Update - Art changes, goals, and no more $3 tier!
Added 2019-01-06 22:33:25 +0000 UTCHi guys ♥ I've sat and made some more changes to my Patreon. I know I've been tweaking things kind of left and right, so thank you for bearing with me, haha.
By the way, the poll is coming tomorrow! I haven't forgotten.
New year, new me
2018 was a wild ride! I learned a lot about myself, what I want out of my art, my Patreon, and my connections with all of you. There was a lot of bad, but also a lot of good, I feel good about it in the end!
Around the middle of the year, I realized how important psychology and sexuality are to me as subjects... and now, in 2019, I really I want to incorporate both of those into my work. I've spent 10 years doing art for other people, and I want to keep doing that - some of my favorite drawings last year were your suggestions - but I need to really listen to what calls to me, too. I love dark stuff! I love kinda weird stuff! I love a lot of different things, for a lot of different reasons, and I want to stop limiting myself based on what I think will be palatable to other people.
I wrote about this in a Twitter thread, too, just to get it out. It's one of the first times I've really talked about it, and it cemented a lot of my feelings.
My first step in this direction is my front page - rewritten to acknowledge this at least in broad terms. I'll probably keep tweaking it throughout the month, too.
If you've been a patron for longer than a week, it might be new to you! I'm not planning to stop anything I'm already doing - Paige is staying adorable, and Morgan's coming back soon - but I'm adding things. 2019 is going to be pretty different, content-wise.
On the light-hearted end, I really just want to do more feral stuff like the Cynder piece, more rule34 in general, and playing with cute incest slice of life drawings with Brooke. On the darker end, I want to dive deeper into things like Trish's predatory nature, and expand on some characters that are violent, unhealthy, and abusive.
I say in the Twitter thread that I want to write an FA journal, but before that, I'm going to write a longer Patreon post. More specifics about what I'll be doing, and also some thinking out loud as to why. I want to be as clear about it, both for my own peace of mind, and so you can decide for yourselves if you want to come on that journey with me.
I'll try and have that up by next weekend.
Of course, if you're reading this right now, and you don't think it's your thing, then that's okay too!I don't want anyone to feel bad if they drop their pledge after this. I'm thankful for everyone who's supported me up until this point, because I wouldn't be able to even dream of taking this step if it weren't for you.
Goals
When I hit my $250 goal and added the two art tiers, that put me really close to the next goal, which was $400 at the time. I realized that I hadn't thought things through very well, so I've been working on how to re-balance things so I can stop having things sneak up on me, haha.
So I bumped the first goal to $500, and the one after to $750, and tweaked both of them so they feel a bit more fitting for the amount. I also left some things vague so that I have room to get them set in stone once I'm actually close to hitting those goals.
Those are also on the front page!
I have a couple ideas for down the line, but most of them are too small to really be a goal thing, so I'm planning to sprinkle them in every couple months or something instead.
It took me a year to get to this point, but I guess late is better than never!
No more $3 tier
In a way this feels like the biggest change, but I also think it's a really good one.
The $3 tier has always been really sparse. It's something I added right off the bat, when I launched a year ago, but I think I jumped the gun on it. It's been a struggle to keep up with it over time, and with all the art and subject matter changes I mentioned up top, I honestly don't believe it's a big enough part of what I want to do to warrant being it's own tier.
So away it goes!
I still want to do this kind of content - GIFs, discussion posts, journalling about my studies, getting into simple videos like I said I would - it's fun for me, and artists and non-artists alike seem to really enjoy it! But since it's really not consistent, I don't feel right asking you for $2 extra dollars for it. I'd rather you put that toward supporting another artist or two!
From now on, all the $3 rewards will be when-I-have-time rewards for $1 patrons. I'll go back and make the $3+ posts available to everyone sometime this week.
Right now the tier is simply unpublished, so no one new can pledge there. In three weeks, on January 27th, I want to delete it entirely.
If you're one of my $3 patrons, be sure to select one of my other tiers before then! If you’re still in at that tier when it’s deleted, you’ll still be my patron, but you’ll be a “no benefit” patron, and won’t have the same access as you currently do.
If you're not sure how to edit your pledge, this page should help. If you still want to give me precisely $3, you should be able to select the $1 tier and edit the amount.
Before the tier is deleted, I'll message anyone who hasn't edited their pledge, too.
Pay up Front
Lastly, I'm finally going to switch to Pay Up Front this month. For simplicity's sake, I'm also gonna do that on the 27th, haha.
I think that's all for now! I've been typing so much, I gotta go draw, or I'm gonna go nuts.
