Biokinetic - Chapter 16

When Kenichi arrived near the girls, Mina was the first to greet him. She quickly bounced over to him and grabbed his arm in her excitement, “Hey! You got any cool ideas about my Quirk?!”

“Oh! Oh! Me too!” Came from an excitedly bouncing Hagakure.

Kenichi chuckled and nodded, “Sure, I think I can help you both.”

He focused on Mina since she asked first, “There's not much hidden depth to your Quirk as it's pretty straight forward. All I can say there is that you should keep practicing increasing the strength of your acid to get the pH as low as possible. Simultaneously practicing will let you increase your own acid resistance. All of that is pretty obvious though.”

Mina nodded looking slightly disappointed, “Yeah, I don't like doing that much because of how badly it hurts. Well, thanks anyway.”

Before she could walk away, Kenichi gently gripped her hand, “I might not be able to help with your Quirk directly, but I do have a few support item suggestions.”

Mina blinked in surprise, “Support items?”

Kenichi nodded, “First and foremost, dehydration is a serious issue with your Quirk so I don't understand why you don't have a hydration backpack at the very least. Heck, they can be pretty slim in design and you could easily have some armoring built onto the outside to protect not just it but your own back. It could easily be made out of acid proof or resistant materials as well.”

Mina blinked and slowly nodded, “Doesn't really go with my theme, but I can see the practicality of that. Anything else?”

“Oh yeah. Try to picture this. An arm mounted mini-canon made of acid proof or resistant materials and powered by compressed gas. Say high capacity CO2 cartridges for easy replacement. The breach is located on the bottom next to your arm so you can push in a glob of your most viscous acid. You'd have a reliable long range option that's easy to use. Alternatively, it could be designed in a manner that allows you to use the amount of acid you create and specialized tips to create specific streams of acid. Think similar to a pressure washer's tips. You could use the tips to increase the pressure and fire streams of acid with more precision and accuracy. It could do anything from a needle fine point to a wide fan.”

Mina's eyes grew wider and wider as Kenichi spoke. She had decent accuracy with her acid globs but that was what it always was. She could only use her Quirk to really generate globs or waves for long range attacks. Having something like the cannon could, potentially, give her even more range. The pressure washer inspired options would give her even more utility. It would just be a pain getting it all made out of acid resistant materials. Lots of replacements would be needed over time but it would be worth it!

The more she thought about it, the more excited by the possibilities she became until she couldn't take it anymore and threw her arms around Kenichi. As she squeezed him tightly she kept repeating, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

Once Mina let him go, Hagakure scampered over to him and seemed to be staring at him. He could just imagine the pleading look on her face and, judging by the angle of her sleeves, her clasped hands. He chuckled briefly at his imagination and then focused on her, “Actually, ever since I got a feel for your Quirk I've been meaning to ask you something. Why are you invisible all the time?”

He could practically hear the 'confused head tilt' when Hagakure replied, “Because that's my Quirk?”

Kenichi crossed his arms over his chest as he pondered how to handle this. In canon her Quirk did seem to be just invisibility... Or was it? She had eventually learned how to bend light to cause bright flashes and even redirected Aoyama's Navel Laser. Given what he learned from her genome and from his future knowledge, he didn't agree with her, “Sorry, but you're wrong. Your Quirk is a limited form of photokinesis”

“Uhm... What's photokinesis?”

“Full strength photokinesis is the ability to complete control light in every aspect. Yours is limited to simply bending light. You are not, technically, invisible. Rather, you've bent light around your body which prevents light from bouncing off of you into the retina's of people. The only reason I can imagine that you are always invisible is that you have never trained to gain control of your Quirk.”

His statement was meant with complete silence from all of the girls as they looked at Hagakure in surprise. Momo looked especially excited. She knew how powerful any kinesis-type ability could potentially be if the user had enough control and strength. Kenichi had practically pounded it into her head to never, ever, underestimate anyone that had any kind of kinesis-type ability or it could come back to bite her in the ass.

Hagakure made a confused sound as she, apparently, scratched her head in confusion, “Are you sure my Quirk isn't just invisibility? 'Cause that's what everyone has always said it was.”

Kenichi shrugged his shoulders in an uncaring manner, “Then they're wrong. If you were just transparent, you would be blind since light would just completely pass through your eyes. Bending light in such a way that prevents you from being seen without using your vision is the only way I know of for your invisibility to work without blinding you. How about a little experiment?”

He looked at Momo, “Could you make me a one gram cube of iron, please?”

Momo looked pleased to be asked for help and complied right away. It took only a matter of moments for her to generate a small cube of pure iron on the palm of her hand. Even after all this time he still found the light show put on by her Quirk to be quite beautiful. Once she passed it over to him, he held it out to Hagakure, “Place this on the palm of your hand.”

