Glad to hear about Ace, after his racist, misogynist tweets it’s the least the universe could have given him. Other than Dan and Sal, Unicom Productions is the only other good mall channel.

2022-07-05 22:22:03 +0000 UTCDead Mall Series is what got me first hooked on your content, Dan, but I agree 100% with your decision. You left a tall mark on the genre that only a few (like Sal and Retail Archeology) can deliver the experience like you did.

2022-07-05 17:04:44 +0000 UTCI started watching in 2018 with the K Mart video. My love of that store and memories associated with it had me looking at Youtube videos trying to feel something akin to what walking into the store felt like. I don’t exactly agree with Sal that it’s Dan Bell’s persona that attracted me to the Dead Mall series; it was your intent in documenting the decline of a once thriving capitalistic environment that fooled us all. David Byrne said that malls could be the modern day cathedrals in True Stories. We are still watching these places we held as sacred decline. Your production, the music, and editing kept my attention. Your persona doesn’t really come through in the Dead Mall series like with the podcast or Film It channel. The copycats are missing your eye. They lack the same intent.

2022-07-05 12:34:12 +0000 UTCDan, I think you should take a long-term break from it, honestly. The market is too saturated with other content that I feel even your high-value content will get crowded out in the process. Perhaps on down the line, if the passion is still there, and if today's popular malls start to decline and shutter, that is when you should pick it back up, if you so choose. At the end of the day, it's your initial claim to fame but it's just one weapon in your arsenal. I love practically everything you do, so just do whatever you have the passion for. Also this podcast with Sal was pretty interesting, I've heard of Sal but never checked out his content. Seems like it's generally worth a watch. I do, as a fan of Nate, have to clear the air about some of the things Sal said as they are untrue. Nate had bought his RV back in 2019, and spent much of 2020 repairing it. In July 2020, he attempts to take his RV out on his first trip, and that's when he got the call that Virginia would pass away very soon, and later said that he could not see her at all in the nursing home because of the pandemic (she ended up holding out until October if I recall correctly) but Nate held out until October camping at 1 or 2 different spots in the general OH/PA area until October to leave on his trip. They were not married, she even said on the film roll in tribute to her that she was too old to get married again. Her name is not Rambaud on her obituary and Nate is listed as a friend of all things on the thing. Unless they had an agreement, which I highly, highly doubt, there was no life insurance money collected or could even be collectible from her at all by Nate. Anyway, this led to meeting his current wife but this was after Virginia had passed or was about to pass. Was it a little quick? It would be for me, and it would likely be so for most people. But Nate found something in his current wife and we really shouldn't judge him for that. From what I can tell, they seem to be in love and he's not the kind of guy that would just date/marry for life insurance money. Also, with the Tosh.0 thing. His sister is a big fan of the show. Because of this, he probably watched quite a bit of it himself so he probably knew he was going to get roasted by Tosh (he might've even said as much to him off-camera), welcomed it and played along with it just fine. Sal has some of the minor details right, but (and this is just from my vantage point, feel free to take it with a grain of salt, I'm not an expert, nor am I close friends with Nate, just someone who's in a couple groups with him, he's such a down to earth and nice guy. I've even had a couple minor exchanges with the guy and he's about the same in real life as he is on camera.) Sal paints the events in a much more negative/offending light than what really happened, and it's sad to hear him talk about Nate like that. If Sal had just called him an idiot like Wallie (which to each their own, I guess, I really like Wallie's content too, don't really see a problem with it, Dan even complimented one of his videos) I would've just left it alone, but I think Sal hit a little below the belt with what he said. And that's a shame because Sal seems like an overall interesting guy and a great fill-in for Rick on the podcast (prayers for Rick's mom btw). Rant concluded.

2022-07-05 05:31:23 +0000 UTCI agree. Dan's mall videos are the best on YT and only second behind the urbex series for me. That's how I initially found him. Despite the copycats out there, Dan should continue. At the very least, don't kill the series completely in the event that he stumbles across a dead mall gem in the near future.

2022-07-04 21:05:01 +0000 UTCDan: look, I get that you think OTHER peoples' mall vids make up for your absence from the genre, but you're WRONG. You do the mall videos BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE, PERIOD. Sal is a very close second, IMHO, and the Proper People are a strong third. Hell, I even love Doomie Grunt's mall vids, but they're NOT a Dan Bell substitute! Look, I GET that you're burned out on the whole mall thing, but we, your fans, still love your work because it was -- and IS -- second-to-NONE. Seriously!! I mean, SHIT; do you think Ace's fucking Adventures is gonna take your place? REALLY? I love you soooo much, Dan, but you're a real TURD sometimes...

2022-07-04 20:06:56 +0000 UTCWith Margie & Scott, release the PG version on YouTube and then release the “R rated director’s cut” on Patreon. I’m sure you’ll get a ton of new patrons to come see the more gritty version with the infamous“frog scenes”.
