👏 I agree so much with everything you said here. I feel like people forget that Dan didn't just kill Nathan's uncle. He also physically and emotionally abused Nathan for years. This is such a complicated situation and so many people act like Nathan or Haley or everyone else in this show should just trust Dan because he's done a few nice things. 20 years of built up mistrust is a big thing to overcome and it should be. Dan was an evil person and hasn't truly shown that he's changed. He literally killed his own brother so from Haley's perspective as someone who loved Keith and didn't see the inner workings of Dan and Keith's relationship... it isn't such a far leap that he would do something to his son. Also Haley saw for years his lack of empathy or care for his other son Lucas. And she knows for a fact that Dan has been manipulating the situation for some time now. I totally get why Haley is suspicious!

The thing is, Dan has literally given Haley no reason to believe him... Because the thing is, he WOULD hurt his own son. He's done so in the past multiple times. I don't believe he'd do THIS to him, but he has literally given Haley no reason to believe him. He literally manipulated himself into their home. He outright stated that he sensed a vulnerability in Nathan and used that as his way in. And that is SO fucked up. It's why I can NEVER see him as fully changed. He's still being manipulative towards his son and everyone else. He knew Nathan wouldn't have let him stay without that added pressure of Jamie already thinking he's staying, and he also knew Haley wouldn't be able to turn him away. So he went to her while Nathan was out of Town with a sob story that his Diner had burned down, WHEN HE IS THE ONE WHO BURNED IT DOWN, and got her to let him into the home. Then Jamie knew he was there and wanted him to stay and so by the time Nathan got back, he basically had no choice but to let him stay because otherwise he's the bad guy. (Which is something I've ALWAYS hated. It hurts me so much that Nathan not wanting his abusive Dad around him or his family makes him the bad guy in the situation because Jamie loves him. I'm not blaming Jamie, he's still a kid who doesn't quite understand the complexities of everything. But it just hurts...) And so Dan had his way in. And the fact that ALL of that was because he sensed a slight vulnerability in Nathan when he gave him the baseball and the picture of Lydia is HORRIBLE. That is exactly what Dan has always been like. And it's part of the reason I will never understand the whole "Redemption of Dan" thing... Because is he actually changed? No! He's just got this sob story of his family hating him now... Literally everything that people consider as him trying to change and redeem himself is just more of him being manipulative and not respecting the boundaries that people set... I could go on forever about this tbh... It's just my personal opinion. I'm not saying Dan has never done anything good. Of course he has. He saved Jamie twice, and he saved Haley. He revealed the truth about Renee. And he helped Quinn. I'm not gonna argue against that because those are facts, and I do believe he did it out of kindness and care, I DO. But he always kinda expected something in return. After saving Jamie, he walked into the house that was full of the people he hated with this smug look on his face as if he was trying to rub it in, and then he just wouldn't leave Nathan alone no matter how many times he asked him to. And then the second time, he DID get something out of it as Nathan and Haley let him spend time with Jamie. And then after Renee, he showed up with no warning. Then just when you think he's finally learned his lesson and is going to leave everyone alone, he senses a weakness in his son and comes back to exploit it... It just pisses me off. Paul does AMAZING and there are moments where I find myself feeling for Dan because of his amazing acting. But like, I just CAN'T actually feel bad for him because he did this all to himself and just can't seem to accept that... I'm sorry for the ramble. I don't wanna fight with anyone who has other opinions on Dan. This is just mine.
