Chapter 59: High Priest, Cool

The moment Williams gave the order to attack, the mass of flesh embedded in the rock wall erupted in a gush of pungent blood, and an explosion rumbled from the depths below. The blood-tinged air spread out.

This also interrupted the actions of the Inquisitors, including Mike.

The hand grenade thrown by Amber was kicked into the air and exploded, and he was also blown away by the shockwave, rolling into the midst of the innocent civilians.

When the fragments of the dome began to collapse, he realized something was wrong, struggling to get up and shouting, "Not good! This place is collapsing, everyone run, run as far as you can!"

David quickly helped him up, his face pale with worry, complaining, "Oh my Amber, you are a good person, you're so brave!"

"The first thing I learned at the police academy was not to succumb to evil forces."

Amber spat out a mouthful of blood.

Even while complaining, the two of them still did their best to cover the retreat of the innocent civilians, just as they had done in the ruined city before, purely out of their character.

The Necro Cult members were unfazed by the falling debris, staring intently at them.

"When I was bullied back then, why didn't I meet such upright inspectors?" Matthew watched the scene, taking a revolver from his waist and taking aim.

"Uncle, watch out behind you!"

A child among the civilians suddenly shouted out with courage.

David and Amber suddenly dropped and lay down, the bullet almost grazing their hair.

At that moment, a huge rock fell from the sky, heading towards their heads.

Amber's eyes flickered, and at the critical moment, he tackled the others to the ground. His own back seemed to have become a shield.

With a bang, the huge rock was kicked to pieces, the shards exploding.

The people who had narrowly escaped looked up to see a young man surrounded by azure electric arcs, his high kick having pulverized the hundred-pound boulder!

"Mike!"

David and Amber were both surprised.

"Long time no see, Amber, and you too, David, how come you're everywhere?" Mike stretched his muscles, allowing the debris to fall around him, looking at the collapsing altar and the Necro Cult disciples, "Hurry and run, or it'll be too late."

It was not the time, David and Amber exchanged a glance, and they began to lead the civilians to evacuate, continuing the work they had left here, only to add trouble to the young man.

"Celestial System, Thunder?" Matthew saw the sudden arrival of the young man, and he was quite surprised. To his surprise, there was also a hint of admiration and envy.

"I thought the one coming would be Williams."

He tilted his head and took a sip of his drink, smiling slightly.

"Oh, sorry to disappoint you, but I have a score to settle with you." Mike cracked his knuckles, sensing that the people behind him were leaving, finally able to let loose.

Matthew shook his head regretfully, "Sorry, I don't recognize the likes of you. Looks like Avalon City has no talents these days. Thanks to my brilliant plan to kill the High Priest, there's no one worthy enough to be an audience here."

This statement took Mike by surprise - the High Priest had already died! He immediately associated it with the paintings he had seen that morning.

Isabelle's paintings were highly accurate predictions that could help him complete his goals with more direction, just like when he went out on an investigation mission yesterday.

His reaction this time was also very quick, or else he wouldn't have immediately notified Williams.

They had smoothly found this place, but unfortunately, they were too late.

What's more surprising is that the High Priest died today. This legendary powerhouse died so abruptly, wasn't it too hasty?

"But anyway, you're all Inquisitors of the Heresy Tribunal, aren't you? Can Williams hear me? I see you're all wearing earpieces, so you must be able to hear me, right?" Matthew suddenly got excited again, turning to point at the huge mass of flesh, gesturing wildly.

"Do you know what this is?" he said excitedly, "This is the flesh and blood of a deity! It's much bigger than you can imagine, it's already corroded the entire underground ruins. What you're seeing is just the end where it releases its bloody aura."

The flesh and blood worshipped on this altar was just the tip of the iceberg. For in the dark, deep recesses of the rock tunnels, one could occasionally see its exposed membranes and muscle blocks - it was like a giant blood-red serpent, running through the entire underground space.

The crevices in the rock wall and the soil on the ground are permeated with a thick, bloody aura.

It seems to have been severely eroded.

"Of course, after killing the High Priest, it has fulfilled its mission."

Matthew took a blood-red reagent from his pocket, "Now I'm going to make it explode, the entire underground district will explode with a loud noise, and then the surface will also collapse... Those living on the surface in bright and gorgeous clothes will ascend to heaven together with the smelly rats underground."

Just as everyone was about to stop him, he casually threw the reagent.

"Just kidding, how could I do that now?"

He shrugged, "I've already injected the reagent before the explosion."

Damn, who are you trying to fool?

Mike suddenly snapped his fingers, signaling to attack!

Boom!

Damon charged in ferociously, crashing into the group of Necro Cult followers like a meteor, the huge impact flinging them away, kicking up a cloud of dust.

This scene evoked four words.

Firm as a rock!