Hagakure did as asked but he could tell she was confused. He wasn't sure how and chalked it up to his superior sense, “Alright, now I want you to close your eyes. Focus on the feeling of your skin. Feel the air moving over it. Feel the warmth it radiates into the air. Let those feelings fill your mind.”

Kenichi let the silence build for a moment before he gently whispered, “Feel all of that and let it cover the small block in your hand.”

It was silent for a minute as everyone nearby watched the iron cube slowly fade out of sight. Once another minute passed the cube that had once been clearly visible and floating in the air was now invisible. Kenichi gave all the girls warning glances to remain silent to keep from ruining Hagakure's concentration. He let the silence remain for a bit longer before he quietly whispered, “Open your eyes and look at your hand Hagakure-san.”

Just a moment later they all heard a surprised gasp, “It's gone! But, I can still feel it sitting there!”

Kenichi nodded, “See? You do have control over your invisibility because that's not your Quirk. Bending Light is your Quirk. You just need a lot of practice to learn how to control it.”

Hagakure's focuse slipped and the cube was instantly visible again. She sounded like she was pouting as she spoke, “I could have been practicing this for ten years if those quacks hadn't gotten my Quirk wrong!”

Kenichi gently patted the shoulder of her gym uniform, “I understand. I've only used the full strength of my own Quirk for the last year. Still, now that you know you can practice. Though, if I was you I would focus on making yourself visible and other items invisible first. If you were to accidentally bend sunlight you could cause bright flashes of light or even energy beams to form.”

He felt the girl freeze and just knew she was looking at him with wide eyes, “I can learn to fire beams?”

He nodded but before he could speak Hagakure was jumping up and down in excitement, “I can fire BEAMS! I'M AWESOME!”

Everyone laughed at the excitement in Hagakure's voice as she bounced around happily. Her Quirk was so much cooler than she had thought and she couldn't wait to practice with it more. Once things calmed down a bit once more, Kenichi glanced over at Jiro, “How about you Jiro-san?”

The punk rock girl shook her head, “I'm good. If I need more I'll ask.”

They all got back to their exercise with little tips being passed around on how to make certain activities more worthwhile. Eventually, people began to trickle out to head home. Kenichi and Momo were the last ones to leave the gym. After a quick change they left the school. All in all, Kenichi thought that the day had gone rather well and he'd helped push quite a few of his fellow students further down their paths. He couldn't wait to see the results of their efforts.

-----Line Break-----

The next morning provided an interesting sight. Kenichi had somewhat remembered about the masses of media reporters that showed up. All Might teaching at the school was that big of a deal. If All Might and Nezu hadn't done the right thing with Bakugo yesterday, he would have used this incident to publicly lambaste the pair of them. Since they did the right thing he knew exactly what he was going to do.

He glanced at his sister and smiled, “Follow my lead.”

Once she nodded in acknowledgment, they made their way into the crowd of annoying reporters. Unfortunately, there was no law against them filming and attempting to interview the students. However! They also couldn't broadcast the interviews without parental consent as all the students were still minors. Clearly that didn't stop the vultures.

As they got closer one harpy of a reporter shoved a microphone into Kenichi's face and demanded, “What's it like to have All Might as a teacher?!”

Kenichi cleared his throat, “Well exceedingly rude woman who didn't bother to introduce herself or what station she is supposedly a reporter for. As a Business student I feel...”

That was as far as he got before the reporter violently grabbed her camera man and dragged him away from the pair. Kenichi actually pouted a bit. He had a whole speech on how All Might's presence would not only raise the stock value of UA High but also the potential value of the students he teachers, especially the first years. Now it was wasted and the twins were being avoided like the plague by all the reporters that had heard him.

On the bright side, it was really easy for them to walk into the school after that. A quick glance around showed several other students from their class getting harassed. It wasn't much later that Aizawa showed up and told the press to shove off. Seeing the big automated gate block the pathway into the school when the same bitch reporter tried to force her way in made Kenichi grin.

Though that grin faded as he recalled that Tomura should be right outside that gate right about now. He'd meant to look for the psycho but had forgotten. Unfortunately, there wasn't much he would have been able to do anyway. There wasn't, currently, any warrant for Tomura's arrest. Despite knowing the man-child would be coming for All Might soon, there wasn't anything Kenichi could legally to about him, yet. If he attacked Tomura, Kenichi would be the one in trouble for assault. Not something he wanted to deal with. He would wait for Tomura to show up at USJ and deal with him then.

-----Line Break-----

Aizawa entered the classroom just as the bell rang thus arriving exactly on time and not a moment sooner or later. Yesterday he'd merely laid on the ground and slept since he had nothing to say to the students. Today was different. He pulled out a small stack of paper from his sleeping bag and set it on the podium, “I've reviewed your performance during the battle trial yesterday. Excluding the first one, most of you did rather well.”

