In books they left the body of the dead king for a fortnight before letting people know that he's dead. They used that time to scheme everything and get allegiances sorted. The smell of the rotting body was no longer possible to hide and hence proceeded with the funeral. Also I think Alicent never imagined herself kn the throne. She's always been a puppet of the men in her world esp her father. And thats led her to be in control and power to put the right people in place and yet never saw herself as a queen. Also u need to understand she can't be a sole queen being a non Targaryen. So Aegon was all he had in her mind. When Rhaneys asks that question and makes the "make a window in you wall of prison" comment, she tried to see if she had such ambitions and realised Alicent didn't imagine herself as queen. It was also what triggered her to stand up against her father and take Ageon under her wing to avoid bloodshed

2022-10-21 14:12:44 +0000 UTCEven if alicent misunderstood visery words, she knows her son is a r@pist and likes to watch little kids in the fighting ring including his bastards but yet she is willing to put him on the iron throne. Shames rhaenyra for “sleeping with her uncle, you targs have queer customs” but proceeds to marry her two oldest children together. She is a hypocrite hiding behind her own righteousness. She cared more about the throne then her children and forgot how to raised them properly while rhaenyra having the weight of being heir and alot of ppl against her, still managed to raise her kids right.
