You can be pretty much assured that the significant time jumps will end with this season. I think it is a crime that the actor who played Viserys did not get the Emmy or the Golden Globe for this performance. And from listening to what the actor had to say, he did play it as if Viserys was thinking of Aemma in his final moments when he said “my love.” The throne room scene and the dinner scene were probably my favorite scenes of this entire season. Both scenes were so emotional and the acting was phenomenal. I agree with you that Rhaenys probably changed her mind when she saw Viserys enter the throne room. The moments that they lingered on her face had me thinking she was reconsidering what she was going to say. And Daemon helping his brother to the throne and with his crown was so beautiful. I really think they have done a great job of proving that Daemon was never after the crown as much as he was after his brothers love and respect. I think you are the only person that I have heard express the opinion that I had when seeing Jace and Helaena dancing together. Everything would have been better off if they had gone with Jace marrying Helaena. Viserys watching them dance felt like a scene of what could have been. Of course, then we wouldn’t have had the story that we are going to have. I feel like Vaemond showed that it really wasn’t about the bloodline after all once Rhaenys announced the betrothal between Rhaena and Lucerys. Because at that point there would have been true Velaryon blood continuing on into the future of their house.

I guess I’m in the minority cuz people who reacted to this show never bring up how Daemon named his first born Baela after her grandfather Daemons dad Baelon. Viserys named his son Baelon after his and Daemons father so I think Daemon wanted his fathers named to be used just like Viserys. It’s why to me I think there is more to the story Otto said about Daemon being happy Baelon died I don’t believe that Viserys was to angry to hear the entire story at that moment Daemon was solidified in his hatred for Otto also remember people think Otto had something to do with the shocking death of Baelon who was the Hand to Jaehaerys Targaryen and heir after his brother died who became hand right after Otto. If only Viserys was as smart as Daemon he would have saw that Otto is an ain’t ISH person.

One of the best episodes in GOT. Masterpiece episode.

I think this is one of the best videos I've ever seen from you, Thank you.

This was the episode that elevated the show from really good to great for me, and had me consider it the equal of Game of Thrones in terms of drama, characterisation and production. The entire presentation of Viserys' entrance to the throne room is pitch perfect, and Daemon finally acknowledging his brother's strength is an incredible moment that has been so well-earned over the past eight episodes. Loving your reaction to this show and how in tune you are with the themes, subtext and motivations of characters. Also, Aemond is perfect.

Alicent heard what she wanted to hear. And for years she’d been telling Aegon to prepare to be king. She was already planning it even if it was subconsciously. She just needed a final push to try and justify her actions to herself.

this is where the show picked up for me and got me excited for next season 💜

Aemond is an interesting character. He for sure was looking admiring of Daemon and I think Dameon sees himself in him. They are both second sons who ended up stronger in a lot of ways than their first born brothers. Aemond is an anagram for Daemon. If you move the D to the end of the name then you get Aemond. This implies that they are different sides of the same coin. They are similar but they fight for opposite sides.

Visery's love for his daughter and Daemon is so beautifully shown. "He's not walking to the throne, he's walking to her" - Episode 8, Director Geeta Patel

I think we were robbed abit, with the 6 year jump. Because we most likely missed Daemon & Rhaenyra's best/happiest/Viper free, first 6 years of marriage & them having their first full blooded Targaryen baby Aegon and then cute little Viserys. Daemyra are such a power couple, love how protective Daemon is with Rhaenyra & all their kids, can see Daemon has been a good step father and earned the kids respect at least. So great how Daemon didn't have to say a word to Aemond. I really see this episode how great of a mother Rhaenyra has been with all her boys & even her step daughter Rhaena. Glad they all got to grow up together & I'm sure Baela visited too, since being her grandmothers ward. I wouldn't say Jace is compensating, he's just a good honourable son, with good head on his shoulders, who yes is taking his position seriously. Rhaenyra was born to be a mother, u see the unconditional love in her eyes & how much she adores her children. The parenting difference is like day & night, Allicent has done what she swore she wouldn't do, like Visery protecting Rhaenyra with her boys and now Allicent is covering for something far worse for Aegon & herself. Such a shame she couldn't just make peace during Rhaenyra's first olive branch, then poor sweet Helaena wouldn't be stuck with her rapist, neglectful, brother, as her husband & father of her children. I do sense a better and perhaps romantic bond between Aemond & Helaena though. Aemond unlike Aegon, truly cares & respects Helaena, & was more than willing to be bethrothed to her instead. Vaemond as it turns out was all about ambition after all, since he kept arguing after Rhaenys solved his "issue". Agreeing to Rhaenyra's proposal will keep Driftmark in the Velaryons bloodline & name. Jace being the next heir to the throne means he will take the Targaryen last name after being crowned. So Corlys would be very happy by that offer but the Velaryon name wouldn't take throne but the blood would be.

