Tl:dr – Focus is transitioning back to Pico-8. Any song requests?
With Slipways released, Bebop Isolation winding down, and my 8000-word jazz piano article complete, I’m ready to reset and reprioritize. And there’s no better place to do that than Pico-8! Here are a few Pico-8 projects I’d like to explore over the next few months:
Ambient & Lo-Fi Pico-8 Music
Chiptune and ambient music don’t usually go together. Let’s change that! Ideally, I’d like to compose a new album of chill Pico-8 music, including ambient and lo-fi styled tracks. I haven’t explored this much in Pico-8 beyond a few sketches here and there, so an entire album might be too ambitious. But expect to see some WIPs soon.
More Pico-8 Tunes
An album of ambient & lo-fi music is cool, but not always practical for game development. I’d also like to write another cart full of tunes for use in Pico-8 games. This music will be in the style of Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and this unreleased Vol. 3. With Pico-8’s new filters (especially Inst0 + detune) there’s a new dimension to be explored there.
Pico-8 Requests
Anything from C64 music to Vulfpeck! Requests are a good way to reach beyond the Pico-8 community and show off its capabilities. They also help give the creative muscles a break, so I really appreciate them. Send me your requests!
Other Projects
There are always projects in the queue. My mixing lessons continue, and I eventually want to release some original piano music. I also have these hand-written transcriptions that I’d like to input into Finale. Posting these will take the place of writing jazz piano articles for the next few months. Next up is Thelonious Monk!
