Cass, OMG. I am rolling on the floor... "Is he eating at this point?" Oh, man... so funny. RED MAN.. Chewing tobacco.

Daniel Doble

The guy who created the computer program is Sabrina’s dad, the chaeuffer, from the remake. I can’t believe it took you that long to recognize Whitey. I initially thought it was edited out because I thought his voice was so recognizable and you’d have known it was him immediately.

Cole Jennett

As with several of these movies, it's been a while since I've seen this one. I've always enjoyed it, but it is very 80's. The two guys in the beginning are John Spencer and Michael Madsen. They would become more popular in future movies; I had no idea they were in this. The one thing about the movie that I find least believable is that they let the kid take control in the end, instead of the professor. I'm sure they wanted to keep broad appeal and the PG rating. Seeing Matthew Broderick and John Wood together makes me think of "Ladyhawke."

Stephen Dias

The MNF watching scene is hilarious!!

Shawn Kildal

Surprised it was #1 I have seen it .

Tim C

yes it did

Cassie

"it's the microphone..." Some how... I'm skeptical.

Carlos Stevens

oh I was trying to figure out whose face that was...

Mannygogou

Was just coming to bring this up, sad news but at the same time: what a time he had in this life, and now I'm sure he's being welcomed into the next adventure by some of his old friends from the program, such as the Apollo 1 crew.

Chris B.

Jim Lovell, the Commander of Apollo 13, passed away today at age 97(!). I know the movie of the same name with Tom Hanks really moved Cassie. Lovell actually had a cameo in that as the admiral who meets the Apollo 13 crew on the carrier deck. God's speed, sir, and thank you for your service and leadership.

What a good list. My favorites off your list: THE PHILADEPHIA STORY OUT OF SIGHT (George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez) THE HORSE WHISPERER (Scarlett Johansson at 13 years old) THE ENGLISH PATIENT

Clay F

Winter came for Cassie last night...she started GoT. 😳

Joe J

A random list of Romance/Romatic Comedies/Star-Crossed Romances that Cassie has yet to see. (ADDED: Cassie and Carly — knowing your long-abiding Health Ledger love/swoonage, CASSANOVA is a very underated film that you must see somewhere along the way, whether for The Channel™ or in the screening room with your gfs/female cousins). HIS GAL FRIDAY (Cary Grant, Rosalind Russel) HOLIDAY (Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn) THE PHILADEPHIA STORY (Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart) CASSANOVA (Health Ledger, Sienna Miller) THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS (Michael J Fox, Helen Slater, Margaret Whitton) DOC HOLLYWOOD (Michael J Fox, Julie Warner) MOONSTRUCK (Nicholas Cage, Cher) MARRIED TO THE MOB (Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Modine) SOMETHING WILD (Melanie Griffith, Jeff Daniels) GET SHORTY (John Travolta, Rene Russo, Gene Hackman) OUT OF SIGHT (George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez) THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo) THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS (Michelle Pfeifer, Jeff Bridges, Beau Bridges) A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT (Audrey Tautou, Gaspard Ulliel, Jodie Foster) THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY (Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep) THE HORSE WHISPERER (Robert Redford, Kristen Scott-Thomas) A ROOM WITH A VIEW (Julian Sands, Helena Bonham-Carter, Daniel Day Lewis) DR. ZHIVAGO (Omar Sharif, Julie Christie) THE ENGLISH PATIENT (Ralph Finnes, Juliet Binoche, Kristin Scott Thomas) OUT OF AFRICA (Meryl Streep, Robert Redford) WINGS OF DESIRE (Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin, Peter Falk) GONE WITH THE WIND (Clark Gable, Vivian Leigh) GIANT (Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean)

Clay F

+1 for Urban Cowboy +1 for The Philadelphia Story As for modern 'non-traditional' romances, I suggest: -Lost in Translation (2003) -Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I would like to see more romance on the channel.

Clay F

A good one for Father's Day next could be Max Dugan Returns 😀 Matthew Broderick is a kid in that one as well

Johnny Salinas

I thought she had already done this one. Maybe I watch too many reactors who have done this one. TBR Schmitt, JustSumm, Christie reacts are the only ones I watch.

Brian McGovern

That guy you recognized but didn't recognize was on "The West Wing" perhaps that's where you know him from.

TheSingulatarian

Cassie and Carly were bemoaning recently the lack of modern romance or romantic comedies. So, I say look back young woman look back. On the Town The Philadelphia Story In the Good Old Summertime Marty Easter Parade The Band Wagon Love Story The Way We Were Murphy's Romance An Affair to Remember Urban Cowboy And many, many more.

TheSingulatarian

A lot of that uncertainty back then came from an information vacuum. Take away the internet and this seems very plausible.

ArsTropica

There was also "The Invisible Boy" (1957) and other rampaging robot movies like "Gog" (1954).

TheSingulatarian

I hope her next '80's movie will be my Pick, "Best of Times" with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell....I won't rest until she sees this movie!!!

Chris Davis

This came out in June '83. Five months later we'd have another cinematic nuclear scare: made for tv movie "The Day After" (starring Jason Robards) aired on ABC. Sobering to say the least.

Bill W

The original Mac Guyver.

Bill W

3 people. Art La Fleur (The Sandlot, Field of Dreams) died in 2021. Also, Dabney Coleman died last year.

Bill W

Cassie, I like that you recognized that this was Whitey from OTH!

Cory H

You're younger than me -- I was 13 when this came out -- and it came in a context where we were expecting a nuclear war to break out at any moment. So this movie felt all too real. Watching it again with you shows that it has aged quite well (unlike some 80's movies). Just solid performances, musics and directing all around.

Michael Siegel

Seeing this on a movie screen with all the flashing towards the end was amazing! I loved this movie as a young man (it may have had something to do with how cute Ally Sheedy was)..

Chris

I think that Colossus: The Forbin Project (1969) was the first movie of the AI run-amok genre.

2-Can

Speaking of 80s movies: Today, Aug 7th, is the 40th anniversary of "Real Genius" with Val Kilmer... which has the BIGGEST popcorn scene of all time!

John Deardurff

Please do AIRPORT from 1970!!!

Frank

Dr. Strangelove. Soon please.

Stephen Malloy

"Greetings, Professor Popcorn! Shall we play a game?" 😁

Phil Stubblefield

Great work, Cassie. Gave me flashbacks of your "Crimson Tide" reaction. Greetings Professor Falken.

Mark Vaderr

yes! a few weeks ago!

Cassie

Is there a full-length reaction I missed on here?

Brent Petty

Totally forgot Michael Madsen was in this

Ace Degenerate

Just started watching and it is pretty sad that the first 2 people we see in this movie have passed. Michael Madsen only recently.

Brian McGovern

I would like to know, how many tried to make a phone call from a public phone using the method shown in this movie? 😄

Brian McGovern

Great 80's movie highlighting the Cold War. Thanks for reacting to it