Also sort of unrelated to this particular ep but I wanted to share some thoughts about this Targaryen ‘prophecy’ passed around in this season about the Long Night- not sure everyone will agree but y’all let me know what you think… I am clearly NOT A FAN of that concept- ok I agree callbacks are nice, and they could have addressed it that one time and left it at that…But to keep bringing that up, and even making it essential to the plot as Rhaenyra feels some obligation to sit the Throne—I really think it’s sort of a spit in the face and here’s why. Season 8 was ‘not all that’, there can be divergence of opinion but ultimately the way it closed out things really left most fans perplexed- even if someone enjoyed it I am sure they would agree it was rushed and could have used a very different ending… This spin-off imo is amazing and goes back to formula, nullifying any concern or mistakes past- and this prophecy thing is taking me right back to season 8 lol And retroactively addressing a prophecy that is supposed to have hudge importance and magnitude in the furture, in the way where ‘one born of my blood to fulfill this prophecy and save the realm from the cold night, The Prince that was Promised- all this grand prophecy and promises- when you know that ultimately Jon will end up on the sidelines screaming at a zombie Dragon while his teenage sister ‘a Stark’ will kill the nigh king (ending the long night that lasted a day and a single night for one battle at Winterfell- For me that’s just rubbing salt to the wound, we don’t need that lmao…You don’t need to do that when we came out of season 8 essentially being told that prophecies etc are just meaningless and don’t matter one bit. You could be the last member of a Valaryan dynasty and birth three dragons with blood magic and conquer the world; but could just as well just become batshit crazy in a few hard days and die as a tyrant. You could be a promised child and give all the signs of fulfilling a grand purpose to save the world, as Azhor Ahai but in the end achieve none of that yourself and fail if not for the pure fortunate accident of your sister doing what you couldn’t and in the end lose everything and be sent back to where you started in exhile. And maybe it’s more problems with season 8 than this show but still I don’t understand how they would not know that this might open old wounds. To me it’s kind of like adding assault to injury…

There's just something about the fact that Vaemond's body hit the floor a literally 5 secs after he insulted Rhae hahahaha And in this ep you just gotta admire the great united power couple that Daemon and Rhaenyra make. The fact that Daemon is there defending her honor and her interests but never overextends and never tries to assert himself over her or speak for her. Amazing

I could keep going on and on about how incredible this episode is...THis truly defines the show for me and I can safely say nothing had such an emotional impact on me after just 8 episodes! For that you gotta thank the time jumps and the fact we are seeing a generational story play out in front of us in a way that let's us see the whole development of these people's lives. Visery's is beautiful and tragic, he never looked as brave as when he was giving his dying strength for his daughter and to see that his family unites. This was HIS TEST- he told his hand in ep 5 he wish he had been tested, and this was it. And again he never looked as brave as now in his dying days. These whole familial moments truly embody ASOIAF for me, because the show it's not at it's heart about the Dragons and the fights etc etc...It's part of GOT and HOTD it's what we dress these stories into, but why they matter and why we care is because of the relatable moments in which we see familial ties.

My absolute favourite episode in all of Game of Thrones. Viserys and Daemon break my heart in this episode. I have yet to see a reactor that wasn't totally moved by the moment between the two brothers. That scene says so much. Viserys at his weakest, shows true strength for his beloved daughter. And Daemon truly respects that. You can see the admiration for his brother all over his face. Viserys finally accepts Daemon's help, while he rejects that of others. It's very ironic. Everyone has always said that Daemon wants the throne, but at the moment when Viserys is about to break, it is Daemon who helps him onto the throne and crowns him. An incredibly powerful and beautiful scene. I love Daemon in this episode. We see so many sides of him, and Matt plays each of them perfectly. At the end, when the kids are fighting, all Daemon has to do is lift his finger and step into the middle, and everyone freezes in place. His presence is so commanding. And the scene with Vaemond is simply frightening. How quickly Daemon can go from 0 to 100 is scary. Something like that will certainly not happen again. Daemon's message was loud and clear. And yes, the "no need" was hilarious. It was just another Tuesday for Daemon.

I can go both ways on the succession for Driftmark. Luke isn't blood but he was chosen by Laenor as a son and by Corlys, who is the lord and leader of house Velaryon, as a grandson. Both know he isn't blood, and they don't care. He has no experience, but he can learn a great deal and get help from Vaemond if he just honors the choice of his brother and lord. Add the marriage and there will still be Velaryon blood ruling Driftmark. As for the iron throne, technically the bloodline is still pure. The rightful heir is Rhaenyra Targaryen who is a trueborn child from the king and his chosen heir. So, when he dies it truly doesn't matter that he has other children. It will only matter after Rhaenyra dies. Her first 3 kids are named Velaryon but will have to change it to Targaryen when they ascend. So, they will have her blood and her name. Plus, she will have 3 full blood trueborn Targaryen kids with Daemon. Even if it's right or wrong the king willed it so anything anybody does to prevent it is treason and death. If Alicent really believes that Viserys said he wants Aegon to be king, she truly is an idiot. First off, the man is damn near dead. Second, he is constantly high on milk of the poppy and has a clouded mind. Anybody with common sense would know that the mumbling of that man would be 95% nonsense. Third, he said stuff like "do you remember" and "earlier" so if she didn't talk to him earlier the entire conversation is irrelevant and Alicent would know that. Forth, he has told the entire realm that Rhaenyra is heir, threatened to cut out tongues, etc. for 20 years. He never mentioned any of his other kids in connection to the throne. So, in my opinion any death and violence that comes after will be on Alicent and her team.

The actor who plays the Aemond is in another show called The Last Kingdom. Viking show that is absolutely brilliant, great characters, brilliant plot and if you were looking for another show to react to after HOTD, this would be my choice

Too many epic scenes for just one episode: Viserys walking to the throne, Daemon daring Vaemond to say it, Aemond showing he is not to be messed with by his nephews, Viserys beautiful speech to his family and finally Daemon staring Aemond out of doing or saying anything else to his wife's kids

Razzer95

Daemon- He can keep his tongue 😎 Also this is the last major time jump just so u know

My favorite episode! Hope you're feeling better.