Rose descended from the sky, her hands forming a scorching air cannon!

With a bang, the steam exploded, but Matthew's figure had vanished from the spot.

"Be careful!"

Mike suddenly looked up, seeing the guy floating in the air.

Matthew suddenly blew a breath, and a violent hurricane suddenly swept through the underground space!

The huge wind pressure immediately blew everyone away, slamming them against the walls like cannonballs, as if their bodies were being torn apart by the sharp wind blades, stinging with pain.

Mike struggled through the pain and looked up, only to see the other party dive down with the wind, his right hand condensing a sharp wind blade, cutting towards his neck.

Lightning suddenly screeched, and he dodged to the side with an explosive force, striking out with a punch.

With a bang, Matthew easily caught his fist.

"Guess what level I am?"

His palm was shrouded in a layer of airflow, blocking the spread of the electric current.

"I don't give a damn what level you are."

Mike's breathing and heartbeat were like wild beasts, and a scorching glow flashed in his clenched fist, the scattered light and heat radiating out.

The crystal chip given to him by Williams was crushed!

Mike's right hand was released due to the sensation of the heat wave.

Suddenly, a scorching fire dragon manifested out of thin air, roaring as it broke through the airflow barrier.

Boom!

Matthew was blasted away by the exploding fire dragon, half his body already charred, crashing hard onto the collapsing altar, coughing up a mouthful of fresh blood.

A devastating blow!

Mike looked at his right hand, completely dumbfounded.

It turns out those crystal chips were sealing Williams' Praxis!

"Is this the power of the Saints? It's so strong!"

Matthew laughed out loud, "Interesting, really interesting, haha!"

When Damon and Rose swooped in again from both sides, he suddenly suppressed his laughter.

"I'm not playing with you anymore, bye!"

Matthew turned and ran, the huge mass of flesh and blood rumbling.

The entire underground space was shaking, with debris falling from the collapsing dome.

Occasionally, charred corpses would also fall, shattering on impact.

They were people of considerable status.

They fell from the surface district to the underground streets, then plunged into the bottom of the space.

It was like falling from heaven to hell.

Meanwhile, Matthew had taken advantage of the chaos to run into the dark depths, where countless rocky corridors were, disappearing in the blink of an eye, with some Necro Cult followers following him.

Just like a group of naughty children who had done something wrong.

Only they were a million times more evil than regular naughty children.

"Williams."

Mike still had two crystal chips in his hand, his electric-tinged eyes growing fierce.

As expected, the desired order was transmitted through the earpiece.

"Chase!"

"Oh my great goddess, did you see that? I did it! I did it! A rat like me from the sewers managed to kill the great High Priest! The power of my lord is truly omnipotent. It turns out that when the immortal power is reversed, it can release endless energy!"

Matthew ran frantically in the dark corridor, with rolling pebbles falling beside him, exposing the grim tendons and flesh in the rock walls, looking like he was in the belly of a monster.

Occasionally, huge boulders would roll down from above, accompanied by piercing screams.

Some people were smashed to the ground, splattering crimson blood.

This only made him more excited.

Among the people who had fallen to the bottom, many were the High Priest's bodyguards, or the accompanying priests and nuns. They were badly injured by the exploding polluted blood and managed to survive the fall by various means, now lying in the corners, barely clinging to life.

"Chishui, kill them all."

Matthew didn't even glance at them. "Clean up and get out of here quickly, this place is about to explode. Once you're out, you're on your own. If any of you get caught by the students of the High Priest or the scholars from the Smith family, I'll detonate the Dark Matter inside you!"

He then ran off around the corner and disappeared.

However, he didn't notice one thing.

Among the survivors, there was a pair of cold, piercing eyes watching him.

A withered and scrawny Necro Cult acolyte remained behind. He raised his half-rotten, ugly face and looked at the trembling survivors, licking his lips. "Servants of the High Priest, hmm? You high and mighty folk usually don't even glance at the likes of us, do you?"

As an injured guard tried to get up, the acolyte slashed his neck with a knife. The blood sprayed out and the acolyte laughed maniacally.

"Come to think of it, I've never tasted the flesh of the priestesses in the sanctuary before."

The Necro Cult acolyte named Chishui grinned ominously.

Among the survivors, a beautiful young priestess raised her head. Her eyes were as deep and vast as the ocean, seemingly filled with raging storms, her gaze piercing and chilling to the bone.

She was inconspicuous among the crowd, looking like an ordinary priestess. But if one gazed into her eyes, they could feel a tremendous pressure.

Olivia's condition was currently very poor. Having already expended much of her energy, she was forced to use her last-resort survival technique in the attack, leaving her even weaker. Her remaining power was dwindling.

The best course of action would be to escape while she had the chance. But in her hundred-plus years, she had never run away like a coward from any crisis she had faced.

