Lee had always joked the readers thought they had a grudge for the Stacy family, as Stan wrote Captain Stacy's Death, and Gerry Conway wrote Gwen's (without consulting Stan) When Emma Stone stepped out wearing Gwen's iconic green jacket and boots, my heart sank because I knew what was coming next.

Fred Aczon

Oh man.. So this is actually her fate in the comic books? It hurt so bad. The whole time I just couldn't believe it. And I don't think that would be a terrible idea, actually. I'm not sure if Shang-Chi, Eternals, and Hawkeye have anything important in them. Maybe you know? Or would it be fine to just end my time with No Way Home.. I don't want to upset people from straying from the timeline lol. I know I did do Loki Season 1 out of order, but I thought it was a rewatch at the time and didn't think it was too big a deal. But I know some were upset.

Kali Wali

This makes me REALLY wish they wouldn't have fought over rights and could have made a third one happen. It would have been such an epic story to see how Peter could navigate this kind of grief and loss. It would have been really beautiful movie.. Sigh lol

Kali Wali

Gwen’s fate is one of those key moments in comic book history. As a comics reader, I appreciated they stuck to it, but it was still so hard to watch. Gwen is so great in this series. It would have been interesting to see them try to transition to MJ. They actually originally had MJ in this movie but they cut her scenes and were just going to feature her next movie, but it never got made. Also, I know you are taking a break from the MCU, and it has been fun seeing you check out other properties. But have you considered capping off your spider man series with Spider Man No Way Home? I think it would be a great way to finish this journey.

Joe

oh boy let the tears flow. I’m glad you didn’t get any hints or clues with how this one ended. I was in the theaters for this one and was like no, no you didn’t. I didn’t want to believe they killed off Gwen Stacy. I really wish there had been a movie after this. Could you imagine how good of a story there could have been seeing how Peter comes back from this?

TheJoeKerr

Ahh that's awesome! They really do have deep emotional depth. Through most of the Peter and Peter/Gwen scenes I felt like we were just a fly on the wall in their everyday life. Both of these films felt so real and honest! I loved them for that

Kali Wali

I'm excited to get into the DCU! But now you make me nervous haha

Kali Wali

Really glad you liked Andrews movies. They were the ones I watched when I was in middle school so they resonated with me the most. They have some real emotional depth

PrincessLayup

Man if spiderman can make her feel like this I can't wait for the eventual dc reactions lol