He focused on Todoroki, “Having faith in your Quirk is fine, being arrogant about it is not. You should never automatically assume that you've won any confrontation. Secondly, I have your Quirk registry and I've yet to see you use the fire half of your Quirk.”

Just mentioning the other half of his Quirk caused Todoroki's normally flat look to turn sour but Aizawa ignored it and continued, “If you think you can half-ass it in my class and pass, you are mistaken. Start using the other half of your Quirk or I'll have you expelled. This is your first official warning.”

His focus moved to Midoriya, “Midoriya, though your battle was ended early due to extenuating circumstances, I did notice that you made no attempt to use your Quirk. Get control of your Quirk or you'll be expelled. This is your first official warning.”

Midoriya looked down at his desk in an odd mix of depression, shame, and determination. Aizawa focused on the next student, “Tokoyami, well done developing a new method of using your Quirk in the middle of an exercise.”

Lasly he focused on Kenichi with a seriously sour look on his face, “I also need to congratulate you too Kenichi for remembering that it was just a training exercise and helping a fellow student grow and improve. We're also aware of the advice you've been giving to the rest of the class.”

Kenichi smiled a little, not because of the supposed compliments that Aizawa gave him, but precisely since they weren't compliments. Aizawa said he needed to congratulate him, but didn't actually do it. Aizawa's statement on helping the other students was just that, a statement. Though the rest of the class, aside from Momo who had the same political training as himself, seemed to think that Kenichi was getting props for his efforts and gave him various looks of approval and the occasional thumbs up.

Aizawa ignored them all and handed the stack of papers to Ida, “These are my full analysis of your training yesterday. Take yours from the stack and pass it along.”

He returned to the podium as the papers made their way around the room, “Lastly, I'm sorry to spring this on you all but...”

He let his words hang in the air to build tension and Kenichi frowned in disapproval as everyone stiffened in fear of something ridiculous coming from him. This is what pissed Kenichi off, students should respect their teachers not be afraid of them.

After the moment passed Aizawa continued, “We need to pick a class president.”

Instantly almost all of the class was excited and wanted to become the class president. Kenichi never understood that particular desire. Sure it came with some respect, but it also came with a lot of work added onto it. He'd rather spend his time working on his skills. Speaking of, he should see about setting up a time to spar with the others in class. He wasn't sure how many of them, if any, knew how to throw a proper punch. As weird as it might sound, knowing how to do it right could prevent injuries like breaking a wrist from doing it wrong.

The class settled down a bit once Ida got the idea of voting for the president through. Kenichi did the obvious and voted for Momo. She'd excel at the position, was positive, and, most importantly, it would make her happy. Once the votes were counted, Kenichi frowned in annoyance and muttered, “Damn.”

The majority of students had either one or zero votes for them. The outliers, however...

Midoriya Izuku – 3

Yaoyorozu Momo – 3

Yaoyorozu Kenichi – 6

Ida looked at the tallied votes and looked a bit depressed that he hadn't received a single vote. Kenichi, meanwhile, was banging his head on his desk in annoyance. Once he gathered himself, Ida looked over the class, “Well, it looks like we'll need to do a second vote to determine the vice president between Yaoyorozu-san and Midoriya-san.”

Kenichi immediately butted in, “No we wont! I abdicate in favor of Momo! She can be president while Midoriya-san takes up the vice president position. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, but I really don't want to be the class president.”

Those who voted for him looked slightly disappointed, until they looked at Momo. She was practically vibrating in her seat with excitement and practically glowed with how brightly she was smiling. Soon enough she was in front of the class standing next to Midoriya. She was still bouncing a little in excitement as she addressed the class, “Thank you to those who voted for me! I'll do my best for the class. Please feel free to come to me with any concerns or ideas you have for the class.”

After speaking she gave a polite bow that was quickly followed by a clearly nervous Midoriya. Everyone politely clapped with Mina giving a small cheer. Once the excitement calmed down from the voting process, the rest of the day officially began.

AN

For those curious, Midoriya got the same votes as in canon, himself, Uraraka, and Ida. Momo got her canon votes of herself and Todoroki along with Kenichi's. Kenichi got Ashido, Kirishima, Sato, Jiro, Hagakure, and Tokoyami.

Comments

i love the idea of exploring hagakures quirk ive always been curious as to why authors didnt write more about her untapped potential

I need to pick up the anime again. I stopped watching after the overhaul yakuza ark because I had caught up and thought it would be better to wait for the episodes and binge them but I just forgot about it. Maybe I'll do the manga instead. Anyways great chapter as always.
