Soap bubbles

In the Middle Ages, it was a favorite pastime among the elite of society, who had money for soap and time. Quite a few paintings have quite adult men and women blew bubbles and this was not associated with children's fun and does not mean that the Alder King is a fan of fooling around and was an infantile ruler.
You should take his occupation as an allusion to the world and the transience of life, and not take is as the old king is engaged in "children's fun".