Chishui didn't notice her presence and instead grabbed a young, innocent-looking priestess, tearing at her clothes with a sinister grin before biting down on her!

The injured priestess had no strength left to resist, and could only cry out in despair as she closed her eyes.

Just as Chishui was about to sink his teeth into the priestess's neck, a faint glow suddenly appeared.

Slap!

A resounding slap landed on Chishui's face, searing him with holy light and causing him to howl in pain.

The strike was authoritative, ruthless, and powerful - the kind a strict headmistress would give to a troublemaker outside the school. It wasn't something someone without decades of experience could pull off.

Olivia shielded the young priestess behind her, distastefully shaking her hand as if it had been dirtied.

Unexpectedly, the slap only seemed to further enrage Chishui. He whipped his head around and lunged at the infuriating woman like a starving monkey.

"Insolence."

Oliver saw the look in his eyes, her gaze glittering with cold hostility. How dare this filthy, ugly creature look at her with such eyes!

The remnants of holy light coalesced within her, causing her hair and clothes to billow as if by an unseen force.

Chishui's body erupted in a series of crackles and pops, his left side becoming undead and sprouting hard thorns, mutating towards the aberrant. Olivia was quite surprised, as this evolutionary path signified powerful abilities - the Immortal Power.

Generally, aberrants would quickly disintegrate when touched by her holy light. But Chishui did not, instead lunging at her in a frenzy of bites and tears.

Olivia dodged left and right. In truth, the High Priests were not the combat-oriented type - their miracles were incredible, but not suited for one-on-one fighting. However, before becoming a High Priest, Olivia had always been active on the battlefield.

Her holy light flaring along her arm, she suddenly lashed out with her right hand! There was a crunch as she impaled Chishui's chest, the undead flesh sizzling. But his sharp claws also grazed her cheek, severing a lock of her hair.

This was the most serious injury Olivia had sustained in decades. No, not just that. There was even a faint line of blood on her cheek.

Enraged, strands of holy light coalesced into shackles, locking Chishui's hands as they sizzled. The aberrant roared and strained, breaking the holy chains, only to be met with a volley of holy light arrows that impaled his shoulders.

The excruciating pain contorted his features, and he shuddered, lashing out thorns in all directions. Olivia raised her hand, summoning a holy light barrier to block the attack.

"You are no ordinary priestess!" Chishui growled, his face grotesque. "Are you a student of the High Priest?"

Fool. This was the power of the divine, only accessible to the High Priests. Even their chosen students had no right to wield it before their succession.

Unless the High Priest had deliberately dispersed their power.

Olivia's gaze was icy cold as holy light coalesced into a sword, thrusting it forth.

However, at that moment, the ground began shaking again, raining down debris. Olivia's injury flared up, momentarily disorienting her, and causing the sword's aim to falter.

Chishui eyed his chance and swiped at her wrist with one claw!

Crack!

Blood gushed out and the lightsaber fell!

Olivia quickly grabbed the falling lightsaber with her left hand, but saw her opponent charging towards her!

Bang!

Olivia was slammed against the rock wall, her body making a sound like shattering jade.

The lightsaber had pierced through Chishui's body, purifying the deformities within him.

But Chishui seemed determined to trade his life for hers.

"With my life, I'll take yours. Sounds like a fair trade."

Crimsonwater let out a deranged laugh and tried to lunge forward to bite her.

Olivia was outraged at such an affront.

Just as she was considering how to resolve this predicament, a piercing sound of something slicing through the air echoed from the end of the tunnel, along with the crackling of electricity and rapid footsteps.

"Hey, found a live one! Time for justice!"

Boom!

A gust of wind ruffled Olivia's bangs.

The Necro Cult disciple in front of her had vanished.

Chishui was now slammed against the rock wall, his rotting, ugly face subjected to over a dozen savage punches, like a crushed coconut, his brain matter splattering.

Each punch carried a violent electric arc, utterly ruthless.

Chishui's head was smoking from the electrification.

After the electrotherapy session, Mike grabbed his head with both hands and yanked.

Crack!

The body separated from the head.

"There, now it's a dead one."

Mike's eyes were filled with electric sparks as he surveyed the area.

"Who's next?"

The survivors trembled, finding this person more terrifying than the Necro Cult disciples.

Olivia quietly lifted her gaze, looking at this electrified youth.

She seemed stunned.

"Don't be afraid, you're safe now. Though I came to pursue another life one, protecting innocent lives is our top priority." Mike's raging life energy gradually settled, the violent electric arcs dissipating from his body.

The nun seemed a bit dazed, not sure if she was scared or captivated by him.

He patted her shoulder, "So, was your buddy just now awesome or what?"

Olivia glanced at the hand on her shoulder, pausing for a second.

"Awesome."
