It's times like this that I miss the message boards they used to have on IMDB. I think Night Fifty would generate lots of interesting insights on a forum like that.

2022-06-24 09:02:35 +0000 UTCI watched about 20 minutes of Night Fifty and will finish it tonight. Technically speaking, the cinematography is not exactly the best I've seen. Bute the atmosphere is incredible! It's raw, it's fucked up... it's mesmerising! With a bigger budget, this might have been big. I actually like it better than Go-Go Motel (which left me kind of feeling dirty and itchy). About the podcast: Boy, do I remember the time in the early 2000s when everybody was trying to get their hands on a Canon XL-1 (later XL-2) and the Mini35 adapter (which added "film look" to video and reduced the DOF by putting a cinematic lense in front of the video camera... does anybody remember that hype?)! And when they got their expensive equipment, they realised they had no ideas (or just shitty ideas) of what to film, or they couldn't write a script. That was when low/no-budget became so fixated on "film look" (which basically meant nothing but reduced DOF) and some weird idea of technical perfection that it eventually died. Glad to hear that you (Dan) are feeling better, that Margie & Scott is coming, that you're going to film some new ADR. Can't wait!
