Rendering can just generally mean "translating" a reference into an image. "Artistic rendering of the Brooklyn bridge" would e.g. be a painting or a sculpture of said bridge that can be more or less realistic. More commonly it can mean refining the shapes laid out, getting more into the details, turning a structural sketch into an image with a three-dimensional quality. Hope that makes some sense, please correct me if I'm wrong :)
